Quite an effort. If it was Dundee, Ch Supt Todd'd be looking for the cyclist who caused it.

In Glenrothes yesterday, the driver of a shiny black BMW (LM12 BBN) turned left from the middle lane here. Since we were in the left hand lane (but going straight on) at the time, this was utterly terrifying. Missed the front of our car by a couple of feet.

@gembo - is this the new bike paid for by the last pay out.?
Nope, thankfully - this is my 4-5 year old one, though typically it was serviced a week ago.

I was in Hart's on Saturday morning looking at replacements, so he's persuaded me to buy two. Good salesmanship, that.

Just got around to looking at the video for this one on Tuesday (When it was sub-zero and icy), which I've reported:

Ah yes the just serviced phenomenon

Sadly cannot be retrospectively attached to his bills. Though might make him feel better that you are completely out of pocket.

When the LRT bus shunted the car into my neigh bour’s wall he was lucky. It was just at the bit he was needing to repair.

    Nasty looking pass that, @ECC.

I too was refusing to cycle in those cycle lanes earlier in the week, although I was pleasantly surprised to find myself getting no grief whatsoever for doing so.

The police came and asked what I want them to do about it. I said "Well I don't think it's worth asking you to charge the driver with careless driving, if you could have a word with them and ask them to be more careful in future, it'd be appreciated."

I decided not to elaborate that I don't think it's worth asking them to charge with careless driving because they'll refuse, but I didn't need to because one of the officers said "Yeah, we'd struggle to charge the driver in this instance." Which I take to mean "We can't be bothered charging the driver."

It's genuinely difficult to imagine what else could possibly be needed in order to charge them. They're clearly only inches away from you. Don't suppose there was any elaboration?

I don't want to be victim-blamey but taking primary there is probably a good idea if you're not in the cycle lane?

    You know something?
I know these things always look less bad on camera.
But that one really does not look bad at all. It isn't great, but it doesn't look bad either.

Got angry at the driver of a red Audi A3 (who else?) and tapped his bonnet for texting while driving down the Mound. He was completely oblivious to anything around him until he heard the bang. Then made angry faces and gestures to him about "putting the phone down".

He'd already veered into the opposite lane (yes, into the right-hand filter lane in the opposite direction) on Bank St. to unsuccessfully pass 4 or 5 other cyclists.

He's a damn danger and should be locked up.

@Frenchy - "Don't suppose there was any elaboration?"
Nope. And I've given up asking anyway.
"I don't want to be victim-blamey but taking primary there is probably a good idea if you're not in the cycle lane?"
Agreed, not sure why I wasn't in primary to be honest.

@fimm - It's not the worst I've had, certainly. What's hard to see on camera is that the driver started passing about 30cm from me, but cut in and passed about 4-5cm from me. At the point the rear left corner of the car passed me, it was about 15cm from my front wheel, directly in front. If the driver had braked even slightly, I'd probably have gone straight into the back of them.

  11. In fairness to the police, it might genuinely be that, rather than struggle to charge, it'll get marked as not proceeding by the fiscal service (and that's completely out of their hands, and the fiscal service is horrifically overworked and understaffed).

Making a left from Doune Terrace into Gloucester Street in the dark and rain and felt my back wheel skite on the setts. Given the excessive steepness and possible leaf-covered nature of Gloucester Street I thought I'd better stop and assess the situation. A whole three seconds after I put my foot down the driver of the massive black range rovery tank that came round the corner and stopped behind me decided to lean on the horn to let me know I was inconveniencing their very important life.

General apologies to the folk with the toddler on the other side of the street who will have heard me bellow "IT'S. SLIPPY. HAVE SOME [RULE 2ING] PATIENCE."

I took my time lifting the bike onto the pavement.

Have seen that manoeuvre a couple of times so far this week in the same spot, 1 private hire and another non-professional driver. It's pretty scary the speed drivers need to go in order to pull it off

The worst part is that they've deliberately overtaken a driver who has correctly stopped at the red light. The sort of arrogant driving and entitlement you'd normally expect from a Range Rover or possibly a BMW/Audi driver.

Cyclist on Princes St in stationary altercation with a Stagecoach. Was blocking the bus with his bike and person and taking photos of numberplate and driver visage. More power to his Dick Turpinesque elbow but I fear he will be onto plums when his complaint hits the black hole of the SC depot.

In car briefly today. Rolled up to red light at Morningside Clock and had Black PHC SB15 JXK swerve round me in Balcarres Street lane to carry on up Comiston Road. At times a dash cam would be so useful as the footage would be going straight to the licensing people as that driver should not be on the road.

Police Scotland is appealing for information following a serious road crash on Corstorphine High Street, Edinburgh, on Tuesday, 26 November, 2019.

The incident happened around 4.55pm and involved a blue Ford Transit Tipper van and a 76-year-old male pedestrian. The man was walking his dog westbound on the nearby footpath when the van mounted the footpath, striking the pedestrian and his dog. Emergency services attended and the man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries. The dog sadly died at the scene.

Was very nearly wiped out this morning coming downhill on Dalkeith Rd at ~25 mph. Impatient driver travelling uphill and attempting to turn right across the oncoming traffic (including me in the bus lane) missed me by inches. By the look on his face and hand gestures, in his opinion it was my fault of course.

Lady in a big SUV car on the backstreets of Ravelston at school run time putting her make up on while steering round a corner at 20+ mph, passing me and my P1 son about 2' away (we were on the pavement but somehow it didn't feel safe when she was abrogating control of a big box of metal... - see also https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-50544503)
Shouted at her as she disappeared up the street but obviously made no difference in her cocoon.

Coming down the Mound last night, queue of cars waiting for someone to turn right. I see a car's wheels start motioning left, in towards the cycle lane I'm coming down in. I start slowing down, they stop moving, presumably having seen me, I continue forwards, one second later they pull out without indicating cutting off Mrs toomanybikes who's following me down the cycle lane. Queue some angry hand gestures by me at the red light at the bottom of the hill to the driver and passenger trying to explain that mirrors and indicators are useful tools.

Take home: 1) people suck at driving 2) the initial unprotected downhill design for M2GS cycle lanes would have been really rubbish.

Cycling home last night, up the Cannongate towards the junction with Jeffrey Street. I was in primary - right in the middle of the lane - because of a queue of traffic up ahead, and I was going straight ahead at the lights.

A driver pulled out from New Street, and followed me up the road for a bit, before deciding to try and overtake about 20m from the queue of stationary cars at the red light.

Because we were so close to the queue, all they succeeded in doing was driving alongside me, in the middle of the road, and started veering left into me. I banged the bonnet and said "Do you want to <rule 2> off?". Driver pulled back in behind me, and I stopped at the lights.

Just as I stopped, my bike lurched forwards and I looked behind to see that the driver had driven into my rear wheel. I shouted "You've just driven into the back of me!?", and the driver got out and shouted "You didn't even look when you pulled out, you just went straight into the side of my car!".
We exchanged pleasantries (ahem) and then he turned left towards the pleasance at the lights.

I probably should have demanded that he pull over and give me his details, but I decided to just get out of there instead. Reported it to the police and I'm going to try and persuade them to charge the driver with assault rather than a driving offence (wish me luck).

Annoyingly, my regular bike is still being fixed after my collision a fortnight ago, and my spare has nowhere to mount my rear camera - so I only have the lurch forwards on my camera and not the collision.

I am so fed up of drivers in Edinburgh bullying me out of the way. I'm amazed I've not got into a fight with a driver yet...

I was being a bit of an <rule 2> but I was going down a back street (rat run) which was wide and open, at 20mph+ on my bike. Lady in an SUV behind was clearly keen to overtake (breaking the speed limit) so I kept wide in my lane to make it clear to her that she was going to have to do a dangerous manoeuvre to overtake me (it was approaching a blind bend). She did, gesturing me rudely to get left. I wish I'd caught her at the junction in time to explain why she was breaking the law overtaking me there, but she just got away.

I was overtaken by a large white van on in on Strathearn Road this morning. It did a rather MGIFish move to get past in the gap between me and a parked bin lorry on the other side of the road, and in the process came a bit close for my liking.

This event was in all respects unremarkable for the driver of a large white van, and wasn't particularly dreadful. Except. Except. The van had the Bike Station logo prominently on the side...

Had a sympathetic officer looking at the footage from yesterday, who said pretty much exactly what I expected:

    1. They can't do anything about the collision (rear-ending) because it's not on camera, so it's my word against the driver's.
    2. The officer said that I shouldn't be in primary position coming up to the lights (See pic on Twitter here for my road positioning), even though I'm going straight on, because it winds up drivers. The officer said that I should keep left, and move into primary when the light turns green, which I disagree with. I forgot to say that that's not what cycle training says, which is basically "take primary when you don't want to be overtaken".
    3. Police will locate and speak with the driver, but warned me that I may be receiving a warning myself for swearing at the driver. If they do that, I'm happy to go to court to contest it if need be - in my opinion, swearing is a perfectly justifiable response to having someone driving 2 inches from me, pushing me to the side, and then driving into the back of me.

Will hear back in a day or so what's happening, but the most the driver will get is a telling off, assuming they don't have anything previous.
