  1. Driver of a KB Refrigeration van at Haymarket this morning.

I set off smartly at the green light towards the station, adjusted my position at the refuge to cross the tracks, he attempts an overtake! Thankfully he braked sharply at my right arm being stuck out.

He then stayed on my wheel through the first part of the roadworks, revving as much as he could.

I responded by cycling really slowing in primary through the last part to west coates.

Instead of parting our ways as two lanes emerged again, he decided it was a good idea to just drive alongside me!

He shouted that I'd just cycled alongside him and gone in front of him at the bike box. I agreed and told him thats what the cycle lane and bike box were designed for. He informed me I was very wrong and had to wait my turn. By now we were past donaldsons and traffic behind him was peeping him!

He then made a further point by then pulling in front of me and continuing his journey in the bus lane. Until I overtook him approaching Roseburn.

The deep anger in his face was something to behold. Veins protruding, spitting on himself. Really deranged behavior. Very glad it wasn't a quiet country road or I'd perhaps be in a ditch.

"He then made a further point by then pulling in front of me and continuing his journey in the bus lane."

In a world with true karmic justice he'd get a fine through the post for driving in the bus lane...

@ECT I call them "Filter Hulk". People who get so upset by cyclist filtering that all rational thought leaves them. All they can see is the cyclist, all they can think is overtake.

Tailgated all the way along Robert Burns Drive by the driver of a Royal Mail van this afternoon. Lots of engine revving, which of course makes me slow down since I need to pay attention to what's behind me as well as what's in front of me.

Aye, it's been very pleasant until today. This was possibly the first time I'd encountered another vehicle on it. Cheers!

Red Renault Clio SM13 GME going up the slope in Polwarth Gardens absolutely could not wait for an oncoming car to pass so passed me very closely. The driver treated other cars no better, bullying his way onto the mini-roundabout only to park in the roundabout itself, by the railings outside the pharmacy.

Smallish dark-blue-ish car's driver failing to spot me in the bus lane on London Road despite having spent a minute with me one foot away from them at the end of Brunton Terrace whilst we waited for a space. They were trying to swerve into me to get round something turning right into Hillside Crescent.

"The oncoming lane is empty, but why don't I see just how close I can get to this cyclist as I overtake them?"

Another "I'll just ignore the cyclist and pull out" emerging vehicle from one of the roads off Montgomery Street.

Nice law-abiding drivers run over a woman then continue to run over her body as she lies there. :-(

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-42322526

A woman killed in a hit-and-run in south London was "just left to die".
The victim was hit by four vehicles on a pedestrian crossing on South Circular Road at 06:48 GMT on Monday. None of the drivers stopped, police said.

Sunday night, heading west on St John's Road. I'm in the middle of the lane and signaling right as I'm about to move into the turn lane for Victor Park Terrace. There's a car a fair way back behind me as I do this - so of course instead of waiting two seconds till the lane is clear straight ahead they floor it and overtake me on the right, missing my outstretched arm by centimetres, then have to pull hard to the right to go round the crossing island on the correct side of the road.

Much swearing from me, but they won't have seen my hand gestures as they hadn't bothered to defrost their rear window.

Slap bang in the middle of a pelican crossing using his phone. Then proceeds up the road still staring at his phone.
    9 points I think?

In a rare afternoon of winter daylight cycling I hadn't bothered to put my camera on after stopping at a shop and subsequently missed the minibeemer trying to overtake through the pillar of the rail bridge on Russell Road and the post office van not connecting my position in the right-hand lane at the Haymarket end of Dalry Road with wanting to end up in the right-hand lane of West Maitland Street.

Clearly the thing to do when you come across a vulnerable road user on a fast road in black ice conditions is to tail gate them, beep your horn then shout at them as you pass. It's in one of the appendices to the Highway Code.

Lots of queuing traffic on Colinton road. Their road positioning is completely mad. Not really sure why. I wonder if people swing out to the left and right wildly to see what the traffic is doing ahead. Alternate theory is they're on their phones and barely aware of the road at all, just waiting for the lights in front of them to move once more.

I think that is Edinburgh Driver Ego positioning. "One lane for my car and one lane for my sense of entitlement"
It is therefore impossible for them to ever take up fewer than two lanes at any one time.

Driver of Black VW Touareg NJZ 3426 watching TV on a mobile propped up on his dashboard at the bottom of Chambers Street. He claimed he wasn't watching it, he was just listening to it, despite the fact I just saw him watching it.

Classic last night. Young lady pulled out of @unhurt's place of work through a gap in the stationary traffic. I think someone waved her out. Straight into my path, anchors on, luckily I had grip.

Chatted to her at the next lights. Agreed that despite the hi-viz and 500 lumen front light we can be hard to see and her extra effort next time would be appreciated.

    Classic smidsy for me today.

I'm heading along George IV towards the mound. Spot a high end SUV heading opposite direction turning, keep an eye on it, bingo. charges straight into bus lane in front of me (despite there being plenty of room to turn in main lane), so that he can then drive fully - all four wheels - onto the pavement AND block the drop in front of GandV hotel. Liveried driver trying to look like posh factor on the Duke of whoever's estate. refused to roll down window, but eventually realised I was going to stay there and piund on it until he did. removed headphones; posh voice; 'i didn't see you'. ARGH.

only victory on my part was that pedestrians on pavement/trying to cross road were giving him dubious looks.

i was shaking too much to get out my phone and take pictures of him. didn't trust myself not to drop bike and make a fool of myself.

several more fun obstructions as I went down the mound.

    nightmare.

I cycled home from Waverley at around 1am last night. The standard of driving on show was even worse than normal, I presume because drivers know they're even less likely to be seen by a police officer. We had:

Driver going through traffic lights around 5s after they'd changed to red.

Tailgating on approach to red lights.

    Complete disregard for ASLs.

Driving the wrong way down a one way street, and then impolite hand gestures when this was pointed out.

MGIF when I was signalling right, with oncoming traffic.

    etc.

And, earlier in Glasgow, someone wheelspinning their car sideways round the corner in a busy central area (from Gordon St to Mitchell St).

Hallelujah re the charging. I hope the boy in question is fine and able to enjoy Xmas.

"A SCHOOLBOY escaped with minor injuries after being involved in a sickening rush hour collision with a car on Colinton Road. The 13-year-old boy was rushed to the Royal Infirmary after he was struck by a Citroen car as he attempted to use a pedestrian crossing. Emergency services arrived on the scene at around 8.10am and the road was closed in both directions between Craiglockhart Avenue and Polwarth but has since reopened. Police have charged the drivers of both the Citroen and a parked lorry. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to Colinton road at around 8.10am on Monday, December 18 following a collision between a silver Citroen car, travelling eastbound, and a pedestrian. “A 13-year-old boy was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a precaution and the road was closed in both directions, from Craiglockhart Avenue to Polwarth, until around 8.45am. “The male driver of the Citroen and the male driver of an arctic lorry, which was parked on the eastbound carriageway, have been charged in connection with this and issued with a fixed penalty ticket.” An eyewitness said the driver of the car had his view of the crossing obscured by a delivery lorry, adding: “It was a horrible thing to see, I’m just glad the young boy is okay.” “It happened really quickly, the driver was not going fast, but the boy was not able to get out the way in time and he went over the windshield. “The driver looked really shaken up. I don’t think he could see the kid step out onto the road because of the lorry parked over one side of the crossing.”

Dear driver of car with license plate SG09 MYL,

If you put your phone away whilst driving, you might be able to pay attention to what's outside of your vehicle. This might mean that you see that the traffic lights are red before you drive through them.

    Just a thought.

    Best regards,
    Frenchy

@Murun Buchstansangur cycled past the aftermath of this. The windscreen of the car was completely smashed, so that's a pretty robust kid if he's only got minor injuries.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We wish the schoolboy a speedy recovery. We take the safety of our customers, colleagues and other road users extremely seriously and we will work with the authorities as part of a review into what lessons can be learned.”

Great. Has anyone got any ideas?
