White van swerves into the bus lane at high speed to undertake the vehicle in front, belching soot. I have to scatter in fear of death.

Caught the boy up 200m later of course.

'Aye, but youse are all weaving about.'

'There is no 'youse', just you and me.'

    'You shouldnae be undertaking!'

'If you want to discuss the law I'll call the police. Have you been drinking?'

Guy pipes right down. There was a faint vodka smell above the smoke. Maybe should have called them.

This morning at the Gilmore Pl, Viewforth lights, I'm eastbound, going straight behind a car. Driver turning right into Viewforth didn't look, revved and started to turn into my path. I managed to pull off some kind of disappointed/WTF grimace, which coincided with them stopping, but they clearly completely failed to observe oncoming traffic there.

Also another three unnecessary close passes between the Polwarth rbt and King's junction in the morning, and a very close undertake/pass at a very high speed at home time, as I waited to turn right in the middle of the Polwarth Terrace/Gray's Loan junction, with child passenger.

Tonight's episode brought to you by Hyslops Transport, who failed to see me, my photon cannon, other front flasher, acres of florescent jacket or the ridiculous fluorescent over-socks.

Fortunately I did see him and his complete inability to stop as he piled into the roundabout at the bottom of Craighall Rd, which I was traversing.

All very well being extremely apologetic after the fact, esp if there's an arctic on top of you.

It's the ones you don't see that you have to worry about.

Parking in an active cycle lane literally sending children into the path of cars.

    https://youtu.be/GaIg-SMIbEY

Pulled off the manouvre like a pro thankfully, but that spot outside Tesco on Causewayside is just always filled with cars. In desperate need of more enforcement.

"Cherished" plate and hazard flashers = I don't have to obey the law. Obviously.

Character the other day on Leven Street approaching the infamous Gilmore Place/Tarvit Street junction, decides to pull in to the bus stop just before the Scotmid. (You know bus stops? Those convenient stopping places that are inconveniently marked "no stopping at any time except buses"? One of those.) Said character had apparently failed to clock the bus immediately behind him (I know, they're so difficult to see, aren't they?) as he began to execute his manoeuvre (whatever happened to "mirror, signal"...oh, never mind.)

Upon being alerted to the presence of the bus by a blast on the horn from the bus driver, character then pulls out very carefully, goes round van illegally parked on the red lines and stops alongside the black mega-wheelie bin outside the Scotmid to drop off his passenger. Thus still obstructing the bus lane - but it was OK 'coz he had his flashers on, innit.

What's not clear is how this person was apparently utterly unable to register the fact that the spacious loading bay in front of the Scotmid, just beyond the mega-wheelie bin and so mere feet ahead of him was completely unoccupied.

    And breathe...

I found myself cycling on Dundee Street this morning for the first time since the canal towpath closure due to the fact that after I had carried my bike over the lift bridge (which was closed for some kind of maintenance rather than for letting a boat through), I'd spotted that there was a lifting unit being driven at about a metre a minute along the towpath just to the west, with a huge queue of people having to wait behind it. Dundee Street was surprisingly quiet, although that didn't stop the driver of a Mercedes blasting past me after I delayed them at the pinch point.

Finally recieved a reply to my Lothian Buses complaint:

'Thank you for your email regarding the driver of the service 45.

Firstly, please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I was concerned by your comments and have passed this matter on to the drivers line manager for their attention and appropriate investigation to be carried out. We carry out regular and extensive training with our driver’s with the aim to provide a high quality service. It is always disappointing to hear of anyone having a bad experience with one of our employees.

When any member of staff fails to meet the high standards we expect, depending on the incident and where merited, staff may be subject to remedial or expanded training by our Driving Standards Authority recognised Training School; with further disciplinary action taken when necessary.

Please once again accept my apologies and may I thank you for taking the time to contact us.'

I'd be surprised if they still have any on-board footage.

Close passed within putative touching distance on Angle Park Terrace. Compounded by the following aggravating factors:

    (i) to get to a red light within 10's of metres
(ii) by a left hand drive car (surely driving position should make judging horizontal distance easier)
(iii) no attempt whatsover to cross white line or deviate
(iv) driver & passenger attempted to deny & deflect when I protested at the lights

Last bad close pass was by a French-registered car on the open roads near Pitlochry so I seem to be encountering a temporary LHD risk factor.

As I was waiting to turn right from the ASZ at the King's Theatre Junction, a 23 bus turned right from Home Street a little too tightly for my liking, which caused me to involuntarily lean to the left as the rear end swept past me. I haven't quite decided whether or not to complain about it yet.

  11. complain. the bus' CCTV will show whether he cut the junction or not

Driver turned left out of a parking space in Morrison's car park on Gilmerton Road, as I was cycling along the road(?) they were pulling into, so I had to brake sharply to avoid cycling into the back of their car. I stopped to ask them why they hadn't looked right before pulling out.

    "I did look."
    "Did you see me?"
"Yes, but I thought you were stopping for me."

They did not look right. Even if they had, "Oh, it's a cyclist, they'll stop for me" is so arrogant a thought process that there will not be a prize for guessing the make of car.

@jdanielp - two weeks is about the going rate for Lothian Buses getting back to you. I don't know for sure, but I think they pull the CCTV from the bus when they receive a complaint, and then there is a delay in replying for other reasons. I hope this is the case, anyway. I know that if it is not pulled within 3-4 days, it will be lost.

@Frenchy "They did not look right". I first read that in a different way than you meant but I think my interpretation works just as well.

Polwarth Terrace eastbound, I'm going past parked cars approaching the traffic island outside Scotmid (for those who don't know, this is a pinch point where the road bends right before going up a slope where it widens again). I'm holding the lane to avoid the door zone and prevent overtaking before the traffic island, but a white car still aggressively revs and overtakes into the gap between me and the island, forcing me to swerve left quite hard after the parked cars. Never nice to be bullied in this way but sometimes standing your ground just doesn't feel safe. But utterly pointless because (a) the road is wide enough to overtake safely immediately after the bend (b) some, erm, inconsiderate driver parked badly on approach to the King's junction, creating a bottleneck before the lights, so in the end I cleared the junction before the overtaker.

was brought to you by Jack Frost driverists failing to scrape their car windows. First in Murray Field I saw an XC90 grind to a halt in middle of the road. Yes they had veered right and were straddling the centre line. As I went past I not see the driver inside the car as the windscreen and side windows were so frozen.

Second more serious incident on Baird Drive when and small red car with frozen rear windows reversed out into my path. Apparently did not see me. Probably true due, to the frozen windows. Not a valid excuse.

Another day, another close pass on Mayfield Road on approach to KB.

I'm going to start experimenting with detouring via Blackbarony Road instead.

Driver tooted then tailgated, then undertook whilst shouting and gesticulating.

Apparently I shouldn't be in the outside lane (FYI Princes Street)

At the next lights I came alongside. Despite him being angry with me being in the outside lane, he'd remained on the inside!

The shouting and swearing ramps up. It ramps to the extent where he is involuntarily spitting all over himself. I really thought he was going to get out and get physical. Unbelievable rage, hate and anger.

Then it ramped up again! He claimed to recognise me. he knew my route (or a good bit of it!) He also falsely claimed I cycle through the bus gate at West Maitland Street every day, but that was neither here nor there by then. As was his driving considerably over the 20mph limit.

Still a bit shaken I may have been deliberately targeted. He has been reported.

    207 - STAY WELL CLEAR!

    To licensing or the police?

@Frenchy I use Ross Road rather than Blackbarony Road - this is because it's easier to turn left down Mayfield Road and then into the turn right space into Max Born Crescent. The main downside is the continual reminders of the ineffectiveness of speed limits without enforcement.

@ECT must be worth reporting. The driver clearly has anger issues

Clearly the "enagegement with the taxi industry" on tram line safety has been as successful as anticipated.

    Definitely report that.

    emailed licensing

Last time I did this, it got lost in the system somewhere, and when i chased it up, a police officer got back to me saying that it's best just to report directly to the police.

@amir - That makes sense, thanks. I'd probably have realised this the first time I tried using Blackbarony Road.

email the licensing people, always need to follow-up but I'm sure that's the best way.
