Sorry but you really need to edit the title of this thread it should read "Top Gear shows pour petrol over the BBC's standards", it is well passed its sell by date, and promotes bad driving...

Yes:
But I deliberately didn't editorialise the Guardian headline.
That's why it's in quotes.

The problem is that there is no chance to counter Top Gear's dubious claims.
There is no doubt it is a brand winning show and has viewers across the globe - even in the Netherlands where they of course laugh at the 'outrageous antics' safe in the knowledge that the perpetrators are across the North Sea on this car benighted island!
Switch channels and you'll come across car worship on every corner of your digi box.
There's even a Top Gear type show on BBC Alba - but of course driving in the Gaeltacht is popular (essential?) with many customised cars in that part of Scotland - along with quad bikes and anything with an engine basically.
Air An Rathad - 'Top Gear' in GaelicHere's the spiel...
Fiona gets lost on Harris and Murray is all at sea when the presenters two go head-to-head in an intriguing challenge. Murray has come up with a test to find out if a more ancient form of transport could be a faster way to get around the Western Isles than a super-fast boy racer's car.I wonder what the more ancient form of transport is..? Must be a power boat and not a 'baidhsagal'.... !
There is no real gaelic word for bicycle so I'm told... ;-)

If the BBC listed it under "entertainment", it would be one thing. But they insist on classifying it as "factual". Made bed. Sleep in.
