Riding back from Kirkliston TT tonight, an unfortunate cyclist had come off his bike at Craigiehall where there is the entrance to the Army complex. He was being well attended by personnel from the base and was on the ground under a blanket but also seemed to be talking - other cyclists had stopped and the Army were directing traffic around the stopped cars so we moved on. An ambulance was about a minute away.

I hope he will be OK - I know appearances can be deceiving but it didn't look like serious injury, so hope that's right.

Now why does this not surprise me. A great many of the speeding motorists around this area come from the army base, they are young lads with money to burn on overpowered cars. I have had a few hairy moments myself just at this point. Yes, let us hope it was not serious and the person makes a full recovery.

I saw this to, around the same time. I was heading in the Kirliston direction and saw lots of small groups of riders heading the opp way, after I passed the main group on the A90 Bridge where they were heading for Cramond Brig. Hope the cyclist innjured (I saw multiple people on the ground), are not too badly injured and make a full recovery soon.

@Liz, you'll have to take my word for it, but the young lassies with money to burn on overpowered cars are just as bad! Also IF it was a car/bike collision and IF a serviceperson was involved you can rest assured the service police wont hesitate to hammer them for it, and the military generally hand out far more severe punishments than civvy courts.

Of course there is always the risk that it was a small peleton who managed to all hit each other and go down and a young lad in an overpowered car just happened to stop to help?

We should always be careful of generalising, in case we suddenly find ourselves all riding on the pavement and jumping red lights ;-)

(all said in a jovial manner and intending no offence!)

    That's what we like.

From being there it wasn't obvious how this accident could have happened, and as Smudge says it is perfectly possible that the cyclists came down themselves or because of the other cyclists (2 or 3) they were with. Did not see any evidence of there having been a major collision on the car that was stopped.

@Smudge, yes...I agree young women drivers in overpowered cars are just as bad, and there are plenty of them too.
