There's a special place in hell for tipper trucks, especially two tone blue ones. Genuinely one of the few vehicles that genuinely scare me. Always tend to be far worse driven than 'proper' trucks.

The driver of the white private hire Prius who chose to overtake me on Gilmore

They need a thread of their own.I was overtaken (possibly by the the same driver) who immediately turned left, idiot. Didn't get their number as I've had a good response off of the council before.

Full size HGV stopped in South Clerk Street with the tail-lift down doing a delivery. Not in a loading bay or the green lane or anything, just stopped in the street.

    Absolutely no [Rule 2]s given.

DGAF season tonight. Cars parked on double red lines, vans astride the greenway to intimidate everyone into letting them out of side streets, and a special mention for the doughnut who thought it would be funny to lean on the horn to get past me in a 20mph zone when I was already doing over 20.

But for top irony, while crossing the tram tracks at Haymarket I nearly got squished into a railing by a wildly revving hearse, who HAD to undertake the car to my right.

I will stop cycling if NWH launch a hearse service.

Someone tailgated me all the way along Captain's Road, and started to overtake a couple of times before thinking better of it. This was despite me keeping up with the car in front of me (if anything, I was too close to the car in front myself, but didn't want to encourage the driver behind to overtake).

I think the tailback from this "caused" someone to drive through the cycle path at the Melville Drive end of MMW this morning because they were "stuck" in the right turn lane on Argyle Place.

While sitting in Hectors yesterday evening I watched a car get to the end of the "dead end" street (St Bernards Row), slowly drive across the pavement and turn right along Raeburn Place. Left me wondering why they didn't put any bollards there to stop that. Maybe so emergency vehicles can use it ?

When I was driving from Duke Street to Great Junction Street yesterday lunchtime I noticed a cyclist and driver heading the opposite way behaving almost exactly as if the cyclist had been waiting at the stop line and had been greatly inconvenienced by a driver stopping at the stop line too, with their right front wheel an inch away from the cyclist's front wheel, but I didn't see it happen so can only speculate.

That was a bit MGIF by the bike; we complain about drivists doing that, but then I cant see the road, and signals given. His response is completely OTT though; scary.

oh come on mgj I looked and moved out carefully, as no idea how long the turning car would be sitting there, blocked by on coming traffic the other driver paused before coming out so he saw me, you can see his front wheels turning. As for MGIFing I sat behind both cars and didn't filter to the ASL...as would have been perfectly legit.

Refuse squisher started moving into my (bus) lane going up Leith Walk yesterday morning, on an uprighty rentabike wearing a bright red T-shirt. I yelled and it twitched back into its own lane, after which someone in the passenger seat peered back at me. Private Hire car's driver tried to swing into my (right-hand) lane going up Leith Street this morning, eliciting another yell.

Followed a car driver up Burdiehouse this morning. I saw the white glow of his phone in his hand, and watched him texting rapidly with his thumb as he drove along. Sprinted a bit and caught him up after the coned section. He was still texting away as I stopped alongside his passenger window, pointing at him until he finally noticed me. I gestured a sort of "tut tut" and he put his phone down.

I've no idea if he picked it up staight away as I left him sitting in the traffic jam.

I had a right idiot behind me this morning going through Stockbridge. I thought a car seemed close due to the noise and was aghast when I glanced round and noticed just how close to my back wheel he was. Traffic was heavy but was still moving at 15-20 miles per hour.

When we all got stopped at the next red light I managed to filter 4 or 5 cars ahead to get our of the bam's way.

Driver who deliberately drove into me last month (details earlier in this thread) has been charged with dangerous driving. I doubt that charge will stick (it never does), so I fully expect the driver to take it to court. Fun for next year, I guess.

Driver of HGV WV68 BWB steering with his elbows, both hands off the wheel so he could text while driving along St John’s Road.

Oh, another (late) update about the HGV speeding through Holyrood Park - I got a reply from the company:

    ---
I managed to track the vehicle and found the driver. As a result to this the driver has been put on a final written warning due to the behaviour as I would not like to see anyone out of work just before Christmas.

All I can do is apologise on his behalf, as this was not acceptable and not how our company operates.

I noticed on your video you posted you quoted ‘’ maybe he was drunk ‘’ I can assure you all drivers are subject to drink and drug tests on a regular base and once he returned after his job and had the email he was subject to the test.

I am glad I received your email so I can put this matter straight so the drive does not act like this again.
    ---

I'm happy with the response, it seems to have been taken seriously, and it sounds like this probably wasn't the driver's first offence.

The King's Theatre Junction was a bit snarled up just after 4 pm today. I'd just about filtered to the front of the right turn queue on Gilmore Place as the left-turn and main green light came on for us at the same time. The driver ahead of me made the right turn before the traffic from Tarvit Street got going while I chose to hang back. The traffic queue turning left was at a standstill due to congestion on Home Street. As the traffic from Tarvit Street passed me to the right, I became aware of a car squeezing through the gap between the static left-turn traffic and my left. The driver then proceeded ahead of me into the middle of the junction, but thought better of turning right into oncoming traffic. I pulled forward and knocked on the driver's window but was ignored. The lights changed to red as the traffic cleared from Tarvit Street so I pulled ahead of the stranded car and then intentionally blocked it as pedestrians were now crossing to our right in front of the King's Theatre. As I waited, I heard a voice shouting from behind. It was the driver of the car behind the car that had undertaken me. Their car was also stranded in the junction. She was asking if I pay road tax. I shouted back to ask why she had driven through a red light. She asked her question again so I repeated mine. By this point, there were no longer any pedestrians crossing so I set off, raising a specific finger directed at those behind me. As I turned onto the relative safety of Valleyfield Street, the first of the two cars passed along Leven Street noisily behind me.

    Ugh.

    Rubbish driving? A little bit.

I was filtering extremely assertively down Morningside from Church Hill about 4pm today. It was really, really busy for some reason. I came upon a small SUV, maybe a Toyota or Hyundai, and it was the only vehicle being driven with its lights switched off – and today was the shortest day, remember, and the street lights were on. I thought I'd do the decent thing and remind the driver in case he'd forgotten.

So I stopped alongside and waited for him to notice me. He sat staring straight ahead, not even engaging with his passenger. I gently tapped the window, but he ignored me. I tapped again (wearing my winter gloves, mind) and he turned to look at me. I pointed to the front of his car and motioned flashing headlights. He looked at me, didn't bother to lower his window, and returned his gaze to dead ahead.

I gave him a few moments longer but he presumably thought I was one of those angry, mirror kicking, one-way ignoring, swearing, unlit scofflaw cyclists, thinking if he wound down his window he'd receive nothing but a tirade of colourful invective for no reason at all.

So I carried on filtering and left him sitting in the traffic jam. Funnily enough, I parked my bike by Comiston Fry and was walking back towards Morningside clock. He passed me, heading out of town, and he had turned his headlights on.

You reminded me of the removals van driver I spoke to once after they came very close to left hooking me. I went up to the window and before I'd said anything, they gave me the finger.

I politely informed them that their indicator didn't seem to be working, and they suddenly became very grateful.

I threw some choice festive greetings at MGIF white van driver. As I pedalled west over the zebra crossing on Little France Drive, they passed me extremely closely. I inwardly tutted. They then pulled in far too soon and way too close to my front wheel despite my slowing down. Then...they stopped, forcing me to stop. Oncoming traffic that was clearly visible long before they made this daft manouevre was preventing them from turning right into the hospital grounds. They refused eye contact with me, strangely. The only reason I can think of for coming out of the building site car compound into the hospital grounds was to rat run and miss one set of lights. I hope someone activated every ped crossing on their way through.

@Frenchy, Nah, they came out here.

I used to happily use the shared use path along there but the constant infringements by builder types and their vehicles (and debris) make the road a safer option. Mostly.
