    @Nelly

That one should definitely be reported to the police.

Is he going to aim for a pedestrian next time on the basis that they shouldn't be crossing the road without using a pedestrian crossing?

@snowy, yep but my word v his, would be a waste of time.

Oddly enough I usually DO use the path.

First time I have had that happen (deliberately).

If there is a next time I will deal with the perpetrator myself.

  3. I'd still be reporting it for statistical bases, and if anything were to happen with him again and a cyclist his number plate would be on file.

But yeah, I get where you're coming from based on the two times I reported someone.

Keep meaning to add, from Wednesday, the person who (alledgedly) thought it was a good idea to overtake a right-turning car on the right.

The resulting collision (outside the office window) provided a talking point for the rest of the afternoon. Fortunately I don't think anyone was hurt.

I make that right-turn manouever myself, and do feel quite vulnerable doing it. I'll be extra careful for a while, I guess.

Wee black car was 'lightly' driven into the rear of a big red Beemer Xsomething yesterday evening on Princes Street's left-turn-to-Charlotte-Square queue. I couldn't hear the exchange between the two drivers, but the wee black car's bonnet was crinkled somewhat and the Beemer looked unscathed when it revved past me on Charlotte Square a little later.

@Nelly that car (LM08 LMS) doesn't appear to be insured - definitely worth reporting to the police!

@Nelly - I still agree with WC, it should be reported - just to get a record of it. And bonus if they get whacked with insurance charge.

@Nelly They'll quickly be able to confirm if the description of the car matches the one that has that registration number. Go for eeet!

  10. Completely forgot, on Brougham Street on Wednesday, just after lunch. Cars going very sowly eastbounds, and noticed ahead a tipper wagon facing that way, but on the wrong side of the road. Then the police car. Then the ambulance. Heard a siren heading away from us as well. Obscured by the front of the truck, once we got there, was a black cab with its driver side caved in. Can only assume he was doing a swing round and didn't see the wago. Maybe. Just conjecture.

Of course heading towards all of this there was still some muppet tried to overtake me, despite me easily keeping pace with the car a couple of yards in front, and there being oncoming traffic which was further right than usual to go round the obstructions.

The black cab that drove straight towards me as I exited Salisbury Place earlier today. S Place is currently closed for roadworks, entry via Upper Gray St, exit on the left only into the four-way junction with Causewayside & Grange Road. I was going east with a green light (heading onto Grange Road) when the cab going west decided to enter Salisbury Place past the ROAD CLOSED sign by driving on the wrong side of the road - straight at me. I assumed he would stop (naughty to nip in that way, but a forgivable sin, I suppose) in a second when he registered the cyclist he was heading straight for but nope! I swerved to the right and hit the anchors to avoid hitting him, he pulled up - and shouted "****ing eyes, love!" while gesturing to suggest I was a blind idiot. So utterly taken aback that the guy driving on the wrong side of the road felt that I was in the wrong that I just spluttered.

I did raise an unladylike middle finger to him as he pulled away, but spent the next hour or so stewing and wishing I'd turned round and followed him to ask how his experiments in introducing driving on the right one man at a time were going.

Oh, I also met a chap on a mountain bikey thing at the lights at the top of North Bridge this morning (in fetching lime green socks - very 80s retro) who I had just passed remonstrating with another taxi driver. Asked him if he'd been hit and said not quite - he'd been stationery when the taxi had just reversed into him. I think the apology was the standard "never saw you, mate".

Close encounter with a JAg on roseburn street while signalling to turn right. Didn't get his plate mind. Gave me a bit of a shock.

Had this today. I do sometimes wonder what people are thinking (if anything) when they do things like this.

I was in the middle of the straight-on lane, so they had to drive round me (overtake, in other words) across the junction to get into the position they did with Mini-Greenroofer.

The observant will spot the ironic NCN sign on the lamppost just where the car cuts her off.

Despite the optimism of yesterday, there's still a long way to go.

A large mercedes people-carrier style taxi pushed me off the road this morning as I was travelling down Bonnington Road. There was a queue of oncoming traffic in the other lane and the driver decided to rev his engine and just force his way past me.

I've reported to Anne Chandler at the council, will have to see what she says.

I forgot the camera this morning but I got his registration and checked online to ensure it was valid.

Walking into the multistory at the airport and heading across to the taxi rank (for 4 of us it costs less than public transport unfortunately!). There is a black and white zebra to cross the road.

A taxi comes swinging around the corner far to fast as I step out onto it and has to brake sharply and gives me a shake of his head and disapproving look. It's a taxi man I've had issues with before for encroaching on ASLs and other nonsense.

I stopped and shouted "what do you want me to do? It's a pedestrian crossing and you were going too fast? What on earth do you want me to do"

He remains silent and I hope VERY embarrassed in front of his 4 passengers.

Fortunately I know he doesn't work for the taxi company my employers contract with and I would absolutely refuse to get in his cab if ever it was at the front of a rank.

The driver of an Edinburgh University van that suddenly decided to use the cycle lane as a slip road to nip up the inside of the traffic queuing along Teviot Place to turn left into the Medical School. Unfortunately I was approaching on the cycle lane at the time so had to slam on my brakes and swerve to the right of the van in front of a (fortunately) slow moving bus - I turned around to glare at the driver of the van as I passed and lifted my hand in exasperation. A pity that my action camera mount has broken.

  20. Phoenix Drilling Ltd van driver who was turning right onto the road I was travelling down in Livingston. He looked, saw me coming and then decided to pull out anyway without even leaving me enough room on the left hand side. I managed to slow down and avoid running into him but given how wet it was and slightly downhill, it felt a bit scary.

Immediately following this I reached the junction at the end of the road and wanted to turn right. There was a flatbed truck waiting to turn right and when he saw me pull up beside him gave me the thumbs up to pull out before him. Nice considerate driving which was welcome after the idiot I had just encountered.

JDFoodStuff (?) DAF Truck registration SN13EWE. I was going straight across at Holy Corner this morning from Colinton Road into Chamberlain Road and this truck was behind me. As I proceeded in primary along Chamberlain Road there was a cyclist ahead of me who I rapidly caught, as I was probably going close to 20 mph. This obviously wasn't fast enough for the truck driver who proceeded to overtake me as I was signalling to move past the other cyclist whilst passing over the speed reduction measures on this road. Good job I shoulder checked otherwise I'd have been squashed.

Annoyingly, I can't find any details of JDFoodstuffs (may have been JB) anywhere so I can't even report the incident to the driver's employer. I'm sure there was an 0141 number on the rear of the lorry though.

I've just emailed Stagecoach about the driver who pulled out in front of me on a roundabout in Rosyth earlier without even glancing in the direction of oncoming traffic.

Fortunately I noticed his mistake and stopped in sufficient time. After warning the driver he simply waved and continued to barge in front of me.

Very poor driving, which spoilt an otherwise pleasant commute.

MGIF Award (White Van Category) goes to... the driver who went the wrong way round the roundabout in order to overtake me.

Yet another driver pulled out from Mill hill as I was approaching the Goose Green bridge. I felt bad flipping her the bird till I realised that if she can't see a 6'2" cyclist she's not going to see a finger.

Ever since I bought the Virb camera I've had uneventful rides for the last few hundred miles.

Inevitably, I omitted to fit it today, and within 5 minutes of departing was nearly offed when crossing one of Spylaw Road's mini-roundabouts by a driver joining from my left who completely failed to see me. Quite how you can fail to see a 100kg bloke in a very bright hi-viz jacket at a distance of 5 metres is beyond me, but there you go.

Fortunately she was taking a left turn because if she'd been going straight over the roundabout I'd have been going over the roof of the car. As it was, missed by an inch if that.

I hope the woman who was checking her phone as she approached a junction could hear me suggesting she get off said device.

Woman driving down east preston street towards me very erratically.

As she passed at about 30mph, I saw it was because she was trying to put her seatbelt on one handed while steering with the other. Good job!
