    Interesting read.

Mix of ‘there is no money is an understatement’ and ‘things will have to be done differently’.

It will be interesting to see which changes are visible by the next election and who will get more of the blame - current Administration or SG.

    Also which “policies”/actions will be abandoned/watered down/delayed.

‘Obviously’ (to ‘us’) there needs to traffic reduction for many reasons including reducing road damage.

To raise money there needs some sort of road pricing and WPL

    BUT…

It could be another two years before Edinburgh’s visitor levy – the first in the UK – is introduced ... [to plug £20m - £30m of the £110m funding gap] ...

The public are set to be consulted on detailed plans for the tourist tax later this year

    Why?

Why do they need to have a consultation and wait two years? What is there to consult on? For goodness sake, just get on and do it - just like every other city in the world has already done

@neddie - for once this isn't down to the Council. The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act 2024 requires the Council to run a consultation on the proposed scheme. The Act also imposes an 18-month "implementation period" before a levy can actually be raised. In effect, Edinburgh are actually racing out of the blocks and will have the scheme in place as quickly as the law will allow.

The Scottish Government want to put as much distance between themselves and any levy as possible. All down to an irrational fear of being seen as "anti-business".
