    It is expected that disruption will continue into at least the beginning of the festival season in August. Millions of visitors are expected to flood the city centre next month

    The local authority previously announced that the avenue would be off-limits to vehicular traffic between Hanover Street and Frederick Street from July 30 to September 1.

    However, The Herald understands that the pedestrian and cycle-only zone is now not expected to go ahead as planned, at least for the first part of August.

    Now, in a letter to First Minister John Swinney, Edinburgh North Eastern and Leith MSP Ben Macpherson called on the Scottish Government to provide “additional assistance” to the organisations involved in dealing with the aftermath of the fire.
