@dougal - Thanks. I think, given the situation, I was positively zenlike :)

Another drivist polishing the ice up our hill this morning. Front wheels spinning away, managing to make progress at about 1mph. Nearly didn't make it past a parked car on his side of the road, though - strangely enough his vehicle seemed rather sluggish to respond to steering input.

@frenchy I may have slapped the side of the bus a little as I passed to emphasise the point?

Going up Gilmerton Road, not using the cycle lanes for fear of hitting some black ice. Most drivers react reasonably well to this, overtaking either with plenty of space or relatively slowly.

Then the driver of a black Audi passes fast and close whilst sounding the horn. I may have let slip more than the usual number of swear words, and they stop, wind the window down and before they can shout at me that I was "in the middle of the road!", I shout "THE BIKE LANE'S COVERED IN ICE". The instant demeanour change was actually comical, which almost made up for them playing fast and loose with my life.

ejstubbs, yes that sounds right. I would suggest that unless you are performing an emergency stop then if you are applying the brakes to the point where abs kicks in then you are pressing the pedals too hard (both accelerator and brake).

There are videos available which illustrate that controlled braking with ABS enabled is better than uncontrolled braking without ABS.

Despite the large quantities of tabard-people still loafing around the Leith Street cone infestation there somehow managed to be a large demolition truck being driven north towards the cyclists and cars who had just received a green light southbound, in the apparent absence of a competent banksperson. The exit/entrance to the destruction zone was blocked by an identical truck, so the moving one had to shuffle about a bit to make space for the vehicles heading to Greenside. Unfortunately not recorded, but I'll try and fine someone to complain at anyway.

Grumpy about Borders Buses again. Enough to tweet!

"Anyone else find @BordersBuses drivers tailgate bikes in town? Also tend to pass closely and pull in/out immediately on signaling. Getting very wary of them on the Bridges: Penicuik bus felt far too close this AM. Contrast w/standard of @on_lothianbuses driving pretty marked."

Its usually not QUITE bad enough to complain, but I'm always very aware that they're far more likely to squeeze me into the kerb or feel worryingly close on my back wheel. Or is it just me?

Are they the boxy wee mint-green ones? They're a little bit heel-nippy along Regent Road and around the Balmorals.

Even in a built up area with working streetlights drivers are not expected to look for anything other than red lights. If he'd had one I expect it would be deemed "too small/dim/wrong shade of red".

Guy driving a faux by four with one wheel on the pavement straight at me here.

Just stared him down and he gave me a 'what else can I do the road isn't wide enough for my vehicle' gesture.

I've heard of forgetful parkers, abandoned vehicles too, but this takes the biscuit:

Cars found trapped in Edinburgh’s ‘robot car park’ 15 years on

Have you seen the comment from James Cairns? He claims that the cars found in there belonged to the operating company (that he used to work for, and that went bust) and were used to test the automatic parking system. So not really rubbish parking - unfortunately, because it rather spoils the story!

Confirmed in my conviction that the rain brings out the absolute worst in drivers. Went onto the towpath precisely to avoid the roads and still received four extremely close passes, including one by a lorry, in not 400 yards of road in total.

Before the rain started - one punishment pass with horn from white van man who objected to me making him wait for a safe place to pass.
It seemed busier than usual - but I was running a bit late so that might be all.

If he had been given three extra points, it would have pushed him closer to having 12 points, which can lead to a six-month ban.

    Aye...

Re the Lotus chief executive - according to the guidelines in force in E&W, for 102mph in a 70 zone, he should have received either 6pts license endorsement or an up-to-56 day disqualification. I believe magistrates are instructed/encouraged to select the most punishing option - given he already had 8pts on his license, 6 more would have taken him over 12 and he should have received a 'totting' ban of 6 months.

Real sentence - 30 day ban.

He received a fine of £666 (apt, some might say), presumably reduced by 1/3rd for his guilty plea, suggesting a start point of £1000. From the link above, he should have had a Band C fine of 150% of weekly post-tax income, which would imply weekly income of £666, or annually, £34,632. This equates to a pre-tax salary of £46,300.

So are we expected to believe Jean-Marc Gales manages Lotus Cars (turnover: £79million pa) for less than 50k per year or were the magistrates incredibly lenient on the financial penalties as well??

Having spoken with the driver, police have determined that no crime was committed.

Interesting absence of a sentient vehicle there. Perhaps they're only sentient when a crime has been committed.

Saw a hearse driver texting at the wheel earlier. Hopefully this habit doesn't ever lead to extra business...

...wow. How on earth was no-one killed or maimed? Clicked through and looked properly and there's a bit of barrier stuck right through the car.

Hopefully my camera caught the plate of the ChangeWorks recycling truck which looked like it was going to try hurtling directly from London Road to Picardy Place without slowing or stopping, through me. I slowed and turned parallel to it until the driver noticed he was approaching a junction and slowed.

Scary car crash. A bit like Robert kubica's accident. I thought that correctly installed crash barriers were designed to be impossible to hit head on, specifically to avoid that kind of accident.

On a bus in left lane on Western Approach Road. It braked a few yards before Morrison Crescent crossing. Someone in the right lane had opened their passenger door, to make a quick getaway.
