    Sunday @ 2300 - HN03YLD - Silver Renault Laguna Scenic

Had a very near miss thanks to the C*** driving the above car.

I was cycling east along Queensferry Road. Car came from Orchard Road Soutn and turned left across me into Orchard Road. Unsure if the driver saw me but if I had not braked I would have been hit.

I've been taking some pleasure lately in watching drivers ignore the "Road Closed" signs (multiple) at the top of Kirk Brae. Seen several drive up, slow down at the signs and I presume note the "Local Access Only" as a suggestion that they can, in fact, drive through.

The glee when I see down the hill the rapid appearance of brake lights and see a car reversing back up the hill is just fantastic!

Just remembered. Yesterday when crossing the toucan crossing at Lindsay Road on my bike, and then turned downhill on to the road, a driver of a van wound down his window and shouted at me that I was a something b*stard for no apparent reason. Except, of course, I was on a bicycle. Bizarre.

When approaching the temporary lights at a road narrowed to single lane, and if one sees an ambulance flashing blues at the other end attempting to travel through it, do you:

    A) Ignore the fact it's green and stop to let the ambulance through?

    or

    B) Fail to spot the four eye-broiling blue flashing lights in your plain line of sight, and Pavlov through the green, thus impeding the ambulance?

Ambulance driver and I shared a 'what a bunch of eejits' look as he passed me doing A.

'expert logistics' lorry which turned left from Gilmore Place onto view forth without indicating. cyclist behind him had sense to stay back.

then car that was between said cyclist and myself tried the same trick, only signalled halfway through turn.

sadly, my camera had not been downloaded recently and had run out of memory!

2 cars almost taking each other into the next world on my way to the gym. One accelerating REALLY fast away from a traffic light turn and the other pulling out of a junction completely oblivious to approaching car. I was prepping my first aid ABC and prepping stripping off my cotton t-shirt to bandage the pulsing arterial blood of the victims, when one of them managed to brake and swerve. Crazy.

  9. Heading east on the south road round the Park, a couple of cyclists coming the other way, into the headwind and uphill, so naturally a bit slower. Driver behind them is excellent, despite the 'peer pressure' of a queue behind him, and is waiting a nice distance back from them, and doesn't pull out to overtake with me coming the other way.

Cue the old goat in a Skoda Roomster behind the good driver to swing out, making to overtake both the car and the cyclists. The flatcapped fool then noticed 6'3" of cyclist bearing down on him in the opposite direction, so allowed himself the merest of feints back left, but still basically driving down the middle of the road (in the correct application of such term) despite an upcoming blind corner.

Driver of small grey car drawing up to stop at a red light moved left into the cycle lane with as far as I could see the sole aim of preventing me from filtering. I wasn't going to filter anyway as there were cars parked up ahead. In fact I thought the grey car was heading to park too, but then it drove off.

Unbelievably petty behaviour, if I'm correct.

Me: "Amazing how little progress you gained from that sharp aggressive overtake on the hill back there, eh?"

Domestic aggressive shrieker: "WHERE'S YOUR HAT !!"

Me: "I am wearing a hat"

Domestic aggressive shrieker: "THE OTHER HAT !! THE PROPER HAT !! WHERE'S YOUR PROPER HAT !!"

@bax Were you wearing an improper hat? That sounds hilarious.

I nearly spat my coffee out when I read Bax's experience- excellent. We seem to share at least part of a route - where did this happen?

Descending Hillhouse Road, after Queensferry Road.

Standard deflection tactics from the ill-tempered range rover drivist.

I vaguely recall instography was once asked, under similar circumstances on this very same stretch of road, where his kneepads were. Now that's surreal...

Everybody knows the proper hat to be attired in while cycling is a bowler. No wonder he was outraged.

SP58XCE silver Laguna estate, eastbound on Dalry Rd. 17:30. Sat nav on the left of the driver. TV/video on the right hand side.

I kid you not - watching TV while driving.

I saw someone on the city section of the M8 a few weeks ago with an iPad propped up on the dashboard. They might have been using it as a satnav.

TV or reflections of TV visible to the driver is an offence.

I'm uneasy about these modern cars with their touchscreen controls. I can work most of the buttons on my car by feeling them. Not that it makes much difference as there is no heating. There is a bluetooth - FM adaptor so I can shout "Play The Chauffeur by Duran Duran." at it then sit back and enjoy Over the hill with the swords of a thousand men by Tenpole Tudor.

Oh my, getting 80s flashbacks now... had completely and utterly forgotten Tenpole Tudor but it's all come flooding back.

Ed Tudor-Pole played a doctor in a Miss Marple a few years ago. The memsahib was watching it.

I think the problem with The Chauffeur is partly do to with Siri not getting Duran Duran very well and the track actually having (Remastered) after the name. Check the video on YouTube. I have no idea why they made it, there was no way it would be on TV back then and it wasn't even a single. It has ladies in basques in a car park then a lady chauffeur goes topless. Looks lovely and arty. Apparently it was based on a Charlotte Rampling movie.

Very poor driving by this Toyota. I think he intentionally swerved into me.

  24. Dear Taxi Licensing people, it would appear that during the trial taking place on George Street, implementing segregated two-way cycle lanes, that the ends of these lanes have become unofficial drop-off areas for taxis. I would be grateful if you could have a word with the taxi drivers of Edinburgh (such as the driver of the number 727 taxi in this clip) and ask that they refrain from doing so, especially when a cyclist is in sight.

    Many thanks

I witnessed some poor driving when I was driving yesterday.

This isn't particularly unusual and given that I'm in a protective steel cage I don't mind as much as when I'm cycling.

However, what is noteworthy, is that I've witnessed bad driving from this vehicle before when cycling and have seen video evidence from condor2378 showing the same. The two videos are further up this thread, or on YouTube if you search for his registration SK04 SUP.

It seems his bad driving is not just aimed at cyclists but all road users.

@SRD - "mum cam by with baby and pushchair - had to go totally into the road."

Turns out that the Mum was Mrs F.

She tells me that she was in a rush otherwise she would have joined in!

    @chrisfl small world!

It was a bizarre coincidence - i'd turned back to talk to him after he shouted abuse at me (my original request had been totally civil), and then just as I was saying 'you're forcing mums with pushchairs out into the road" she came past.

anyway, still annoyed i handled it so badly.

Driver of taxi, plate noted by me as MK10 SWU, put his vehicle next to Boyfriend of Fimm in an ASL. BoF pointed out the ASL (I wasn't close enough to hear what was said). Lights changed, taxi drove off, and stopped in the next ASL. Boyfriend and I cycled up and stopped in front of him. Lights changed. Driver pulled away agressively and passed Boyfriend extremely closely. Boyfriend slapped taxi. Driver was unimpressed, pulled over, got out shouting that b/f had "touched my car" (oh, diddums). Shouts were exchanged. Taxi driver was disinclined to run up hill after b/f on bicycle, and we removed ourselves from the scene.
