The original video is here, and it's not particularly pleasant viewing. This is a fellow human being, acting like an animal.

Don't understand why they can't identify the passenger/assailant. can't they threaten the owner with contempt if he won't say who was driving? and surely the driver must know who the passenger was?

The Met is busy with other things...

  5. The Met's line is that they spoke to the owner who said he doesn't know who was driving at the time as, conveniently, his car had been taken without his consent. Remarkably it was dropped back off at his house unscathed and the keys left... You would think, at the very least, the police would therefore want to find who the people in the video were because not only have they committed an assault, but also TWOCing.

But no. The owner gave them that story (presumably the police saw the video and made sure that no-one in it looked like the owner), they've accepted it, case marked as not proceeding any further.

As has been queried elsewhere, what are the odds on the owner being polis, or a pal of the polis?

Apparently, according to the update I saw, the case is subject to an "ongoing investigation" by the local CID.

Hopefully that means they've got someone in mind and things will happen... I shall watch and wait with interest. Hopefully if it gets to court they'll get a judge who cycles!

Funny how the Police always very quickly find and charge any cyclist who assaults a driver, despite cyclists not having a great big, easily traceable licence plate number but whenever a driver (or passenger) assaults a cyclist somehow they can't do anything about it.

At least all this publicity will force them to pretend they are doing something.

It's hilarious that the BBC have blurred the registration in the identification video, and not provided a link to the original...

Looks like the Police have been forced to arrest the thug after he walked into the station himself.

Will be interested to hear what happens next.

    He'll presumably accept a caution?

Ironic that he handed himself in when the police were completely uninterested!

I trust most of the cyclists in the UK will write to their mp's to complain should he get a slap on the wrist...

  13. And that he'll also get done for theft since the owner didn't know where the car was...

Yes, I suspect they won't bother to pursue that angle but it would be nice if they did. It would only be worth it though if the owner actually gave a statement that the car was taken without consent - because obviously the perp just needs to say he did have permission. Presumably the owner giving a false statement would be perjury or something however?

I think it will end with a whimper as he'll be offered a caution.
