    @wishicouldgofaster: Why can't people turn left from the left lane these days?

    Sheer <rule 2> laziness. Not content with being able to travel in comfort and at speed without moving off their fat @rses, doing anything more than the bare minimum to control their vehicle - e.g actually turning the steering wheel more than about five degrees - is seen as an unwarranted effort.

    See also: why people are unable to turn in to a side road without cutting the corner egregiously. (Just the other day I got a filthy look from a drivist attempting to turn right in to the side road I wanted to turn right out of, for the sheer effrontery of positioning myself correctly for said manoeuvre, thus forcing him to exert his arm muscles a fraction more in order to tighten his turn so as to avoid straying in to the bit of the road I was occupying.)

    Saw someone cycling through the Holy Corner junction from Bruntsfield to Morningside last night, with a kid's trailer behind them.

    I'm not completely sure, but the driver behind them seemed to be laying on the horn for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The cyclist was remarkably zen about this.

    The clown that started hooting at me, as I waited for an ambulance to cross in front of me at Tollcross, with the lights on red for the ambulance.

    Blue lights flashing on ambulance but no siren, which usually means the patient is critical, or is a child likely to be scared by the noise.

    So slow hand clap to you. You miserable moron.

    Saunsbury lorry YB65 SBY driver, failing to account for the traffic islands on Milton Road West, shortly followed by a white van failing to consider that annoying obstructions might be turning right.

    Nearly knocked down this morning at Stockbridge by some idiot who thought talking to his pal in the car was more important than looking.

    Also shocking driving on the roundabout at Orchard Brae with several drivers getting fed up waiting so driving onto it despite other cars having right of way. Lots of angry tooting!

    Just watched a Vauxhall people carrier come down Viewforth (I was behind it) which rolled into the ASL on the red light - not good but not entirely shocking - *BUT* then having paused, proceeded to turn left through the red light so that they could immediately park!.....

    Very, very bad close pass by a black cab on Gilmore Place approaching the King’s Junction this morning. I shoulder checked before going round a parked car and everything seemed in order, so the really fast and close overtake (for no obvious reason and plenty of space on the road) came as a really nasty surprise. I’m not easily shaken but that was really poor.

    The recumbent rider behind who filmed the near miss used to post on here occasionally? Or the other ‘bent riders know him

    We should do bingo cards... left hook, SMIDSY quickly followed by HGV SMIDGAF all in the space of about a quarter of a mile heading North on the bridges.... apologies to pedestrians at junction of Chambers street where the HGV turned right into Chambers street across me, following the SMIDGAF massive tourist coach only just screeching to angry halt in time not to make me into jam - I imagine my demeanour and language were not the most polite...

    My apologies to the driver on the A985 (Fife) who wound down the window to scream some sort of abuse as they passed me this morning. Unfortunately I just could not make out what was shouted, I only gathered that they wanted to verbalise their feelings on what appeared to be something incredibly infuriating. Sorry chum.

    I thought the dozy BminiW driver who turned right out of Inverleith Terrace onto Inverleith Row this morning into the same space I would have been in to turn right into Inverleith Terrace had I not anticipated their doziness and braked when they started pulling out was just doing that "look straight ahead, do not acknowledge" thing when I cancelled my right turn and chased them up to the lights to shout at them, but they were apparently just in their own wee dozy world and unintentionally completely failing to register bright red T-shirts in bright sunlight unless there was an additional audible clue two feet from their dozy ear.

    Not quite clear what driver of white juke was doing. She was parked in the red asb at the Dominos. I was to the right of another cyclist. We agreed i would go first as had lecky bike.

    All fine then further down road fat white juke drives straight across me. I brake as does the fat white juke. She then indicates she is going back into the right lane??? We all struggle to fathom. I beat her to currie. She then comes into the chemists complaining of an accident on bypass

    Nothing of course compared to white van man in Bristo Sq. knocking down the ped then knocking down the cyclist who pursued him. All with wife and jack. Russell in front of van

    @miak Urgh - did you get the plate (even partially)? Any damage / injuries? Probably still worth reporting (especially if it was a hit and run), I imagine there's a few cameras around Queensferry Road and surrounding area?

    yes and complained at the outlet he'd just departed. Conversation with manager

    Me: Your rider knocked me off my bike, in front of a bus, in a bike box which he should not have been in and then told me it was my fault as I hit him....then rode off while i was on the ground

    Mgr: Oh Ill certainly have a word sorry

    Me: does he have a licence? (Mgr) All our riders have full licences
    Me: Why did he have an L plate? (Mgr) Its the law to have an L plate on a moped.
    Me: No its not. (Mgr) oh ...its compulsory under our insurance.
    Me: As its illegal to drive a car with an L plate when you have passed your test I imagine the same rule applies to motorcycles (Mgr) Our insurance insists.

    As you know I seldom report anymore ... no point

    L-plate means they only have a provisional licence for that vehicle.

    It's probably used so that riders "don't have to bother" sitting the full test for mopeds/motorbikes and can just do the compulsory bike handling test. Or so that riders with car licences can ride the mopeds without any further motorbike tests.

    I'm sure some real powered-two-wheelers on this forum can correct and enlighten...

    But yeah, someone with a full licence for a moped would have to remove the L plate to be legal.

    Sounds about right, neddie. It's probably to avoid the expense of putting riders through the practical test for mopeds.

    I may be naïvely assuming Papa John's et al don't expect their riders to pay for the test. And if they do, I expect that there is an inexhaustible supply of 16 year-old penniless student oaves queueing up to burn rubber while transporting pizzas.

    Full car driving licence (2001+) requires CBT first, and no L-plates on a 50cc moped. Pre-2001 doesn't require CBT.

    Today's rubbish driving was brought to you by the MGIF drivist of what seemed to be a large Audi painted a colour not dissimilar to vomit. They overtook me on Gilmerton Station Road and left me sufficiently little space that I was able to touch the car as it passed.

    @Arellcat - Bet they weren't sticking to the speed limit there, either?

    My own bad experience today was from the driver who undertook me as we both turned right out of Alnwickhill Road onto Howdenhall Road. They apparently got fed up of me waiting for a gap in traffic large enough to, you know, mean I didn't die when I pulled out. Incredibly selfish of me, I now realise.

    Pursued down the Mound and up Hanover street my a Midlothian Skip Hire lorry clanking its chains like a mechanical ghoul. Tailgaited round the bends and across the tramlines. Properly frightening given the slippery surface.

    Guy screaming at me at the next red lights that I had been in the middle of the road which I had.

    I suggested he descend from his cab for a chat and he got all shy so I blew him a kiss and went my way. Vehicles drive people mad. No point telling anyone, no one gives a flying fox.

    Hello,

    Just a quick note about the conduct of one of your drivers at 08h50 yesterday (Friday the 8th November) northbound on the Mound and Hanover Street in Edinburgh driving a skip lorry with a plate ending 'RVV'. I don't know what kind of company you are so I'll put the matter a couple of different ways;

    If yours is a reputable family company;

    1) His driving was wildly erratic, tailgating me down the Mound above the 20mph speed limit, and also shouting at me from the cab of the vehicle for 'being in the middle of the road'. This was driving that would have attracted the attention of the police had they been around and which probably invalidated your insurance and operator's licence. It was genuinely unsettling and made me wonder if he was on drugs. Having pursued me down the Mound he engaged in what I think was an attempt at homophobia, pointing out that my bicycle is pink, which it is to be fair.

    If yours is a rugged gangster operation;

    2) Having shouted at me from his cab I invited your driver to get out for a wee chat. I am about twenty years older than him and a pencil-necked middle class office worker but you know what? Your guy is totally chicken. Very brave at the wheel of a ten tonne lorry but totally shit himself at the prospect of a polite one-on-one chat with a twat on a pink bike. I doubt you can rely on him for much. Would not descend from the cab of the vehicle. Claimed he 'wasn't shy' but he seemed to have wet himself in terror at the prospect of a polite exchange of views.

    Thanks for reading,

    Had a very close call yesterday evening on my commute home from work. I was going around a small roundabout in Uphall, intending to take the second exit, as I passed the first exit a driver decided that he had to jump out in front of me. He missed my front wheel by inches. I decided to ride the adrenaline wave and cycled like a mad man after him. I managed to catch him at the next traffic lights.I knocked on his window, he wound it down and I explained what had happened and how he had given me a fright. I was expecting a bit of finger pointing and aggression but he simply apologised. Asked him to keep an eye out for us cyclists and parted on amicable terms. Bad driving but neither of us fell into the road rage trap. Oddly satisfying outcome!

    Was crossing western part of London Road about quarter to eight last night on way home. Reached the refuge of traffic island opposite Windsor Street, looked left for oncoming motors. A few passed, and I was just about to step out into the road when I noticed a black car travelling at speed (in a 20mph zone) from the roundabout eastwards. No lights, front or rear. I pointed towards the headlights to try and warn of this ridiculously unsafe behaviour, but driver had 1,000 mile stare. As car passed, I noticed a mobile phone clamped to driver's right ear, clearly visible through side window. I can only hope they were left handed.

    Straight wide bit of road but that takes the biscuit for illegal driving witnessed yesterday.

    Got hooted at angrily by the driver of a white van. Tried to overtake me on the Bridges and drove straight into oncoming vehicles which was somehow my fault I don't know how but there you have it.
