Or will Alba save the day for ScotGov?

Do we need another Scottish parliamentary election thread?

Ash Regan in the driving seat. 'Defender of women's rights' etc. She will have her list prepared and agreed with AS.
Not all bad though. Turns out that progressive taxation doesn't deter people from coming here. Not sure where Alba stand on that.

@LaidBack aye that'll be the test for me. An SNP dependent on/catering to the likes of Regan isn't one I'm interested in voting for, which isn't a great feeling tbh since it means I'm politically homeless again at UK elections(the Greens remain a protest vote in this seat). Never missed a vote in my life, viewed it as a duty, but I might just not bother for WM this time.
It also seems a dumb move from a tactical perspective - has nobody at SNP HQ noticed what trying to pander to the UKIP/Reform/gammon axis has done to the Tories?

I think the Greens should be glad they are not currently in coalition.
I can understand why they are annoyed about the way the agreement ended.
Not a good agreement if it can be axed without notice.
But I think they should have been less outraged (in public).
Not clear which SNP leader they would be willing to work with.
Their best option would be to abstain in FM confidence vote - but they may feel unwilling/unable to do that U turn.
If AR decides to vote with the Tories (and says so in advance) that ought to make the Greens think…
Of course AR could decide to decide when the vote is taken. But then she might get less attention…
As for Lab, do they really want an SG election this year??
The Tories would be wise to abstain on the ‘confidence in SG’ motion, but will probably feel unable to.
Politics and sense seldom mesh well.

If you are thinking of not voting because you don't like the front runners then surely a protest vote is exactly what you are looking for?

@acsimpson I support among other things indy and trans rights, in my seat Labour and the SNP are competitive(but the results are usually reasonably decisive), so previously I could express my political view with a reasonable chance of it having some meaning and impact despite the UK's backwards and undemocratic election system. The fact my vote would be reduced to an ineffectual protest is exactly why I'm considering not bothering.
At Holyrood I know I'm always having at least *some* impact on the outcome, but at WM bouts unless you've got the media on side to signal boost as the Interchangable Gammon Party always does when the Tories stray too close to centrism why bother with protest votes? Nobody takes any notice of them.

Whether or not there is an election for Holyrood ’soon’, there will be one in 2026.
Suspect more people in Scotland like the idea of fixed term Parliaments than the Westminster system.
Whether that will affect the way they vote is a question that might get asked if an ‘interim’ election becomes a thing.

Former Sturgeon advisor Liz Lloyd reckoned he was done, and would be gone this week even if he won the no confidence vote. She said the party has already moved on from him, on Times radio yesterday.

The newspaper headlines the last couple of days have been really quite unpleasant.
Well, even more unpleasant than their usual fare.
