    Etiquette question -

How do early (novice) arrivers make sure that they 'connect' with the right group of bun eaters?

Also how do you deal with people too shy to reveal their username or those who don't want to be known by their 'real' name? (Perhaps such people don't come?)

Link to the CCE Top Trumps thread so that those who used the card-style template and weren't too shy to use a photo showing their face there can be recognised, if they turn up?

  3. I'm really rubbish at actually asking people what their username or real name is, so I tend to arrive and if there are new faces just chat away and hope that it comes out in conversation... :-/

QR codes - just bought some of the Bike Revolution Shepherd code stickers for the most valuable of the stable (yep, it's got to that stage! Bikes now outnumber people and storage space...)

I thought it more likely that interested individuals would have smart phones/QR readers than the constabulary having the time and inclination to use an RFID reader!

I'll aim to pop along tomorrow and see if they work - I don't have a phone myself!

That would make it simple (for me)....!

I'm going to try to bring two books. One is Bella for Anth - hopefully before he goes to his job.

Other is David Byrne for anyone interested.

That's if I get dog sorted etc....

I used to use a specific barcode/QR code app but now use the much more generic Google Goggles which is supposed to intelligently interpret anything you point the camera at (but in reality, I must confess, that this is not an app a have ever used for any serious purpose).

0715 the baby was still asleep therefore I was still asleep. Makes a change from the last time when he was ill. I think my attendance at these coffee meets will probably need full planetary alignment before i'll make it...

Well, hellooo, it was really good to meet such a bunch of friendly people! I ended up spending an hour and a half there. It was idyllic except for the noise of the huge diesel engine periodically roaring away beside us (the Quartermile window cleaner appeared with a sort of telescopic monster Thunderbirds spider tractor, remote controlled too).
If I was giving anyone strange looks it was probably because I couldn't hear what you were saying!
And now I've had my first cardamom bun, too. Mmmmm.
I was dead impressed by those on their way out to the Gyle or further. I just had another hundred yards to go - I felt like such a fraud :)

  26. Very brief spot of you SRD!

I'd been collared by John the Big Issue man when I first arrived at PY (I was very early indeed) and he'd asked me to take a photo of him when I was leaving.

Also, another lady cyclist sat at a PY table outside first thing, I asked if she was part of the citycyclingedinburgh gathering since I knew a few new people were expected, but she wasn't. Strangely seemed very aware of us though, and thought we were usually there on a Wednesday. We had a brief chat but she didn't seem to bothered abotu the forum...

"she didn't seem to bothered abotu the forum"

You'll have to improve your selling technique.

Something like - 'it's a groovy place where cool bikers hang out and put the (Edinburgh) world to rights'.
