I wonder why we can't just build a bridge over the south suburban railway - effectively linking South Meadow Place with Langton Road.

That way, without any hassle about parking bays and pinch points and what have you, we'd have a fast direct link between the Kings Buildings and Meadows...

Didn't they consider this, but it would cost gazillions?

"I wonder why we can't just build a bridge over the south suburban railway"

CEC has actually looked at this (can't remember if this was the exact place) but decided it was too expensive (£500k or more).

So we could only have a thousand such bridges instead of a tram line running from not-quite-the-airport to not-quite-the-city-centre?

Yes, I can see their point.

CEC would rather spend money on producing reports about how they are going to increase the level of cycling in Edinburgh, than spend the money on actual infrastructure...

or am I being to cynical?

    "am I being to cynical?"

    Now there's a question.

There is a longstanding disconnect between good ideas, reports and resources.

    It's not just CEC.

It's politics (party and other), inertia, optimisms, assumptions, dogmas, vested interests etc.

Bridge goes rusty - better replace it.

Exercise, 'prevention rather cure' - 'yes, but we've "got" to build more hospitals, employ more doctors' etc. - 'it's what the voters want' etc.

Edinburgh: £500k bridge for cyclist/pedestrians too expensive
Denbighshire: £4.3m bridge for cyclist/pedestrians to go ahead?

    Spot the difference...
