I have been spending some time down in Oswestry with family recently. This is an area with wonderful cycling country so early in the mornings I have been out and about exploring the lanes of my youth. This am was the first time on a Monday. The traffic in this rural area was as bad as a city. One the main roads, the A5 was impossible to cross. Quite different from my time. Of course roads gave been improved encouraging long distance commuters. An irony was the many signs protesting some pylons that are planned.

Sounds like rural Stirlingshire. People only perceive external forces as a threat, and are oblivious to what they themselves are doing!

Just sold a bike to someone in Selattyn. Not many recliners or any bikes down there he says. He's been cycling for years (on a Challenge Hurricane) so knows the score. They really love their cars it seems.

I did see a few bikes in the country on the sunday before the rain came in.

This is seriously nice cycling territory though - well recommended for a holiday. You have the choice between the (moderately) flat lands of the plain, the steep hills along the border, lovely valley routes into Wales and sweeping passes.
