Not sure this really fits. Heading up Leith Walk this morning where approaching a single-lane section with roadworks. I pulled in to the side to let a cement mixer past - gesturing to the lane in front to let it proceed.

I looked up at the cab and realised (a) the windows seemed about 10 metres high and swept inwards to make looking down really hard (b) the driver wouldn't be able to see my gestures - if they knew I was there at all.

The whole thing seemed designed for failure.

CTM Group illustrating their motto of "Guiding you safely through..."

There was a passing traffic warden who I spoke to but she said "it's ok, the driver's just out getting a roll".
    You couldn't make it up...

Dropbox links end in jpg but are actual pages rather than images (have removed img tags).

Easy mistake - Dropbox 'fault' for .jpg suffice which should mean it is an image.

Vehicle in front of me approaching the West Maitland Street lights revved up a little as the lights started to change, but then though better of it (perhaps because of the amassing pedestrians) and merely rolled almost all the way past the first stop line.

@Ed1 that's a bad advert for Team Sky. Shocking close pass. Narrow road and oncoming traffic. Classic impatient driver and blatant disregard for the cyclist's safety.

Driver of a large BMW 4x4 first of all pulled out of Russell Road to try to force her way into the queue at Roseburn Street, thereby blocking the traffic turning in from Roseburn Terrace. She was behind me as I turned right and tried to undertake me in the left hand lane - first time I've had that manoeuvre for a while. I caught up with her as she stopped in the Greenway outside the Haymarket Terrace Tesco.

It would be awful if a bike lane was to cause congestion and stop drivers getting safely from A to B. Sigh.

Bin lorry drove out of Distillery Lane onto Dalry Road during rush hour last night, blocked the lane heading towards Dalry so that one of the guys could go to the shop. I laughed so hard.

City access scaffolding turning right from Sciennes Road to Argyle Place cutting the corner terribly due to being on the phone and driving with one hand while I was waiting to turn right from Argyle Place up Roseneath street, forcing me to take evasive action. It's not uncommon to have to move if you're there so I am usually prepared for it, but it's usually for the left turning buses which justifiably need a big turning circle.

On Sunday afternoon, I was cycling along Beaufort Road with the intention of turning left onto Kilgraston Road. The lights at the junction were red so I stopped within the left of the ASZ. Shortly afterwards, I was aware of a vehcile inching up alongside me and turned to see a driver stopping his car a good 2/3 into the ASZ. I gestured towards the ground and the position of the car and raised my hands in exasperation, but the driver looked at me in a bemused fashion. A bus then turned left from Marchmont Road and had to wait while the driver reversed back behind the ASZ. I lifted my hands in exasperation again and pointedly stared at the driver and then the bus driver. The lights then turned green and I turned left and the car went straight on. Whilst the driver was clearly a complete idiot, it does worry me that buses must be routinely infringing on the corner of the ASZ at that junction, in a similar way to that which algo described above only a few streets away.

On road with new Tarmac up where city hospital used to be I was driven at by sporty Mercedes. Came out of side street and drove straight at me. Driver thought he could swing round and drive parallel to me. I was on electric bike so could have accelerated. Luckily for me I didn't as he then cut right in front of me to avoid the oncoming traffic. Very bad.

Punishment pass this morning on Gorgie Rd heading west.

The driver of a blue Astra LV63-something didn't like that I'd held primary through the pinch point after Henderson Tce and held him up for all of 0.5 secs.

Caught up at the next lights and asked him if that was a punishment pass, to which he mumbled something about I should be on the left... Then he drove off in a cowardly manner.

I then caught up with him again at the next set of lights.

Driver yesterday gave me lots of room - nearly textbook overtake

just a shame about the cyclist coming the other way that the car seemed (from my perspective) to get rather too close to.

Decent response from City Access Scaffolding, although I know the driver's account to be untrue.

APC overnight courier van holding up a bus for a full minute on Frederick Street on Friday lunchtime as the van driver studied something on his wheel. On the second beep he resumed noticing the outside world and turned into Rose St.

A small black car went past within an elbow's reach no the slight left-hand on Lady Road heading away from Cameron Toll. Fortunately, as I'd had enough time to be going that way in the first place I also had enough time to follow the vehicle into the Savacentre car park to loudly-but-politely recommend to the driver that they leave more space, as they emerged from their vehicle in the fuel aisle.

I was driving a car towards Newton Stewart yesterday when, coming round a corner I was confronted with a tractor about to overtake a cyclist. Stupidly I didn't react immediately, thinking the tractor driver would realise their mistake and pull back in. They didn't and I was forced to come to a complete halt to avoid a full on collision. At least they appeared to be giving the cyclist plenty of room..

I was cycling along the A70 outside Balerno heading for Livingston this morning when the driver of a car coming the other way pulled out to overtake the car in front of him. I gave him a bit of a wave and he pulled back in (to fair I think he was pulling back in anyway) but as he passed me he made a gesture that in my memory looked like he was pointing to his watch.

If I'm right, what on earth was he trying to communicate?
"I'm late for work, so it is OK to kill you"?

Could it have been something like "no need to wave, I was pulling back in anyway" or even "get in to the side of the road so I can dangerously pass you head-on at 70"?

On my way home after the nursery run I have happened across a chap in a BMW who has twice given me cause to slightly shake my head.

Both times he was coming towards me and was overtaking a parked car on his side of the road. The first time, I was in clear view and I had to brake for him to complete his manoeuvre. The second, today, was around a blind corner and although he completed the move just before I got there, as he was travelling at around the 30mph speed limit, he would have been unable to stop had I been 2 seconds further ahead.

On both occasions, the driver went completely ballistic in reaction to my understated disapproval - rude hand gestures, swearing, stopping his car and yelling after me. I suspect that he actually got out of his car today to get all agimatated!

I kept on cycling and my only response on both occasions was to say slow down.

It is a small neighbourhood so I know where he lives. I don't really want to engage with somebody who has such a short fuse but his reaction is quite concerning. Should I report him, put a note through his door, speak to him?

Note under the windscreen wiper? Thereby putting him on notice that he & his vehicle is 'kent'.

I don't know - I think people sometimes go weird when they get in a car and behave in ways they wouldn't do in normal life.

I think speaking to him would be fine as long as you phrased the conversation in a way that made it clear you wanted to explain why you felt vulnerable, rather than saying he's a bad driver - even if that's clearly true.

Lady in black BMW cutting me up at speed on Gilmore Place not more than a hundred yards before the red light at the King's Theatre junction. Took me all of five seconds to pootle ahead of her into the ASZ. Seriously, what's the point in doing that?
