I stopped at the London Road roundabout as there were things approaching from the right. Three cars were driven through as I waited. I stopped on the roundabout just before the London Road exit to let an ambulance out. Two cars were driven past as I waited.

Just witnessed a black cab driver berating a private hire driver for stopping on No Parking/No Waiting DYLs.
I know it was probably internecine taxi warfare related, but I'm amazed the karmic gods didn't turn the black cabbie into a pillar of salt or cleave his tongue to the roof of his mouth for the hypocrisy.

First bus driver eating a roll and driving one handed on St John's Road this morning.
She then complained at me taking her photo...

Report to cbn office?

I've been having a run of bad luck recently that has me questioning why I should keep on putting myself in danger by cycling on the roads.
First incident had a white audi (cliche) pull out from a side road on the left while I was cycling at 20mph giving me no chance to break. Instead I had to swerve out wide onto the other side of the road and hope nothing was coming.
Second incident had a car pull out from a road on the right and try to drive right through my back wheel to go over the crossroads.
In both cases I missed serious and possibly life changing injuries by inches and each driver claims to have not seen me. Sorry mate....
I'm lit up like a christmas tree and dress like a binman in hi-viz/reflectives, but have come to the conclusion that you cannot mitigate bad driving. If they don't see you they just don't see you whatever you choose to do. I'm fed up and looking forwards to the festive break when I can take time away from commuting.

my better half has a work colleague whose husband was knocked off bike yesterday at start of his commute up Merchiston way. There is a great deal of bad driving going on at this time of year.

Numpty driver on George Street tries to change lanes (into me) to avoid standstill traffic. I shouted "look first!". He proceeded to not make any eye contact at all. As if to provide distraction until the lights changed the mini driver in front of me changed lanes by moving forward into the ASZ. I hollered "nice bike!" at the driver but don't think she got the point.

I had a weird one the other night that doesn't really belong in rubbish driving, but...
I was cycling from work in Stirling to Bridge of Allan station when a car slowed behind me. There wasn't a good place to pass but, suprisingly, they didn't force it; instead, they held back patiently - I was cycling at about 35kph; not in absolute primary, about a metre from the kerb. As it happened, it was quite a way before oncoming traffic and the road allowed a safe overtake; they remained patiently behind me, leaving a commendable distance; after about a kilometre we reached a straight bit of road, at which point they accelerated smoothly and passed me, giving me at least 2 metres of clearance. I was about about to wave my gratitude when I looked over and saw the passenger angrily giving me the finger and shouting red-faced obscenities - at least, I assume so; the window was closed so it was mimed.
It was all I could do not to fall off the bike laughing. I've never found someone giving me dog's abuse (I assume) from a car so amusing!

Sounds like the passenger was saying something like
You bar steward you have forced my driver to be a good driver and observe the high code who do you think you are King Canute?

Perhaps the driver is indeed perfectly considerate and was just as shocked as you were at their passenger's behaviour, silently gritting their teeth in silent embarrassment at the tirade.

Quite a few examples inflicted upon my pedaling self on the way in this morning. Left hook, close pass, pulling out into the space I was occupying because they didn't bother to check their mirrors, then another left hook, then a really close pass. All 5 by different drivers.

This morning at the lights for the pedestrian crossing between Omni and John Lewis. I'd just left the roundabout travelling towards the lights as they turned amber. With half a bus length to go before the stop line (about where the massive pothole is) a Lothian Bus squeezes past in my lane. While I'm navigating the pothole, in rain and heaving winds. He immediately has to pull up because it's a red light and I have a good shout at the driver.

@dougal Reported it? My last two complaints to LB have resulted in refreshing "yes, our bad, sorry" responses after a number of successive "looks fine to us".

@wingpig Sadly I have no visual record nor bus number nor registration number. I will maybe send "you done a badness" as a note of my dissatisfaction but I don't have anything more to pin on them sadly.

Shouted at for not being in the bike lane on Leith Walk, while passing a double parked vehicle and slowing for a ped to cross on a zebra ahead.
Took great joy in filtering past 15+ vehicles queued at the foot of the walk.

The usual turkey at Picardy Place roundabout, hotbed of bad driving. Tries to overtake me with a stopped car in front, but there's so little space that he has to stop his car at a 45-degree angle. He can't move from this half-baked transition until the car in front moves off so I take the opportunity to ask him what the plan was. He shakes his head as if in disgust at his own appalling lack of foresight.

Wee jeepy sort of thing doing 40mph up the 30mph Restalrig Road, through the uphill bit where there are parked cars on both sides reducing the road to less than a double vehicle-width. When I reached the top of Smokey Brae (having travelled at no more than 20mph) the wee jeepy thing was sitting in the ASL, waiting to turn right.

You could tell it was back to work for a lot of folk.
Two drivers too busy to look so I had to brake and give way to their stupid driving and one very close overtake.

Waiting at a junction to turn right, driver turning right into my side road cut the corner, not looking. I had to do a quick bail out. She did stop to ask if I was okay (I was).

Small van going so fast down the Mound to catch the green that it scraped its left side on the ground as it swerved when crossing the tram tracks.

Someone driving a big dark jeepy thing in the dark along Queensferry Road - with no lights. Full stealth mode - possibly useful on military maneuvers, less so commuting in Edinburgh.

Earlier today I stopped to take a picture of a megapothole that has opened up in Greenbank. The megapothole was full of water so I waited well back while various vehicles passed, in case of splashage. They all pass without incident.
Along comes a Lothian number 5 bus which goes straight through the pothole at speed and I get literally covered in muddy water. OK it may not have been deliberate (not convinced it wasn't), but why didn't they go around it like everyone else? Is this why those new buses are so rattly already?

Driver of flat bed lorry belonging to MKM Building Services who drove through a red light on Fountainbridge at Ponton Street this morning. Have emailed to complain.

Had a bin lorry go through a red at the ped crossing of Duddingston Rd/Innocent Railway this morning. It was really late, I was about to push off but heard it roaring down the hill. Annoyed I didn't have my camera on, and didn't get any details.

Well if you know the time, CEC would be able to trace it - assuming you are sure enough that it was a council vehicle rather a private one(?)

Bin lorries always get my bike spidey senses tingling. In my book they are the most impatient rude and dangerous drivers in town.

With a cold on its way from my throat to my lungs I could have done without having to bellow at the driver of the unmarked white van which whizzed serenely across the roundabout from Marionville Avenue to Lochend Road last night, inches from the path of which I was able to stop. Also almost rammed by a patient transport-looking minibus thing whose driver appeared to have been assuming that I'd have jumped the red light at the bottom of Lauriston Place and beeped at by an oaf in another van who didn't like the way I didn't swerve in behind a bus so that he could steam past.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@chdot I'm not sure - looked private but I'm not sure how to tell. Had mostly green on the side.
