Children are more of a dangerous distraction than mobile phones to drivers while driving, does this go for cycling too? ;-)

Well if we banned children in cars they would have to cycle/be towed and we could kill two birds with one stone. Fit kids, less accidents. Everyone is a winner!

There was a truly stonking episode of Brookside, came totally out of the blue. THe posh couple - MAx and Mrs MAx had a tragedy. Mrs MAx is driving her three or four kids to school and she keeps turning round saying - fasten your seat belts whilst she is driving along. She is late for school or obviously she would have ensured the weans had clunk clicked before setting off [any of the anti-helmet rationalists also believe seat belts are dangerous? - no forget I said that]. Anyway Mrs Max is turned round giving it seat belts on to no avail, she turns back crashes the car, kids flying everywhere, all dead. MAx now has no wife, no kids. Drastic plot development but it could happen as I always thought Brookside was very realistic

Seatbelts
Well of course the introduction of seatbelt laws did have an impact on the KSI rates on British roads, not all as expected...
Good news if you are strapped into the car, but not necessarily for the rest of us.
As I have said else where it is time we took a different approach, to borrow a couple of examples "Drive with your heart" or "health warnings for cars".

I had a dream the other night that we could turn our forum into The Luther Blisset Project (now called Wu Ming)

We could all wear huge inflatable helmets or polystyrene ones but massive (like Vic and Bob when they did Lloyd Grossman's head) and cycle around edinburgh together
I think the idea in the dream was to make drivers more cycle aware. Luther Blisset Project was a bunch of Italian anarchist pranksters and I think it needs to be something like that to move the moribund debate onwards.
