    From bluesky:

Ferry Road Path CLOSED to pedestrians and cyclists from today to 16 January for installation of a security fence at Leonardo. TTRO closure order was signed on Wednesday with the below diversion: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/38417/temp-25-148

Crappy diversion. Original poster suggests quiet route 20 better alternative and I would agree with that.

I am aware that most cyclists do what they can to avoid Crewe Toll Roundabout as drivers can be unbelievably reckless and impatient. I had to teach my two kids to walk to school and cross the roundabout at Telford Road and again on Crewe Road South. I literally trained them not to look at the green man but to look into the eyes of the drivers approaching to see if they have noticed the pedestrian crossings. I know I am not alone either and I have raised this multiple times as ClIr and previously as Community ClIr.

From Bluesky... GOOD NEWS! According to my councillor, the path should reopening tomorrow and officers will explore more sensible options

Thanks to Spokes and my colleague ClIr Vicky Nicolson for acting promptly. The work planned will go ahead in due course - we will be seeking assurance that arrangements are made that minimise inconvenience to path users. .

The work folk have eaten quite a bit into the path making it's pretty tricky to navigate.

The chap in front of me stopped and had a word with one of the workmen.

    What sort of word…

    Better than before, but…

Hope Leonardo/contractors are paying a suitable rent!

50cm isn't much margin between the tarmac and the new fence. It will definately make the path feel more closed in, as well as impinging on handlebar leeway

There's quite a bit of extra grass space at various places along that stretch so laying a temporary path with geogrid or other ground protection wouldn't exactly be difficult. The will seems to be lacking though. Even with a temporary path there would still be some pinch points sure but the current setup is extracting the urine.

    Perhaps contractors having a sulk?

Yesterday evening someone on BlueSky spotted an excavator ripping out brambles beside the slope down to Arneill Drive, then this morning there was an NWH concrete truck there to pour some concrete onto the same spot. This is on the spine of the wee ridge protruding from the embankment to the north, between Arneill Drive and the football pitches, on the other side of the path from Leonardo, but the NWH employee who lumbered over to ask what my problem was (stylistically quite distinct from simply walking over and asking if he could help) eventually appeared to confirm that his work was Leonardo-connected, and wasn't just doing regular council bramble-concreting work.

Leonardo are not going to do anything for nature or cyclists on this route. This is a firm that has contributed to thousands of civilian deaths and making Gaza resemble the aftermath of an earthquake. :-(

Yeah, it turns out the trailer could have been put on the opposite verge all along. I took a video yesterday morning but haven't done anything with it yet as it's all mostly passable, though the new area of marshland between the Arneil Drive slope and the football pitches isn't on the plans.
