@Ragingbike "police support have followed up" - Glad to hear! The usual process for me is:
    1. Report via 101
    2. Get called back 15 mins later to arrange a diary appointment to see the video and take a statement
3a. Officers look at the video and make an excuse not to go any further
3b. Or, officers take a copy of the footage and a statement, and then pass the incident to an officer local to where the incident happened, who then gets back to me a week later to say no action is being taken.

Also @Ragingbike - "I gave up filming after being arrested and charged by the police for posting a video via twitter"
What the <rule 2>? Charged with what? I presume you're not accepting the charge?

I've written the complaint letter about the incident I linked the video to on the previous page, which I'll post tomorrow (It's going to the Professional Standards Department in Glasgow). Going to keep the video up unless I hear back from them saying they've changed their mind and are charging the driver, but I'm not hopeful.

@edinburghbikecam & @cyclecommuter .... long story full of corruption and very nasty people... basically life is too short and i couldn't afford the legal fees again, the stress ....and the time spent in police custody.

i am also currently in possession of a video of a private hire coach driving into me in an active bus lane ...then the driver assaulting me pushing me into a bush ..while my bike is stuck under his coach...the police arriving and having a go at me .....nearly two years and heard nothing since...

@Ragingbike - Wow, and I thought I wasn't having much success with the police... The worst I had was being assaulted by a private hire driver and losing a tooth (molar). I got charged with a section 38 for fighting (trying to get the driver off of me while he punched me while holding a vaporizer), never heard anything about the driver being charged with anything, was never given an incident number, and was told "hmm, nothings showing up on the system" when I called 101 to enquire about it. Got a lift in a police car to my bus stop (I was walking at the time, not cycling) and was told by the officer that I was very lucky some other witnesses left, or I'd be spending the night in the cells. Even though I had two other witnesses who were friends of mine, and the other two "witnesses" came along after the incident.

At least in that case I "started it" by folding the drivers mirror in after he refused to move his car (while he was parked on the then-orcas outside Bier Hoose on Leith Walk), your incident sounds worse.

Took an extended tour of the Pentlands yesterday evening: down the A70, across to Biggar and then up the A701. On two occasions I was forced into the verge by oncoming drivers overtaking on my side of the road without a thought for my legitimate presence there. First one was man in a hatchback overtaking a line of three cars near the Hilly Cow wigwams turning, on a straight road in a totally deliberate selfish act of pushing me into the verge as he knew I had no choice if I wanted to live. The second was a woman in an MPV overtaking a tractor near Biggar who had committed herself to the manoeuvre without checking it was safe: the look of horror on her face was gratifying, and I hope it taught her a lesson.

It was daylight, I was wearing a large fluorescent yellow h*lm*t and a bright red top, and had a 90 lumen B&M dynamo light on full beam the whole time. But hey, as we know, helmets and hi-viz are the answer to all problems.

A green roofer, those are bad ones

We had one this morning which I am not sure how there wasn’t a crash, we were heading NE towards Carnwath on the road from Biggar, traffic often bad there I think as have come off the motorway but drivers not changed down to local twist roads. Anyway driver overtakes us without checking (or maybe he did check). He just missed the oncoming vehicle. But that was not the one that made me say the bad word. How the van that followed the first driver did not crash into the oncoming vehicle I dont know.

We were also through HYNDFORD Bridge this morning an hour before the head on collision between two motorbikes. Two dead. Tragic.

Two numpties unable to look and give way today. A lorry in Dochart Drive to decided to do some sort of 3 point turn using Durar Drive and ignoring that I was cycling on it at the time. The other was a taxi just down from Royal High who took a right from a side road despite me coming down the hill on the main road.

Got hit by a car on the way to pick up the kids. Was turning right and slowing down to let a car on the opposite carriageway go past. Meanwhile driver turning right out of the minor road saw the car go past and started to move out. She hit my rear wheel and he number plate detached and lodged between my wheel and mudguard, wrecking the latter. Hoping that is the extent of the damage but will check later.

Presumably since you have their number plate, claiming for a replacement mudguard won't be a problem?

From today's commute home - white van man turning right from Market Street into Jeffrey Street, who couldn't be bothered to wait for the car in front of him who was turning right, so decided to floor it, overtake them on the junction, and cross into the hatched area (with solid border, meaning "must not" enter).

Apologies for the mild rule 2 in the title.

Funny* how motorists who drive life-threateningly close to cyclists get 'advice' from police, but those who inconvenience other metal boxes get an instant Dangerous Driving charge.

    *actually very much not funny

Cycling down Craigleith Hill Avenue along the quietroute 20 yesterday, a taxi van was driving towards me on my side of the road as there were parked cars on the other side. Instead of pulling over and letting me through as it was my right of way, he just kept coming. I went up onto the pavement as I wasn't sure if he was going to stop.

On the other hand, a very nice driver stopped and let me turn right from Groathill avenue as there was an endless stream of traffic.

“POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after a teenager was hospitalised when a car driven by a pensioner mounted the kerb and struck her in a morning collision.
The 17-year-old girl remains in a serious condition after being hit by the Renault Clio while walking on the pavement on Broomhouse Road, near the roundabout junction with Broomhouse Drive on Monday morning.”

I saw the aftermath of this while driving past (well, I was a passenger). Looked like the driver was driving along Broomhouse Drive, "did something", and ended up mounting the pavement, wrecking their front left wheel off the kerb, and coming to rest against the wall on their left almost on the give way line for the roundabout.

I dread to think how the poor pedestrian is getting on, considering the state of the front left of the car. Wishing them a speedy recovery.

Yesterday morning on Portobello high street watched the driver of a Balmoral Roofing van using his phone just before almost left hooking a woman on a bike as he turned into one of the diagonal parking spaces.

Then so many drivers completely unaware of the sirens from a fire engine at the Harry Lauder junction.

Driving east through Cockenzie this afternoon: cyclist heading west approaching me who was the victim of a close pass; next driver in line was about to try the same but pulled back in after getting a hard stare from the cyclist and realising that they would have hit me if they’d continued with the overtake. Almost certain that the cyclist was @frenchy.

Bit further on past Longniddry, family with young kids on bikes. I hold a good distance back because I couldn’t overtake safely and a line of cars forms behind. Some impatient drivers start hitting their horns. When I do finally get a chance to pass safely then the cars behind immediately overtake me. Totally impatient.

Ha, yes, that would have been me. Or an unbelievable coincidence.

    Good spotting!

    Edit: and good driving, too!

    Well last friday's rubbish driving...
A post work cycle with Tom (not of this parish) through wester hailes, dumbiedykes, Bingham, the jewel, seafield, leith links, granton, muirhouse, Drylaw, pilton. Chips at javites among a crowd of 20 pleasant enough youths. No hassle from a soul in 35 miles until juniper green when we encounter a bunch of entitled rule2s in mummy's private rego car... shouting abuse and swerving at us. R31 SVP for the record.

I reckon the quickest way is to go Penicuik then moor road (ok that is not quick but i like it) La Mancha, Romano Bridge, lyne valley then Peebles, cadrona turn right before inners?

    Anyone else have a view?
