After my recent altercation with a sleeping policeman I am in need of a new wheel. This has lead me to think about whether I should take the opportunity to change my Norco to disc brakes. To do this I would need to change the forks, so any thoughts on 700c disc forks?

I've a Norco Indie 2 which came with a 700c disc compatible steel fork. I've no experience of trying to get components from Norco, but am pleased with the fork (and the bike). It has mudguard eyes, but no bosses for v-brakes or front rack.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like a look,

    Robert

@Roibeard thanks, I might try talking to Norco.

@steveo I don't see a disc compatible kaffenback fork on plant x, could you point me in the right direction?

  5. Just click on the Planet X Kaffenback Fork link on their site (in 'forks') and at the bottom they list the non-disk and the disc-specific (which is out of stock, and has been for about a month - as soon as they're in I'm getting them for my Kaff).

Thanks Anth, my mistake, I didn't scroll past the picture of the Canti fork.

Sadly it is out of stock, but then again I am in no rush as I am going to be off the bike for a few more weeks yet. So I has requested a stock alert.

    Any other ideas?

  9. On-One are now also doing a Pompatemine Urban fork - Cro-Mo, disc, in black, white, blue or glow-in-the-dark white.

    Here - 50 quid.

    Try http://www.Cotic.co.uk , they sell carbon forks for disks, 700 X 28

Planet X have been out of stock for a while. I requested notification when they come in stock ages ago, before i even found the Cotic, decided what I wanted and then ordered it through Cycel scheme.....

  13. I sent On-One/Planet X a query on the Kaff disc forls at the end of last week. Just got a reply saying they expect them in stock at the end of October.

I suspect they've discontinued the old Kaff stuff as they have a new Kaff coming this year.

So you think it is just a waiting game then? Currently there are no road disc forks on their website.

I would have though this might be a popular item with the rule changes on using disc brakes in CX competitions. It is only a matter of time before there are disc brakes on full-on road bikes.

    Just received this:

    Dear
You requested a stock alert from Planet X on 20-07-2011.
We're sorry to say that Planet X Kaffenback Fork / 1"1/18 / Sand / Road with Disc has now been discontinued. We are not expecting to get any more in stock.
We usually discontinue an item when it is superseded by an alternative. Check out our site to see what's currently available or contact us to let us find you an alternative.

Well I contacted Planet X and got this reply:

Our design team is currently evaluating various options, from steel to carbon, but don't have anything available at the present time.

Thanks for your support and interest in our company.

So it looks like there is something in the pipeline, but no time scale given.

A new page has just appeared on the Planet X website for the Kaffenback 2011 Fork available with cantilever or disc brake mounts, no picture yet. This could be a contender...

Would a disc version of the Kaff be a D-Kaff?

    Ayethangew, here all week. Sadly.

The New Kaffenback frame appears to have mounts for Disk brakes.

Hang on there was another page which I though anth had posted, now I am confused. So which are the ones that have been discontinued?

    Posted 13 years ago #
  27. The 2010 sand coloured ones (that match my Kaff) have been discontinued; the 2011 new black and, ugh, bronze ones are now for sale.

I had forgotten about this thread, for the record I ended up with a Kinesis DC19 and a new set of wheels.
