There is a dude 30 miles back who is catching up but I think our number 17 will keep him at bay.

"That's odd, they've gone off route".

That is correct, they cycled a lot of it together and crossed together.

1600km in less than six days. Chapeau

I also second that conclusion and point out Bill had more battery power left at the end than The Fox so Bill second, though the Fox did wait at Perth for Bill.

Team behind it have a real quality and passion. They're keen that it stays not too large. Only 9 did the 'short' 400 mile race. Obviously Bill would barely be warmed up by that point and used the extra 600 miles to search out sustenance in places like the Blairgowrie Coop!

How tough is the TA? Today's positions put @Bill's achievement in context. Really hope those still on the road can finish. No cut off AFAIK although I would allow 15 days to do this route!

Awwwww! You guys! Thanks so much!
It definitely helped me to know a lot of the roads thanks to our little cal rides and various Audaxes (Tour of The Borders and Galloway, the North Coast Classic and the Snow Roads).

The section between Livingston and Gourock was so annoyingly slow. So many narrow roads with poor surface and steep ups and downs. I was so glad when we crossed to Dunoon and there was a lot less choice of roads so it meant they were on more major roads.

Coming over Glenshee on Friday was so, so wet. My ears filled up with water! But I was warm throughout the ride with all my overshoes, leg warmers, arm warmers, winter (sort of) waterproof gloves (stolen goat) and a Galibier packable rain jacket.

    Some cracking photos are here:

Part of the reason I went to ride it was to get sweet cool photos!

Ah, and Andrew and I rarely cycled together. We did maybe 100k side by side (no drafting apart form pulling in for a car) but otherwise we didn't even see one another on the road as we were initially about 3-5min apart but later more like 30-60min apart. I just couldn't go any faster.

Andrew is an Audaxer from Northumberland so we were doing things in a similar way and ended up Audaxing it "together but apart" from Dunoon onwards. The organisers had no problem with that at all.

Much less strict that the TransContinental Race!

    WELL DONE

No doubt you’ll add a few more details when you’ve had a proper rest!

@Bill - talking to the Talbar guys they really have a nice ethos on this. It's a ride they document to enhance the off the scale craziness of it. Not interested in being sponsored by some big company but just doing it their way and letting it stay as a thing for those in the know. (Sort of super Audax blended with survival on a bike with ferries as a factor).

Jan Måøy will be next in around 4pm.

Two other riders on way south to arrive maybe tomorrow?

Final pair came in today after 8 days, 5 hours and 46 minutes. A remarkable result I think as would be hard doing more nights self supported. Well done them too and the others - encouraged no doubt by the Talbar management that just want people hit their own goals (but also when they might have to quit due to injury).
Check #transalbarace2023 on Insta for some great images of the event or on their website blog.

Looking forward to @Bill's book on the event ;-)
