I prefer to think of it as putting the rest of the world's clocks back.

If god had meant us to have central European time he would have made us Swiss.

I am unsure if my son would believe it was time for school if it was still dark !!

For a lot of the year it would make no difference to my morning commute - i.e. it would still be dark as I leave at 6, 6.15.

There will be a lot of people (not just here, but northern england etc) who would not be for this idea due to the dark mornings.

However I read an article last year which put the arguments for it in a pretty compelling way.

Its a tricky and emotive one, but the realist in me says that (given we are part of the union) if the majority of england and wales voted yes, I presume it would be carried fairly comfortably ?

If it's such a good idea, how come the Central Europeans haven't put their clocks forward already?

    - and some people act as though their daylight is being 'stolen'.

And some people seem to believe it really would be!

    Yep, it does seem incongruous.

Plus, there are lots of odd timezones around the world - I had a mate who worked in india for a while, and I am sure he was something like 4.5 hours ahead, so why we get our knickers in a twist is beyond me !

I have always like that 'put your watch ahead' bit of travelling to europe - it always makes it more exotic.

I grew up being 3.5 behind GMT, which meant that we were always a half hour (plus a few hours) ahead of anywhere else in the country, and we always got the news etc on the half-hour instead of the hour. Okay except for the jokes: 'the world ends at midnight,...12.30 in Newfoundland.'

There's no reason why Scotland or Northern Ireland need to have the same time zone as England or Wales. I can see the signs at the border....
