Study finds drivers spending up to a fifth of pre-tax income on running a car as lack of infrastructure deters people from cycling

The report, produced by the cycle industry campaign group Bike Is Best, found that about three-quarters of drivers think they will always own a car, while just under half, 47%, believe they have no alternative.

Was interested in comments though! One poster didn't like cyclists on badly set up bikes. Wearing headphones not liked either.
Is any other form of transport criticised in the same style critical way? "I ran the guy off the road cause his saddle was too low." : -)

Hilarious comments on a facebook thread about gas engineer in London who can't work without his van - obviously not seen video of gas engineer in Hammersmith doing 90+% of his work by bike & 2-3 times more gas safety checks per day by bike than he did with a van

An estimated 26,000 drivers per day coming in to Edinburgh will be hit when LEZ starts in June - this is exactly the 'shock' change that can kick start increased use of bus, coach, train & cycling. I've seen 1000% increase in bikes used in 2 months when London rail services were interrupted for major works, and then forced the provision of increased cycle parking plus proper cycle routes to deal with the growth in cyclist numbers
