"West End Skoda" liveried red "Yeti" car being driven in excess of 30 mph in the Slateford Road 20 zone this AM. In fairness, the driver wouldn't have been aware of this, unless it was a speedo app that he was looking at on his phone at the time.

Bear in mind that it could have been a courtesy car being driven by a customer, rather than one of the dealership staff.

Racer drivist in a red racer driving machine behind me turning right from the Harrison Road bridge onto Polwarth Gardens. Sensing trouble I held primary until the opposite lane was clear, then bore left inviting him to release his frustration at being held up for all of ten seconds, which he did with turbo aplomb. 20mph, what 20mph?

Was a few days ago, but a mention is surely due for the driver of the car which demolished the front garden wall belonging to a friend of mine - as well as causing substantial damage to three or four of her neighbours' properties into the bargain - after "swerving to avoid a fox at 20mph" on Grange Road.

From the 10 "surprising" driving offences article

    3. Driving with pets (fine: up to £5000)

Wow. Didn't know that was specifically illegal.

I've seen loads of people driving with dogs sitting on their laps recently...

Driver of a Jaguar X-Type went clean through a red light at the junction at the east end of Melville Drive. Slammed on the brakes and stopped just before the junction box.

@nedd1e_h: Wow. Didn't know that was specifically illegal.

It isn't. Like most of the "offences" listed in that article, it's something that you could potentially be done for under one of the generic offences like driving without due care. Same goes for splashing pedestrians, for example. People have been done for it, but the actual offence is simply a breach of section 3 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act.

It's not feasible to compile a list of all the things that you really shouldn't consider doing while behind the wheel of a moving motor vehicle - and if you tried, someone would inevitably manage to come up with yet another new and exciting way to act like a complete twunt as soon as you'd finished.

It comes back to the basic point that people are permitted to drive under licence, on the understanding that they do it sensibly. Unfortunately, the authorities seem unable effectively to proscribe the bounds of what is "sensible", given what some folks seem to be able to get away with.

Orange Van man decided that 2 lanes were not enough, so he'd just come on to the other side of the St John's Road into oncoming traffic (me).

Something in the air tonight. Gilmerton Road was uncommonly busy for an evening, and I got a week's worth of crap driving in the space of 20 minutes. Drivers failing to give way, bud driver cutting me off immediately after overtaking, someone vroom vroom vrooming into every ASL box, turning without indicating, etc. etc. etc.

The Fishponds resident, who runs a cleaning business, told the Bristol Post: “I just feel really gutted. I don’t think it’s fair I’m being penalised for something everyone does. There’s no difference between someone who drives at 70 or someone who drives at 26.

    Oh wow. She's expecting sympathy.

"“I do respect the 20mph limit but no one drives at that speed. It’s so hard to drive at that speed.

“It’s really disappointing. I feel the system isn’t there to help people like me.

People caught speeding can pay to attend a driver awareness course instead of having points added to their licence, but Ms Allan said she did not have this option as she was recently caught driving through a red light.

“I’ve never had a point on my licence and I’ve been driving eight years. Eight years of careful driving now I’m being penalised.

Some of these quotes expecting sympathy are indistinguishable from something from the daily mash.

Car with passenger window smashed and side all stove in at the bottom of Craighouse Hill just now. I assume due to someone's overestimation of their, or their car's, ability to handle the not entirely unpredictable conditions.

There's a rumour at work that if you have an accident when there's a red warning in force you aren't insured.

The rumour that insurance cover is not valid during red warnings has been dispelled by all insurers.

Certain online publications have sought traffic through misleading headlines.

    Certain things are factual...

    - THIRD PARTY cover will not insure your car against damage from snow/ice ...which ought to be obvious.
    - If you fail to de-ice your car such that your vision is obscured and you have an accident then your insurance company may contest a claim...but this is always the case, nothing to do with weather warnings.

clearly, someone needs to pass this on to the 20% of drivers i saw today, who seem able to see through snow-covered windows.

A guy bouncing his hatchback off the kerb repeatedly as he over-revved his very slow way up Old Dalkeith Road. I'm sure he'll get home eventually.

admitted to...overtaking at excessive speed on the wrong side of the road in the face of oncoming traffic.

He then drove off at speed whilst 65-year-old Mary Colville had her arm in his vehicle, causing her to be dragged along the ground to her injury before reversing at excessive speed [for about 100m].

Johnston also admitted to assaulting Mrs Colville by spitting in her face on Malcolm Street.

...he has regularly appeared in the dock for road rage offences....third road rage incident in the space of a year.

Banned from driving for 35 months!

A fifth of UK businesses say their employees have been involved in a crash while using a mobile phone while driving.

I pulled over a few times to let things past, seeing as they were probably trying to travel along the same sets of tyre tracks I was using, each time being disappointed at how close behind they were, considering how long it would take them to stop.

There was a van reversing down from Bank Street towards the Market Street exit in a way which suggested it couldn't go upwards and wasn't looking behind it for pedestrians or cyclists.

some people have thier brains removed when conditions get worse instead of concentrating more.

saying that a pedestrain ran out in front of me today to try and cross the road, slipping in his works shoes,
there would have been no way i could have stopped in time if he had fell, but he managed to get across the compress ice quick enough with a wee hand wave of apology...
there was no one behind me so he could have waiting all of 3 seconds.
