Alanr's last post about how rubbish the Haymarket junction is reminded me of something, but I figured it was a thread worthy of not OTing so would start a new one.

This morning I could swear that the lights at bottom of Morrison Street (heading west) and those at bottom of Dalry Road (heading east) both turned green at the same time.

If they didn't, the other stream of traffic got it woefully wrong, as we (me, 2 other cyclists, busses behind, taxi infront) definitely went on a green and were met by the opposing stream of traffic trying to go across our path!

Taxi got stuck. Pandemonium ensued. Bus started tooting things to get out its way. Cyclists managed to filter through, only to get stuck behind a taxi wedged between a westbound Citylink and an eastboung tipper truck...

Weird. I was running about 15 minutes late after having a shirt ironing failure and having to start again. Maybe it's always like that at that time of the morning.

"after having a shirt ironing failure"

You should make the shirt get up earlier so it has time to do itself properly.

Shirt set the alarm on the Blackberry, the clock of which would seem - retrospectively - to be out...

once you iron them, then you gotta fold them....but don't start that again...

the traffic fiasco might just be Festival driving madness??? It is very contagious.

I think kaputnik is right - at least, when I was going through Haymarket on the Dalry Road, I noticed a huge stream of cross-traffic blocking our way across to Palmerston Place. I was able to dodge round it, but normally traffic doesn't queue right across the junction, as it was doing then. This was about 08-30 on Friday morning, but when I returned going the other way (from Morrison Street up Dalry Road) at 17:30 ish, there was another queue-across-the-junction queue (again, much worse than normal). Maybe problems with the traffic lights?

Again this happened this morning. Stream of cars heading down Dalry Road must have jumped the red en masse and just tried to floor it across the path of the traffic going through green from Morrison Street heading onto Haymarket. It's really scary!

There is a large CCTV camera on a pole here covering this junction. Anyone got any suggestions about who I could contact (is it Police or Council?) about this, it's the second time I've noticed this happening in 2 weeks and it's really dangerous.
