The agressive white van driver who caught up behind me as I was waiting to turn right from Craighouse Gardens onto Craighouse Road, then followed closely and noisily down the hill, up the other side and around the blind bend before overtaking at speed on Myreside Road. Had I not been in primary the whole way, I suspect that the driver would have tried a dangerous overtake prior to that, either at the pinch point or on the blind bend (with traffic coming the other way as it turned out).

well, turns out it was me.
the wonders of twitter.
so there's no way to report this other than to stroll in to an Edinburgh cop shop, right?
or can i do it from Fife? how long do i have?
big mountain stage at la vuelta today, live on eurosport, not missing it for that radge

Don't believe anything anyone in the 101-receiving call centre tells you regarding what you can or can't do at or expect from a physical police station.
Seeing as all Scottish police are now as one police, it would make sense if you were able to wander into the station nearest you at a convenient time. Could also try emailing them, where their response will at least be recorded in case it turns out to not be true.Posted 9 years ago # -
Cheers wingpig
I'll go to the nearest station after the big mountain stage finishes this afternoon.

White van man enters roundabout from London Road this morning at 7.30 as I was travelling uphill on Leith Walk. The fact that I was on the roundabout in exactly the place he intended to travel didn't give him pause. He came right onto the roundabout without changing speed (I braked sharply instead) and he looked straight through me.
Do you think he saw me waving at his receding vehicle, or do you think he didn't even see that? Am I the gorilla that walked across the frame, totally unseen?

Young woman in a wee white car, tea time tonight. Junction of Grange Rd/Causewayside.
in an attempt to squeeze by a waiting-to-turn-right car, she pulled sharply into the cycle lane right into my path.
Much skidding, much shouting, much luck.
She didn't apologise, but she did have an excuse. She was on her way to hospital!
We very nearly both were.

Follow up to my complaint about the bus driving too close to the bike:
"Thank you for your further correspondence, unfortunately due to confidentiality we cannot disclose what monitoring or discipline the driver may have received. I can only reassure you that the driver has been dealt with under the Company’s discipline policy. "
Posted 9 years ago # -
@Stickman
That's all very well but a quick Google doesn't reveal what Lothian Buses' discipline policy is.

"I can only reassure you that the driver has been dealt with under the Company’s discipline policy. "
That is just ambiguous and not really helpful.
They used to send out letters basically saying 'we've looked at the footage and agree with your complaint'.
After that I really have no interest in what they have done with the driver - I trust their judgement about whether a quick word, some extra training or the sack is appropriate.
The problem now is that due to change in the way they give feedback, I (and it seems others) am put off complaining.
This might be what LB wants as it saves them hassle BUT it also deprives them of some safety info - in addition to individual incidents they would have a better idea if certain drivers are repeat offenders.

@Stickman
thanks for the heads up on the witness yesterday
this crime has now been reported to the polis, and i've arranged an interview with them on saturday to go over all the details
Posted 9 years ago # -
"i've arranged an interview with them"
Did you go to the police station?
Posted 9 years ago # -
i did - but there's no actual cops there, they're all out driving around in cars all day
got a number from the desk lady typing into the computer, but no idea if its an official "crime" number
will be politely insisting on it on saturday though
Posted 9 years ago # -
got a number from the desk lady typing into the computer, but no idea if its an official "crime" number
No it will just be a reference / caller number. You won't get a Crime Reference Number until interviewed and statement given and signed for.

Incident with Edinburgh Council this morning, does anyone know who at the council I should report this to?
9am today, coming along Clermiston Road heading South just after the Fox Covert roundabout, Edinburgh Council liveried large truck passes so close to me that their extended wing mirrors (ironically, there so they can see bikes etc better!) pass over the bars of my bike. If I'd been a bit taller they would have hit me, so you can imagine how close the actual truck itself was. Terriftying. SK12 PCV

I'd email lesley hinds. she always promises to pursue such things. maybe worth asking her to follow up and let you know outcome too.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Ta, will do.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@kaputnik
Interviewed this morning, statement given and signed for
No crime number given as Edinburgh will be dealing with it and I attended interview in Fife
However I'm told a crime number should be given as this is clearly dangerous driving with corroboration
We shall see

No fewer than 9 cars parked in the Leith Walk cycle lane outside where La Favorita is. Seven of those were delivery cars from The Favourite.
Posted 9 years ago # -
What's the view of the very learned legal eagles of the legality or otherwise of double parking, as in @The Boy's post above? Although it is an advisory cycle lane outside La Favorita, there is a parking area inside it, so imo, the cars are double parking in the road. And in a broader question, what the legal status of double parking on a road without a defined parking area on it?
One night some time ago, I saw one of La Favorita's 500s delivering to an address on Newhaven Road. For those who don't know, it's a very busy road usually parked on both sides, leaving just enough room for one moving lane in each direction. The LF wasp was merrily blocking the entire northward lane, while delivering the pizza. I will never patronise this restaurant until they change their parking policy.

The driver of matte-black Beemer P666 MCL. Presumably the "I intend to try and overtake you on this hundred-metre stretch of single-lane road" revving behind me on George Street was also him, but it was the revvy overtake going around the corner from Lothian Road to the West Approach (with what looked like the preparatory-to-verbal lowering of the driver's window) which really switched on the flashing lightbulbs around the edge of the arrow-shaped sign with "MORON" written on it floating a few feet above his car.
Also a red car which seemed to mistake the green light for people heading east from George Street across Hanover Street for a green from people heading south from the north bit of Hanover Street.

Driver of taxi, number 891, reg SN57 HCD, messing with his phone while in a queue for a red traffic light. I stopped and looked in the window and he dropped the thing pronto, wound down his window and said "Alright?" by which time I'd cycled past. He knew quite well what my problem was...

Malcolm Bell Decorators van, with phone numbers and web address all over!, performed a dangerous overtake on Arboretum Place just before the roundabout heading north. He then stopped at the roundabout to say something to me, didn't catch what it was, but didn't sound like an apology. Have it on gopro, so will decide later whether to send to the company or not.

Saw that close inside pass Wingpig, nasty, I was in the straight-on lane. So many things about that vehicle screamed 'Grade-A fool inside'.
Given that was you, was I behind you at one of the George St zebra crossings where you'd stopped & the 2 peds then decided to have a lengthy confab on the kerb rather than cross?
Posted 9 years ago # -
I suspect that decorator may be a one man band, Nevelbell...
Posted 9 years ago # -
@Murun Buchstansangur Probably - I couldn't tell if they were expecting me to barge through or had forgotten that they were next to a crossing at which traffic might suspect them of intending to cross. Was that at Frederick or Castle St?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Wingpig - it was Frederick St I think, I turn off at Castle St so didn't see your 1st encounter with the Beast (or the Number thereof).

Today's numpty of the week prize* goes to the eejit behind the wheel of Y364JSC who looked straight at me before driving straight at me as he started to perform a U turn on Scotstoun Avenue. No acknowledgment no apology just flinging his car backwards and forwards over the road and expecting all nearby to get out his way.
It's only Monday but I don't expect to see any worse than this muppets behaviour for quite some time.

Not from today, but almost exactly a year ago in fact.
I received a message asking me to delete this due to the video containing "personal information which you do not have my permission to use".
I also received an email from YouTube saying they have been asked to investigate a privacy complaint for the video.
Nothing personal in the video: a video filmed on a public road of a bad overtake. Clearly this company are trying to hide the fact they employ bad drivers. Maybe they should spend their time learning how to drive safely rather than trying to block videos on YouTube, which they have no change of getting removed.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Clearly a nefarious claim by someone who is completely unfamiliar with what (legally) constitutes personal information.
