    FROM ANOTHER THREAD

In some ways it's amazing the number of 'new' cyclists that stick with it.

There's the unfamiliar bike to deal with, traffic, rules of the road (maybe better if rider has done a driving test) PLUS the fact that they are unlikely to be 'bike fit' - if even if they are generally/sporty fit, the reality is cycling uses different muscles and requires hands to deal with (probably) unfamiliar brakes/gears.

My thoughts on cycle safety are here (OK that is the spam out of the way). Shouldn't we be thinking more along the lines of transport rather than sport, style over speed, etc for the beginners, once they have the fitness then they can decide if they want to get into the sports side of cycling.

    Yes

I used the word "sporty' to suggest that there may some people who consider themselves fit but still find riding a bike is 'too difficult' (for whatever reason).

I suspect I'm just being grumpy today, but I honestly don't see the point to this website. I looked at it when it launched and bought some stuff from the Sustrans website, but have not yet found the website particularly useful. To each their own, I guess.
