Yesterday, standing at bus stop on Western Approach Road, above the Telfer subway on the south side.

Sudden roaring and two motocross bikes appear having ridden along the ramp to the bus-stop. We at the bus stop jump and cower in the bus shelter. Guys roar past us and drop on to the WAR. Dunno if they came down the ramp from Dundee Street or up under the subway.

    Call for chicanes all round....

Close pass on Rose St, as I as disguised as a pedestrian; I chapped on the side of the van.

Left hook from car this morning at the petrol station just before the Bike Station, matches up nicely with the right hook/SMIDGAF yesterday at the same entrance.

    Quality Bike Corridor indeed...

An Eagle Courier thinking that their van really needed to be on the wrong side of the road to get past a bunch of cyclists going from West Maitland to Torphichen streets this morning. The cyclists were going quite slowly to begin with as they were letting pedestrians get clear of the crossing. The van's number plate should be on my camera.

Two dangerously close passes by successive cars just after the traffic island in Gilmore Place. As usual caught up with both of them at the King's junction.

The standard of driving in the city centre during the day is consistently horrible.

The driver in front of me stopped to park halfway round the corner from Bristo Place to Lothian Street earlier. Thankfully the driver behind stopped to let me out.

Taxi driver pulled a MGIF on Chalmers Street, then drove clean into the ASL box. When politely reminded that motor vehicles are supposed to be stopped before the first red line, he gave a sarcastic "Yes, officer". Hope three points on his license is worth it VRN not visible from my camera.

The driver reversing their car down the MMW cycle lane onto the junction of the paths as I was turning left from NMW a little after 5 pm today.

@chdot (2 days ago): They don't always get away with it, even in Essex. I wonder if the fact that the footage was captured by a fine, upstanding member of the motoring public had anything to do with the bizzies taking more of an interest on this occasion? (The article does mention the assault on Wolf Simpson, and contrasts it to this one.)

I note that Ashley Merrett, of Mumford Close, in West Bergholt has yet to be sentenced. I'm tempted to check again in February to see how the beak manages to convince himself to hand down a suspended sentence for this.

Update: Also discussed in this article in the Guardian.

    From Guardian link -

    "

The government recognised this back in May 2014, when then justice secretary Chris Grayling (now transport secretary) announced there would be a complete review of all road traffic offences and sentencing. Almost four years on, we are still waiting for the review.

A cycle safety review is scheduled for the new year, which promises to look at cycling offences as well as other measures to make cycling safer. However, if the government is truly serious about protecting all road users, then it would make sense for this review to sit within a wider review aimed at protecting all road users, not just targeting one type.

I believe the official answer is that the WS footage did not clearly show the driver ramming him. It only clearly showed the initial head-on punishment pass and the punching in the face which the driver also admitted to. Both perfectly acceptable things to do obviously. In fact I am surprised they haven't charged WS with scratching the car.

Inrix chief economist Dr Graham Cookson said: “Drivers would be well advised to take alternative routes or avoid driving during peak times altogether.”

Every evening, and all day at weekends often, private hire vehicles and delivery drivers parked on both sides of Marchmont Road in the cycle lanes just North of the pedestrian crossing. Encouraged by a small number of fast food takeaways no doubt. Ignored by police and traffic wardens. A particular pain when heading South (ie uphill) as you have to weave around them slowly and there are crossing points nearby.

Another very close pass in Polwarth Gardens in the morning, I swear the drivists are getting increasingly mental. But less dangerous probably than the champ cutting the blind corner in Lower Gilmore Place going eastbound at considerable speed at home time. As I went round the corner I was probably cycling slightly faster than is advisable in that location but at least I was on the correct side of the road. I was lucky the cyclist in front wasn’t just a bit closer or I wouldn’t have had much space for my evasive action.

A whistleblower who works for a third-party delivery firm contracted at Bathgate condemned Amazon’s “ruthless” approach, which has left drivers frazzled by long hours and even crashing vans as they desperately try to finish their rounds.

have been musing recently if we could turn this thread into something with a geospatial counterpart

reason being Ragingbike's recent legal outrage at the junction above dean bridge, where i also have issues daily, i know there are youtube vids out there of incidents at this same location but they aren't semantically connected

if we can plot this stuff geospatially it might help in the long term

    discuss

That may seen like a small reduction, but with the road safety problem getting worse, it seems to be a move in the wrong direction.

Police officer turning right at Gilmerton crossroads without indicating. I considered the "Your indicators aren't working, by the way" thing, but didn't think I'd be likely to catch them up.

Lack of enforcement = bad driving/parking

Unfortunately the police don't seem to get this

This eve I took primary under railway bridge on Lanark Road before taking the awkward left turn up past Slateford Station.

This resulted in two car drivers blaring their horns at me, one of whom added I was a "f*****g a******e".

I wish both of them as much peace, goodwill & understanding over the holidays & the rest of their lives as they showed to me this evening!

@wishicouldgofaster: Unfortunately the police don't seem to get enough money to be able to resource this

    Fixed that for you.

But all that's required, as Saint Teresa the Mendacious told them, is for them to "do more with less". A lesson she seemed unable to learn herself in June this year, when her solution was to magic up £1B in order to give her a working majority. Funny how these things only have to apply to other people...

Alex dowsett's head on near miss has certainly sparked a reaction. Quite a few pros had bad injuries from being driven into this year. Very sadly a young Australian pro also killed. Though as you can tell from the reaction to Alex on Twitter there is a lot of it about.
