"One of many drivers exiting the one-way-the-wrong-way Arthur Street onto Leith Walk"

I read this 3 times trying to figure out how Arthur's Seat connects to Leith Walk. Looks like it's going to be one of those days ...

Police carried out an operation on the A1 yesterday.

    Of 48 drivers stopped:

    - 1 drink driver
    - 3 no insurance/letting someone drive without insurance
    - 2 vehicles seized for no insurance
    - 6 vehicles with serious defects
    - 2 without MoT
    - 19 with defects

Those b****y cyclists without insurance, road tax or MoTs.

Carrying extra momentum from the smooth new tarmac on Lower Gilmore Place I pulled out in front of a couple of cars heading in direction on Gilmore Place today when normally I would have stopped and given way. The first of the two then overtook me rather too closely but very, very slowly.

/speculation/ Maybe driving the same route every day and getting repeatedly caught at the same camera, so racked up a lot of points quickly? Nice to see 'Mr Loophole" getting a PR plug.

Car v bus on St John's Road this morning - I was woken by the sound of the crash at 6am.

Some damage on the bus driver's side; the front of the car looked totalled. Judging by the damage and location of the vehicles I would guess that the car has drifted into the opposite side and into the path of the bus. Maybe mobile phone distraction?

This is a possible explanation mentioned in the article too. Takes roughly five days to receive a penalty notice - so either the driver received ~20 in five days, or kept speeding after receiving the notice.

Might also have changed address and not told the DVLA - so wasn't receiving the notices.

    @Frenchy: ah, missed that bit.

Although a speed camera would flash so the driver should know they've been caught?

Rear wheel nudged by the driver behind at the roundabout at the top of London Road. Literally just as I was thinking about how I hadn't seen any bad driving on my commute. Was pretty sure it was gentle enough to not even put the wheel out of true so just gesticulated wildly and went to work.

    "nudged"

That's like "clipped" isn't it? One of those actions that means something very different when it's a motor vehicle doing it.

The driver who swung the tail of his lorry out, while turning left out of Westfield Ave (by Wickes) this morning, and completely wiped out the traffic lights. (Leaving the Grant Westfield plant)

There was a juddering rumbling sound, then the driver slowed a bit, then just drove off. Just as well there weren't any pedestrians on the island.

Tales of woe (Radio Scotland) of drivers taking three hours for '20 minute journeys' on the motorway.

And gritters get stuck in the traffic.

    People were warned (constantly).

Sometime we (all) expect things to 'just work' a bit too much - aka perpetual problem of 'not learning from the past'!

    "

One driver was charged for drink-driving, two were charged for having no insurance and one was charged for permitting someone to drive without valid insurance.

In addition, two vehicles were seized for no insurance, six vehicles were issued with prohibitions for serious defects, two drivers were advised about defects and two were issued with conditional offers of fixed penalty for no MOT.

The driver in a white Audi who accelerated through the red light at the bottom of Dalry Road. This was not "amber gambling", this was running a red light. There had been crowds of pedestrians crossing but he accelerated towards them anyway.

I had to pick something up from Princes Street last night so headed towards Haymarket to join the NEPN. Although I cycle on a daily basis, I normally avoid main roads as much as possible so am perhaps not accustomed to the poor driving standards any more, such as the five cars turning right onto Atholl Pl from Manor Pl when it is clear they are going block the box junction. Or the four cars who ran a clear red to turn right from Morrison St to Torphichen Pl.

This morning: flatbed lorry driver accelerated up Dewar Place to go through the red light. Round the corner on Morrison St arrived accelerated to go through the red light at the crossing outside the EICC.

Lunchtime: private hire driver KT06 HWV drove through the red light at the crossing outside Haymarket whilst staring at his phone.

I was waiting in the Tarvit Street ASZ this morning when a van pulled up almost alongside me. I turned around to give the driver a hard stare after looking pointedly at the ASZ on the ground but I don't think the driver took my point.

The numerous drivers who missed the huge yellow "road closed, access only" sign on Murieston Crescent yesterday and today. Having failed on observation, they did get to brush up their skills for three point turns.

I was driven at aggressively by two white vans from the same company Schindler around the foutainbridge area this morning. I am putting them on THe List

Maybe they thought I pedalled at them aggressively?

Riding up in the pentlands this early morning with a friend and sad to see the bottom gate at bonaly hill, and the top gate have been broken open by a vehicle (4x4 from the looks of tyre tracks and then the fence at the top of the hill by the reservoir has been driven over. Dirty tracks up and over the sides of the reservoir showed where they'd had their fun.

We fixed them closed as best we could with a couple cable ties, should keep the sheep in for a wee while, and we texted the farmer too.

    Such a shame.

Sounds bit unusual driving over the gates, I used to run the pentlands almost every day when unemployed, was possibly an emergency vehicle like army land rover.

Imagine that an emergency vehicle might have had bolt cutters on board? The chains holding this stuff are not exactly the most robust.

The one at the bottom had the gateposts torn from the foundations.

Also hoping that an emergency vehicle wouldn't have stopped to do some muddy hill climb practice up the side of the bonaly reservoir...

If you are correct then they owe the farmer some money...

    Went for a lunchtime ride - wished I hadn't...

Close passed and pulled in on before he was clear of me by Lothian Bus SN11ECW on Colinton Rd past Dreghorn Barracks - utterly pointless, I was still right behind him when he pulled in to stop before Redford Rd. Attempted to give him a piece of my mind while passing...

    Then the police van episode

To top it off, on the descent of Colinton Rd coming up to Craiglockhart shops, a wee red car gave me all of, ooh, a foot space as it passed me very slowly. Again pointless as within 10 seconds I was alongside it at the cars queued at the pedestrian crossing, where with the help of extravagant gestures I attempted to communicate to the woman inside how close she had been and how angry I was about it. Something must have gotten through as she didn't attempt to pass me again before the roundabout.

Think I'll just sit in the office and get fat future lunchtimes and become a burden on the NHS, it's the government-mandated way and clearly 'safer'.

2 red light jumpers in one cycle of the Roseburn Street, Roseburn Terrace intersection. One went at great speed, really well into redlightland & was nearly sided by someone heading west along the A8, who tooted loudly. Then next time the lights went red, someone else jumped the lights.

There's a bi tail back on Russell Road, I'd guess because of the Dalry Road repairs & I suppose people are getting impatient.

Where to begin? Amongst the myriad close passes and futile overtakes, three idiots stand out this afternoon:

Exhibit A: Young Jack-the-lad type (close cropped hair, souped up hatchback) drag racing along Rossie Place; nearly crashes into oncoming vehicle due to slalom around double-parked cars; then realises it's a cup-de-sac, screeches to a halt; U-turn; accelerates back the way as I observe he is staring at his smartphone... (Disapproving shake of head).

Witness B: Pointless overtake by white urban tank driver who enters bus lane just ahead of me. The reason? A car in front turning right, holds the white urban 4x4 driver up for all of 2 seconds. But no, MUST OVERTAKE. Only to join a tailback 50 yards further on. (Slow hand clap).

Plonker C: A macho guy (complete with hooded top on head and shades) in a turbo-charged German saloon, spots a stretch of open road and guns his engine to accelerate to 40+ in a 30 zone on Porty Rd. Acting as if he's Jason Statham in one of the Transporter movies. His little episode ends quickly though as there's a tailback 200 yards ahead, forcing him to brake. (Bonus idiot points for being so pathetic).
