UK Government has a new epetitions forum (which in volume terms all seems to be about showing F1 on the BBC) but this petition relates to cycling; http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/1271

Can anyone tell me what it is supposed to mean?

  2. It's certainly strange.

"In order to encourage cycling we need to have less rules!" basically...

  3. "Please, review the highway code in relation to cyclists they are too long and you cannot possibly adhere to all of them, there are so many...We need to encourage more cycling and l feel this would help so that it is clear to cyclists and other users the rules and therefore reduce aggression."

There's one on h****ts too, which is so badly worded it makes it look like children can have motorbikes as long as they have a h****t on.

  5. "The Government to debate passing a law imposing strict liability upon motor vehicle drivers when they injure a cyclist, in line with the model adopted in the Netherlands. In the spirit of equality, the Government ought also to impose higher penalties for cyclists who flout road laws."

    My bold...

"Cyclists ... are too long"? Well, that's one downside (?) of cycling I've not heard before. ;)

There may be some worthwhile epetitions out there, but they are almost certain to be lost in a tide of dross.

@kaputnik, despite what the BBC would have you beleive, the most popular petition calls for the retention of the ban on capital punishment.

  9. It shows a drawback as well actually - forty petitions on the same subject? Do people not search to see if a petition laready exists on the subject that they could sign? I would suggest that the more duplicates there are of a particular subject for petition, the stupider the people who are proposing it, and therefore the stupider the idea...

I don't know. Sometimes I start new threads without searching if one already exists. Other times I start a new thread on a completely unrelated subject :)
