Feedback welcome.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
That dog looks a bit 'specific'.
I do like that screen printed with hand written text thing you've got going there.
Are you really going to distribute them around paths? Let me know if you want a hand. T'would be a fine thing to do.
My plan is to laminate them and attach them to lampposts (I might trial a few early early Sunday morning - as in about a 7am ride). From first idea, to design in half-a-day. Citycycling gets on the case quickly!
Something similar but car-related to guerrilla-append to traffic lights would also be cool. I'd stump up a donation and time to get those made and distributed.
Whoa. That's what I call real Citizen Cyclist activism!
If I may suggest a design with two NO panels and a YES; the first NO being a car over the ASL, the second being a cyclist jumping the red and the third being the cyclist happily waiting in the ASZ and the car waiting behind.
As kaputnik says I think the tone is aimed at being non-confrontational; avoiding barking orders (no matter how much we feel like doing it at times; he took my original path idea, which was very much in the DO/DO NOT (there is no try) tone, explained the reasons for softening it, and turned it into something beautiful).
Bigger plans for these, and future designs, than just Edinburgh. So it'll probably be a week or so before these make their debut so that I have time to set-up the mini-site and 'order' section for others to join in...
Also on the Corstorphine cycle path, this morning, I said "That's alright", to a woman who apologised for her do crossing the path on the end of a very long lead.
I didn't offer to give her dog a backy* though.
(*is that how you spell it? - looks odd)
It has to be either backy or backie because baccie is tobacco (in Scots) and bacci probably has some connection with lovers of fine wine.
Most probably backie for bike. I'd've thought baccy for tobacco.
Bacchi for wine-related things?
@Anth/Kap: I was thinking in terms of Responsible Drivers'n'Cyclists Vs Rubbish Drivers'n'Cyclists rather than Cyclists Vs Drivers, but less of the Vs business overall would be better yet, true.
I thought uberuce's idea definitely fit the 'we're all in it together' theme.... (ick)
@wingpig: Chewbacci, the act of giving Wookies a lift on your bike?
Now, _there's_ an image just waiting to be drawn...
A Wookie, Uberuce? I assume you mean a Wookiee.
There's probably not much call for a plural version of the singular Bacchus unless you were generically referring to Bacchus and Dionysus together (and any other god-of-inebriation from one of those other religions they have these days).
The Big Cycling Society
Baccy is more acceptable to Google and Apple's system-wide dictionary. I've been trying to find a Broons reference to baccie but the more I look at the word, the more wrong it appears.
And Bachi are Taiko drum sticks... I have a pair, being a Japanese drummer and evryfink.
also bakkie = south african slang for a pickup truck (as in what you make your workers ride around in the back of..)
*ruefully hands in his nerd piece and shield*
Good stuff.
As with anything, a bit of empathy and consideration will go along way, which is why I reckon it's always a good idea to thank peds for controlling their dog or standing to one side to let you cycle past, or to thank drivers for considerate driving.
Like the man said, "Can't we all just get along?"
