Probably doesn't include bike shops (yet) but will increasingly affect 'the high street' and reduce choice if/when people 'shop local'.

But, as always, things change! Princes Street wasn't designed to have shops and in many places corner shops have reverted to houses.

And who knew we needed so many cafés??

More local shops please! not chains.

(then again, I must admit to a little bit of happiness of idea of a Wagamama opening. We used to go to the original many years ago, when it regularly had queues up the stairs to the street. somehow can't quite believe it will be as good as I remember...)

I find it hard to mourn a lot of the shops that have been "lost". Victims of their own rubbishness a la Woolworths. I hear Thorntons might be next. I find it hard to care, if you base your business model around overpriced crap chocolate masquerading as gourmet chocolate, you shouldn't be surprised if you hit hard times during a recession.
