Our minimum viable is 18; we have 12 currently, with an ideal of 25.

Can you add a ‘range of jobs’ description

I know people who are ‘reluctant’ as ‘haven’t done it before’

Being a Marshal at POP is super simple. You just have to be a visible presence on the day, helping keep people moving. We give loads of instruction on the day to explain what you need to do and how you need to do it. We keep in touch via our phones because they're more reliable than walkie-talkies. This means that there's no barrier to being able to join in and ask questions if you ever have any concerns. The Head Marshal on the day and the Deputy Head Marshal will be available to take calls and Signal (app) messages and be able to support any issues.

We'll have Marshals dotted about the whole route and some cycling with the actual protest as well. These Marshals will be aiming to just keep people moving, keep people off the pavements, and in the case of an emergency just shout out and help people understand that they need to move to the side or clear the area. It's a fun simple job really supporting the campaign.

I have been a marshal at every previous PoP. Unfortunately I can't make it this time, but I would encourage anyone thinking about it to just give it a go. PoP is a joyous occasion and pretty much every attendee is super friendly. You are really there as a reassuring presence, to conduct a bit of light crowd control, and to act as eyes and ears for the professionals (police, council, ambulance etc).

Honestly, do it - you will enjoy it and get to feel all worthy into the bargain.

Any news RE: the feeder rides meeting points/times?
I think I filled in the marshalling form but didn't get any acknowledgement so not sure if I'm in the headcount or not.

@mcairney sorry for the silence, absolute madness and spinning plates o'er here.

Got you on the list for sure, and Porty Feeder ride will be glad to have you - details are over here though they haven't fully confirmed route in yet for me to get a route map onto the site.

We have 17 marshals currently, which Alex has assured me is fine - but the more the merrier so do fill in the form if you fancy it.

Thanks for the update! I can imagine the logistics of this are pretty complex and time-consuming.

    “pretty complex and time-consuming”

    And probably sleep consuming

I get the impression it’s essentially under control

There is a long legacy of ‘what works’ also continuity of people liaising with ‘local officials’ - successfully

PoP is established (in a good way)

It doesnt matter how many people turn up

LOTS will, many have to be elsewhere on the day.

Next year is a 99% certainty

I’m sure there will be attempts to ‘start organising sooner’ and opportunities to get involved

I have never been in the ‘core group’, but i know there are lots of other people doing simple, useful, things

PoP is a gathering with a purpose

I’ve said many times that it HAS made a difference - and will continue to do so

    It’s important

It’s different from Spokes and InfraSisters and Critical Mass etc etc, but not ‘in competition’

Common/ovetlapping interests - better conditions for those who walk and cycle and importantly for those who want to

Less car dominance, less ‘driving entitlement’

‘We’ know the arguments, so do most politicians

SG and CEC have many of the right policies

But ‘progress’ is held back by timidity

Due to attrition and some uncontactable volunteers, we're short of 3-4 marshals for PoP on Saturday 30th. If you're seeing this and can help out - even relunctantly - please install Signal on your phone and fill out https://cloud.pedalonparliament.org/apps/forms/s/RnfgPeGSNewgJ4aRW3GKkYem

I have volunteered - it's been a few years since my last Pop but it will be nice if I see a few familiar faces.
