Yes, Corstorphine Roofing and Building turn up on this thread quite a bit. I would never use them.

Having used them for chimney work, my folks would recommend never using them either.

A previous frequent flier on this thread is Postcode Plumbing, who I had a run in with yesterday whilst I was taking my children to nursery.

I was coming from Silverknowes Parkway and entered the roundabout at the golf course to turn right onto Silverknowes Road in the direction of Marine Drive. The Postcode Plumbing man was coming down Lauriston Farm Road.

From his speed it wasn't clear whether he was going to give way to me so I was on the brakes just in case. He did stop, however, just as I was passing him, he already started to pull out, driving his van less than a meter away from my trailer with the little ones in it.

I signalled and shouted for him to back off and give me more room, but he continued to drive at me. I pulled over to the left of the roundabout and stopped to let him past, but instead of passing me, he pulled up next to me and got all shouty, doing that daft square-go thing with his body, like he wanted to start a fight, a bit like those Toads who suck in air to make themselves look bigger. It wasn't clear to me whether he wished to fight just me or also my infant children.

Fortunately, an approaching Lothian bus put a stop to his road rage by sounding their horn at which point he sped off down Silverknowes Road in the direction of Marine Drive [I imagine] shouting Make way! Make way for Mr Toad of Toad Hall!

@davidsondave - I'm sorry to hear this - this is very frustrating. I take my kids to nursery in a trailer too. I have been threatened too for doing nothing wrong, and I don't think they realise that they are also threatening my children - it is a really horrible situation to be in. I sympathise.

Driver of silver estate car pulling out of Balgreen Park onto Balgreen Ave without noticing the HankChief train coming from her left.

I loudly shouted "woah", she braked and apologetically mouthed 'sorry' as we passed.

Her passenger window was covered in condensation but how she didn't see us (all in technicolour) is beyond me. I suspect she didn't look...

'Quiet Route' 9 doesn't mean safe route :-(

Yesterday morning one car overtook another whilst both turned right from Queen Charlotte Street onto Constitution Street. The one at the back which became the one in front probably just managed to cross the second stop line (or where the second stop line would have been if it was painted on the wrong side of the road, where the car was) after the light went red. Thanks to the bus wedged behind the delivery truck double-parked outside the takeaway on Bernard Street both vehicles were probably still stuck in the queue a couple of cycles of the traffic lights later.

The woman in a Smart roadster who tried to turn left from Lauriston Place onto Lauriston Street the other night as I was crossing as a pedestrian. I stopped in the middle of the road and indicated for her to stop while shouting "it's one way" at her. In retrospect, I could have just pointed at the prominent no entry sign, but she did get the hint after a few moments at which point she crept the car forward, blocking the other pedestrian crossing, and waited there for the lights to turn green once again.

    "

Despite repeated messages regarding inappropriate speed being a factor in collisions, over 350 vehicles were found to be speeding.

A total of 28 drivers were stopped for careless driving, 9 drivers were not wearing their seatbelts and 16 were using mobile phones while driving. In addition 23 vehicles were found to have no insurance with 12 being seized immediately.

Most of the drivers with no insurance were issued with fixed penalties of 6 points on their licence and a £300 fine with the others being reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

MiniSRD and I cycled in to her school early this morning.

As we came up to the gate for the bikeshed/playground, there was a car partially blocking the access, dropping someone off. Minisrd actually missed the turn and went around the car on the right. I slowed down, preparing to turn left into the gate, when the car started reversing straight at me. I shouted - loudly - and the driver stopped.

If mini-SRD had turned into the gate, she would have been immediately behind the car when it reversed.

The driver rolled down his window was extremely apologetic, and our exchange was entirely polite. I doubt he'll ever forget to check his mirrors again in front of the school, but I have to say that I'm still shaking.

The driver of a small silver-grey car SM53 YOC (probably not correct, but that's what I remember).

I believe he/she deliberately swerved at me.

Going along the long straight road in Livingston, the driver of a van has to wait behind me until it is safe to pass. The silver car was behind the van. I don't think they'd been slowed for more than 30 seconds.
Lots of tooting of the horn.

I don't think there's anything I can do about it. I'm sure the police won't be interested, or will tell me it is my fault for wearing a short skirt.

    I'm a bit shaken.

According to ukvehicle.com, that VRN belongs to a small silver Nissan. It's also out of MOT and declared SORN; police might actually be interested.

    Hope you're all right.

Someone presumably desperate to reduce the amount of exercise their child parked right on the corner of Newbattle Terrace/Falcon Gardens this morning. It wasn't immediately obvious that they were intending to stop, as 1: there was a car pulling out/turning right for which they might have been waiting and 2: it was a really stupid place to stop. I had space to get round them but the cars behind us might have struggled.

A little later an impatient wee van thing pulled up in the right-hand filter lane but then didn't turn up Church Hill and instead tried to squeeze between me in my safe-from-doors position and the thundering oncoming traffic, despite the lights at Holy Corner being obviously red.

At least two and possibly three drivers running the red light for the right turn from Dundee Street into Henderson Terrace.

  19. I think this is the strongest worded brush off yet from CEC's taxi office ;

"Thanks for your email, detailing the events with the before mentioned taxi.

We have spoken with the driver of the vehicle and warned him of his driving and behaviour. A note of this complaint has been kept on this record and if we continue to receive complaints about him, we will refer his licence to the committee for possible suspension."

A woman in a white car tried to overtake me heading west on Canaan Lane just as we approached the incredibly sharp and narrow blind bend onto Woodburn Terrace. I was in primary position (to make the point that this wasn't a great place to overtake), so she was completely on the wrong side of the road as she came past me to find a car coming the other way round the corner. She had to stop...

She overtook once we were round the corner, and suffice it to say that I caught up with her again at the lights on Cluny Gardens.

Fountainbridge is down to one lane. Just as I escaped the road works and was pulling to the left again flashing hazards in front of one of the take-aways. Bloke in passenger seat looking at his phone. Didn't hang about but bet the driver would have emerged with a kebab.

Another happy flashing shopper in the cycle lane at Gorgie.

"and if we continue to receive complaints about him"

Does that imply they have already had multiple complaints about him?

Yes probably. I once complained about a driver and got the licence plate slightly wrong, but they still knew immediately who I was talking about! The next time I saw this driver they were brake slamming in front of a speed camera. Haven't seen them since..

Yesterdays bad driver was turning right at a junction with both hands off the steering wheel while they put sunglasses on. Whaaaaaooookay, left hand drive. D'oh.:-)

Surely that's "Today's rubbish observational skills", Min? ;-)

I got an email back from the police asking me to contact them to arrange for an officer to attend and take a statement... Suppose I'd better be a good little citizen and do it.

I hope this driver gets their backside kicked, even if not for their horrible driving at you. It will serve them right.

Yesterday within a few hundred metres Land Rover Freelander reg SC57BHV managed:
    - a close pass on me
    - to halt completely in an ASZ, despite the lights having been on red for several seconds
    - to clip a traffic cone at works
    - to sail through red lights at a pedestrian crossing when the green man had been on for long enough for an elderly gentleman to be halfway across the road.

Inevitably they then pulled up to park just the other side of the crossing. As I passed, shaking my head in despair, the driver used hand gestures to indicate to me that I was too far from the gutter.

42 bus heading south earlier, plonked in the junction box at the junction between Summerhall and West Preston St. Bus was stopped before entering the box, with a static queue of vehicles on the other side of the box, but went ahead and entered it anyway.

Can't believe I forgot this from last night. Campbell's quality meat van using the middle lane on North Bridge to hurtle left to Prince's Street through the green man sending pedestrians scurrying for their lives. Some of the most overtly scummy driving I have seen for a while.

Got a response from the director of JW Glazing that it will be "dealt with internally".
