2 days ago an aggressive and unnecessarily close pass on the A70 after all of 3 seconds post-leaving the Moosehold. From John Brazil, Currie roofer. Other roofers are available (thankfully).

Again this morning, white SUV. Same location.

Confirmation-bias aside, why must the most unpleasant part of my commute be in my home stretch in Currie where all my unpleasant driver experiences seem to occur? My only way to avoid the A70/Lanark Road would be to pavement cycle my way to the join the WOL...

@moose, Elmsy, another Currie roofer is often on his bike, looks a bit like Oz golfer Greg Norman

Yesterday got tooted at for taking primary in Polwarth Terrace intending to turn right. Opposite lane was full so the driver clearly felt entitled to overtake by squeezing me into the gutter.

Mystery surrounds what caused the crash, with James in the car on his own at the time and no other vehicles involved.

Seems to be remarkably little interest in this from the police (maybe just not reported). Any likely cause of the accident should be investigated from a legal perspective. There was potential for multiple fatalities and injuries.

After another too-close-for-comfort MGIF on Brighton Place (followed by the inevitable "you were in the middle of the road" and "why are you not wearing a helmet?", of course) I decided to buy a camera. I feel like it's only a matter of time before I get hit.

Was mildly chuffed at getting a Fly 12 for £160, but see that it is now down to £150 on Wiggle/CRC, presumably because the newer version is available.

So much potential for misreporting in one single article:

“My mum was there as well and she was furious."... well he had just written of her (presumably) husband's car.

"Police and ambulance crews arrived while James said a breathalyser test was negative and the cruise control was set at 68mph in a 70mph zone."
Surely the police would be better placed to comment on that along with the state of eyelids/phone or potentially mechanical failure.

If I was the driver and genuinely had no idea what had happened then I would be the one pushing for answers. He seems more worried about the medical treatment which he originally declined.

I was shouted at and called a naughty word tonight because I didn't "stay between the lines".

Staying in the bike lane when there are cars parked in it is, unfortunately, not a skill I have mastered yet. Until then, I suppose I just have to put up with this abuse.

Cycled the length of Queen Street this morning and not once was I overtaken safely. The turnip prize goes to the van man who bullied me into the gutter while undertaking an HGV. Bloody hell.

That is one place I won't cycle and I'm reasonably hard-core. Mad Max meets the New Town.

Yeah I’m not that making that mistake again either. I’d considered George Street and decided it was too much of a faff for getting to York Place… I’ll stick to GS in the future.

"The cyclist in front of me is also turning right at the T-junction, so I'll pull up on their left then undertake them as we both make the turn. Oh, they're not happy about that. *Sounds horn*"

Apparent thought process of a taxi driver I encountered tonight.

Edit: phone mis-corrected "taxi" to "Tesco"

I was so preoccupied by my Queen Street adventures I forgot to complain about a similar incident earlier when I was almost undertaken and pushed into an unnecessarily shallow angle across the tram tracks going from Dalry Rd into West Maitland St. Apparently all this ‘Give cyclists space to turn across the tracks’ campaign isn’t quite getting through to everyone. Whodathunkit? Since there was no space to pass me once we did complete the turn the car tailgated me all the way to the Melville/Queensferry St junction.

Ah, that explains yesterday's tailbacks. Canal towpath was fine but lot of puddles

Older people in posh cars while riding about earlier on.

Worst one was a very close pass by a sporty BMW with an elderly couple in it overtook very close as I moved out to pass the multitude of cars parked outside the Kilted Pig on Colinton Road as you approach the pinch point. They were driving slowly (25mph?) as there was a bus ahead. Just completely oblivious that I was even there I think.

I saw them again performing a painful 3 point turn at the canal access on Craiglockhart road North. Again I sat there watching for about 4/5's of his 3point turn before he noticed I was there waiting for him to finish.

Very concerning complete lack of awareness.

    2 numpties this morning -
A white van overtook me on Craigleith Road leaving about a foot between us.

A car driver decided that it was OK to make me hammer on my breaks so she could take a right into Edinburgh Academy.

Lovely start to the morning. Turning right into SummerHall from Melville Drive and the car behind slows to overtake with a shake of the head and some advice I can't fathom. I decide to follow and catch her up.... eventually she deigns to open her window and let me know what advice she wished to impart without running away.

"You aren't even wearing a helmet and you're wobbling about all over the place".

I don't need to say anything further, but for the record, I wasn't wobbling - I have nothing against wobbling - some of my best friends wobble, but I wasn't wobbling.

White Van Man pulled out of parking space without looking or indicating, just as I was being overtaken on the other side. Not best impressed with being the panic filling in this ill-advised-manoeuvre sandwich.

I was turning right onto a main road which has a hatched area in the middle for people to wait in to turn right into the road I'm coming out of. I often pull into this area to make my right turn - there's plenty of space.

So I cross the first half of the road and then slow and start looking to my left for a space to join the traffic. The first approaching car goes past as I would expect. The driver of the car behind seems to be slowing but is not indicating so I wait to see what they will do. They flash their headlights at me, and by now I can see that the car has slowed right down, so I start to move off. At which point the driver indicates right and turns into the road I've just come out of.

IF YOU'D JUST USED YOUR INDICATORS LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO YOU WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO DO ALL THAT SLOWING DOWN AND FLASHING, YOU STUPID PERSON!!!!!

Really, really scary elbow-grazing pass by a big black SUV in Polwarth Gardens going uphill this morning. Slow and close, absolutely no reason not to move into the opposite lane, so likely a deliberate punishment, probably for taking primary through the pinch point/traffic island at Scotmid. Am actually still quite shaken.

Almost taken out by Voyages Cars Bleus autobus in the cowgate, the driver had been having troubles since st Mary street. Took very bad line just before grass market roundabout meaning I had to brake or get squished. He smiled at me as I pulled into the ASB at Lothian Rd. He is then stationary for about a minute at a pedestrian crossing in viewforth whilst the light is green. I am concluding they are lost. Confirmed at Start of Lanark road when they swing right down to Longstone.

Two stupid passes on Milton Road West (in the short distance between the junction with Willowbrae and turning down Duddingston Row) and then two more along Charterhall Road. One East Lothian bus, one BT OpenHatred van which turned right forty metres later, one NHS-liveried delivery truck and one private car. Should be on camera for reporting the it's-their-job people.

OK to throw alkali over cyclists now apparently. Certainly don't get jailed for it.
