Anyone note the milestones of their bikes? My new bike has just passed its first 1000, and I gave it a wee pat on the headset.

I tend not to, not knowing exactly what it is that my current odometer is displaying, after I had to make a guess at what I'd done so far this year when I lost one computer, which in turn had to have a guess inputted into it when the previous one went through the washing machine in the pocket of my shorts, rendering the buttons non-operational and the case unopenable, preventing the buttons being pressed from the inside. I don't think the (previous again) computer I used with my old bike was reset when it moved to the new bike, so even if I'd retained measurements since I still don't know what it would be showing.

I noted yesterday on the speedo I use on my touring, audax and (until recent purchase of fancy new cadenceputer) road bikes that it has crept past 5000 miles without me noticing. I remember it being near 4000 some months back and then missed it ticking over.

I ticked over to 1000 on the X-Border 100 last year (it was a replacement computer, I had lost the previous one in a bin in a fit of over-zealous house cleaning).

I'll have to wait a month or so to get it near 6000. Then I can maybe work out how far its gone in a year. Although that won't include all the miles on the singlespeed or all the miles when I've forgot to plug the computer in.

Likewise here with the true accuracy thing but Ive just clicked over 1600km, i.e. a thousand miles. Also means Ive done 600km already this month!

    That's good going ruggtomcat.

One way of upping the mileage is to use a overly sensitive wireless compu, then sit in one of those spots which sets it off. I have managed to reach more than 100 mph in that way.

My next "birthdays" will be the 1k mark as both the commuter and the road bike got refurbed/replaced over the winter, from January the road bike is on 758 miles and the tourer/commuter is on 851 miles (400 of which was last week!).
Need to get out on another Audax soon and keep racking up the miles :)

My computer I got earlier this year is about to tick over the 1K mark. Was thinking of bringing some party poppers to set off wherever it did.

Is this likely to get me detained without charge for a long period.

Probably only if it happens on your way past the parliament. I spotted some youths playing with some devil bangers on Restalrig Road at the weekend, the only occurrence in which Leith Gala Day impinged upon me this year.

Knowing the sheer predictability of my routes it will probably be outside the zoo.

I've just gone over 1500miles for the year, looks like I'm not going to get my target of 4000miles. :(
My Cervelo should be coming up to its 10,000 mile birthday round about October time if my predictions are correct...

A 10,000 mile anniversary is a good one - and partly how I managed to justify the purchase of another bike to my wife and family. 10000 miles seems an awful lot for a bike to most people.

June is looking very dismal for me as I've had three weeks off now with crapped out knees... 775 miles in May, about 150 so far this month (and I'm about to go on holiday for a fortnight).

July is going to have to be exceptional to get things back on track for PBP.

Two years today I got my Fisher (racer) I don't know how many miles its done since the speedo went under the wheels of a number 22 about three weeks after I got it, never had the heart to replace it. Its worth noting that the only original part bar the frame is the head set.

Two years tomorrow would be when i (re)started commuting by bike.

Completely arbitary number, but my odo finally got to:

Since mid feb, that's okay. Hopefully at least double by year end. Not at the zoo, quiet pootle down leith walk. Had to slam on the anchors to get posterity pic :)

P.S. Don't look at the rusty stem. Would a bit of sanding and enamel paint help this?

We have to look at it to know if sanding and enamel paint might help it; if you get rid of all the rust it ought to stop further decay.

Well the LHT finally passed the 1,000 mile mark this morning. I think that justifies a coffee and bun tomorrow morning at PY B-)
Though if the weather is as nice as today I may take the roadbike/racer and disguise myself as a roadie type for a change!

I don't use my gps enough to clock up the miles plus I reset it every trip as it only has one trip clock and not two like my old cycle computer.

Apropros of this thread, I've only cycled about 1500 miles so far this year. The next birthday will probably be my little black recumbent hitting 4000.

I know what you mean, but in many (non-cycling enthusiast) circles that would seem an outrageous statement :-)

New bike had its second* birthday today just in time for cake in Lauder.
In the run up it was well treated with a pan flat cycle by the canal from Chirk to Llangollen.

    * thousand mile.
