The idiot in the light coloured saloon or maybe estate SL17 HFD who overtook me way too fast and close on Craighouse Gardens just now. I caught up at the junction with Craighouse Road and possibly for the first time ever attempted to gesticulate for the window to be wound down so I could have a word. He studiously ignored me. Eventually I have up and moved ahead in the queue. I was then unsurprised to be passed again, even faster this time because I was going at 20+ mph, at the bottom of the hill. I was taking primary, but pulled in towards the pavement just in case as I heard the vehicle approaching, and gesticulated in a ruder fashion than before as he overtook. I caught and passed him again soon after that at the junction with Colinton Road, choosing to ignore him this time... I'm pleased to say that he was then unable to catch up again before I reached the canal.

Road just outside Dalkeith, this morning. Double solid white lines, blind corners, oncoming traffic.

    And still they overtake.

i really miss turning right on red. so efficient.

@the canuck That's quite alright: Canadian people always get a pass because they're so nice and polite :)

i swore loudly at a pedestrian the other day, who decided that when our light turned green was a good time for him to suddenly walk in front of us. he may disagree. but he was foreign too, so hopefully he thought i was glaswegian.

Close pass with horn blast by a young lady in a big blue faux-by-four heading down Broughton Street. Caught her at the lights of course.

I was 'dancing around the road and stopping her from overtaking'.

    20mph zone's working out well, isn't it?

Had to stop on Bruntsfield Road to let an overtaking faux-by-four avoid the pedestrian island it was heading straight towards. Caught her up at the lights and gave her a sign of my disdain.

Cos it's always a green man, except when it's not. Which is the opposite of the other stage of that crossing. They're never green together.

    (These might all be factors.)

...almost collected a runner who crossed the road without looking despite my blinking lights - if i was a car he would be squished, so why he decided to hurl me some abuse i dont know, i did the 2 fingers to the eyes move, again more abuse.
    sigh.

Yes but where was the rubbish driving?-)

On the way back from work a bus overtook on the corner going up to east Calder not to close but wondered if someone had came would have moved in fast.

I was cycling slowly today as seemed slipy I see the danger of slow cycling no one waits so more close passes. I will need to get some winter tyres ordered.

When I cycled back from Callander yesterday was ice patches at the side of the road some frozen puddles. There seems to be excessive traffic today.

So eastbound on West Coates there are some roadworks in the bus lane immediately after a bus stop. This morning I was cycling along in the bus lane, less than a bus length from the roadworks, about to look round to see if it was okay to pull out. Then all of a sudden there was an airport bus* right in front of me, pulling into the bus stop. I had to slam on my brakes, almost fell off my bike, and then reverse to get round him. Fortunately the cars stuck behind him (because the stupid bus was blocking both lanes) happily let me out rather than trying to overtake the bus. Grrrr.

He must have seen me. I have 3 red lights on the back of my bike (one flashing), was wearing a reflective bag cover, and he didn't actually run me over. What an idiot.

*It was blue. May have been a first bus but fairly sure it was an airport bus.

@claire3000006 All the Lothian buses running to the airport have been rebranded blue. That would have been an Airlink 100 service. Complain via https://lothianbuses.co.uk/customer-services/contact-customer-services

I don't think I have enough details to complain... Didn't hang around to check the registration number and I'm not even sure what the exact time was. I'll remember that for next time. (Although hopefully there will not be a next time. Generally Lothian buses have been very considerate in this exact location recently, hanging back and extra 5 seconds so I can get out of their way.)

Shouldn't matter. There can only be a few possible buses, and they should check the CCTV on each of them to figure it out.

Not really 'ruibbish driving, but I had to ride Fountainmbridge-cowgate-holyrood at high speed this morning in dark and rain. So unpleasant. No one did anything really bad (just as well, or I'd have been a goner), but the entire ride was terrifying.

In a right turn 'island' 'protected' by hashed areas, on the A701, indicating right and moving to the right hand side preparing to stop to give way to oncoming traffic

    cyclist coming the other way.

two cars overtake the oncoming cyclist driving head on towards me in the right turn box at 30 mph+. I have to do an emergency stop in the middle of the A701 with traffic whizzing past either sides of me.

worst thing they saw me coming and committed to the overtake anyway. Expletive deleted. one of those moves you are still angry about 12 hours later.

in the dark. in the rain.

New commute involves more sets, and it's really noticeable how little drivers understand that the surface means my line might have to change. Or that sets in the wet are sometimes slippy. Hardly anyone gives me a comfortable amount of space.

Which reminds me of the two idiots who close passed me on the right as I was in the middle of the road signalling right to go up Gloucester Street from Kerr Street the other night. That wasn't pleasant.

Road is closed (going west, down the hill) at the bottom of Granton Rd just before the Granton Sq roundabout for a short 50m section.

I was going from the roundabout up the hill, realised once I was in it, that it was contraflow. Only one lane open, everything else coned off etc... large BMW comes towards me, flashing lights "get out of the way'. I assumed I'd missed the traffic lights in my haste to exit the roundabout safely.

Once through the 'contaflow' turned round to see it was actually road closed - the BMW and other where just deciding to ignore it. Charming.

Range Rover blowing through a red light at a ped/cycle crossing. After all, the 3 cars ahead of him went through, so why not him? That they went through on green and yellow is naught.

i was tempted to move out into the road, just to freak him out. but i love my bike, so, no.

This morning close passed by three cars who couldn’t wait three seconds for the other lane to clear and overtake safely. Not even the occupied tagalong gave them pause for thought. Sometimes I don’t understand people.

Was just in a cab at the front of the queue to go from Morrison St to Bread St. lights wouldn't go green. eventually all the cars just went (cautiously). what an odd experience.

@edintravel twitter says the junction's moving normally now.

My presence was completely ignored by someone entering the south Ocean Terminal roundabout last night at some speed from the west. I'd slowed enough to not be hit and also ended up in just the right place to yell at their window as they went past - their surprise was clear.

I had a close one this morning - probably for the same reason as lots of people will - drivers setting off without clearing their windows. I followed said driver and let them know (politely) that they'd almost knocked me off when they set off. They were at least very apologetic once they'd put the phone down.

Just dropped kids at school and was heading down to the main road- a car was coming up to a T junction and indicating left to join my road. I was halfway across the junction(i.e. next to her lane) and she put the foot down and went for it - had to slam on brakes on a ungritted icy road and luckily stayed upright.

I think I had a sixth sense that something wasn't right as she came up so am glad I did pay particular attention.

Shame, as apart form that it was a beautiful ride in today.

Some spoon in a fancy black merc close-passing me up the hill to the lights at Circus Place/Howe Street. When I pulled up beside him - nose of car pushed way over the white line, naturally - he was totally intent on writing what I suspect from the length was an email on his phone. I waved and caught his eye just before he pulled away. Can't say he seemed to understand what I was gesturing at...

Had the worst close pass from a bus driver I've ever had this afternoon. Lothian bus going up Gilmerton Road, just before the Robin's Nest. The bus was easily within touching distance; terrifying.

I think this is the third time I've felt the need to complain about a Lothian bus driver on Gilmerton Road in as many months.

Yesterday discovered how to work the speed limiter on the car.
Drove from Stockbridge, up Mound all the way down Causewayside to Liberton Brae, then onwards to bypass at the requisite 20 or 30mph. Back again today.

wow - people are $#%#@&^$. Total of 8 overtakes in the 20mph sections, number of flashes / beeps & one pull alongside and abuse.

    Lovely.
