But for the bike I would have struggled to recognise the same kaputters from the lidded lycra lad I have spotted around the Gyle.
Think the weight and chafing of wet denim has been alluded to already but I was with my pal Big Davie Whyte in cheap outdoors shop in Renfield St in Glasgow shortly before we did Route 75 into a non-prevailing wind. BDW eschews lycra or any actual kit that would be of help on a long cycle/walk in favour of jeans and large cotton parkas [all of which ended up soaking wet weighing a ton in one of my panniers, he also eschews panniers and tools to get back wheel off]. The man in the outdoors shop actually said that on the hills DENIM KILLS. I then sent BDW a link for a lycra/denim pair of shorts but he declined the offer.
