Police are still hunting for two men they believe were in the car at the time of the accident.

Jeso, the language in that article is shocking, even by usual "sentient motor car" press standards:

a woman cheated death just before Christmas at the same accident hotspot... Edinburgh woman Katie Bond, 23, had been on the way to Perth on the morning of December 23 when her car flipped after sliding out of control.

Cheated death? Was she even inside the car at the time?

One of the officers sustained neurological injuries and was in intensive case

And yet no calls of, "why weren't they wearing a helmet?"

Victim was not a cyclist, but this is what court leniency on driver crimes can lead to:

“Agca, a labourer, had 13 previous convictions for 28 offences, with several relating to cases of road rage that involved him tailgating and attacking other vehicles.”

So the judge stated: "You drove at him, in effect using your car as a weapon, causing him to suffer the injuries that led to his death, all in the sight of his family." And this is only manslaughter? What part of killing someone by deliberately driving a motor vehicle at them makes it not murder?

I was close passed by an SUV yesterday near the RBG. but he was actually observing the speed limit, so was that a draw?

Traffic on Drum St was queued back to Ferniehill Road as I was filtering towards Gilmerton crossroads. The driver on my right stopped just before the junction with Ferniehill Road, so that they wouldn't block the junction. The driver waiting to turn out of Ferniehill Road took this as meaning it is safe for them to pull out, despite me not stopping to let them out. Luckily I was anticipating that, and also had enough room to stop.

@frenchy that happened to me tonight but i think the car that drove in to me was flashed to do so by a car i was filtering which could not turn right because of oncoming traffic.

Driver sort of acknowledged their bad. The one that pulled out I mean. Neither of them saw me.

My bad to undertake but never had this happen before though drivers do let other drivers out and even sometimes cyclists

    View from the other side.

I don't think I could manage that if I was trying.

Driver almost pulled out in front of me this morning, despite not only my presence, but also traffic coming the other way.

They were on the phone at the time, though, so I'll forgive them for not being able to properly pay attention...

An electric van making a sort of scraping noise which was either the new pedestrian warning noise EVs are getting or a very unhappy wheel bearing.

Quite handy, as the driver was talking on his phone while approaching Chambers Street zebra crossing.

Van drivist obviously not paying attention, turned across the road in front of me but slammed the anchors on and stopped directly in my path once they spotted me. Slammed my anchors on too and was surprised as they held down the horn for several seconds as if it was my fault. Don't think so sunshine. Made me wish i had a horn on my bike, we could have had one of those horn-offs that drivists do where they both sit still in the wrong place and blare the horn at one another for an extended period of time while holding up everyone else.

Driver of No.25 bus, east Princes Street, 5pm, pouring rain. I'm traversing the empty road to get to bus stop opposite Waverly steps (on foot). He pulls out from next stop along, drives at me then beeps horn at me. Sod off mate, I'm crossing the road! Don't drive at me you numpty. Or words to that effect.

Driver of the black 4x4 of some sort last night who decided he couldn't possibly wait 5 seconds for me on Seafield Street, so overtook me as I entered the roundabout, then left-hooked me, missing my front wheel by around 20cm and causing me to utter a sweary exclamation.

Just as well I wasn't going the wrong way on the roundabout to get to the shared use path, as I see many cyclists doing.

    Video tonight, probably.

Both Hearts and Edinburgh Rugby had home games yesterday afternoon, so there was some snarl on Russell Road and Murieston Crescent. As I filtered along Murieston Crescent, the car in front of me started to veer slightly, but surely, left.

    Yep, driver texting.

I take my kids and usually a couple of others on bikes up to the weekend EYM music school and park our bikes here:

    https://goo.gl/maps/v5jMasE3Qrzsxspc9

the other day, as usual, the entrance for the bikes was blocked by a car. Often there are cars waiting there. I pointed out the markings - it is incredibly dangerous and nerve-wracking to take a group of inexperienced cyclists *behind* a car and squeeze into a gap when potentially it might reverse, but often there is an urgency to get off the road as there's all sorts of manoeuvres going on.

The man told me to calm down and he was just dropping off and waiting for his child. Ironically I was quite calm before he said that. Being in charge of other peoples' kids meant I didn't say much in response, but my two are used to my usual righteous outbursts I am ashamed to admit.

@algo: "The man told me ... he was just dropping off and waiting for his child."

I love* the way the magic word "just" is apparently supposed to absolve the person uttering it from any culpability or responsibility for illegal, obstructve or inconsiderate behaviour.

    * For avoidance of doubt: I don't love it at all.

@ejstubbs - thanks - yep. If I were to get on my high horse about it (never) and had the opportunity to speak to him about it calmly, I would try to make him understand that (I feel very strongly) we all have a communal responsibility for our welfare (in this case specifically all our kids not just his own),... but alas I think that would fall on deaf ears.

Two drivers in the traffic queue when the Hearts match came out texting. One was so unaware that I was there that she drove off, came to a stop and was still texting when I caught up with her again. I pointed out the error of her ways at that point.

    Two candidates this morning.

The taxi driver who was caught behind cars turning right onto the Cowgate as the lights changed to red. Wasn't enough room for them to travel straight on. Did the taxi driver abide by the rules of the road? Not a chance. Ploughed through the red light and the junction after the right turners had cleared. Very narrowly avoided a collision.

The bus driver who travelled almost the length of Old Dalkeith Road whilst half in half out of the bike lane. Even while stopped waiting in the queue at the temporary traffic lights. They caught up with me at the Craigmillar Castle Road turning and by caught up with me I mean drove 7-8 feet behind me at 20+ mph.

Too many to count in the rush hour traffic heading into Preston City Centre where the university is in the process of expanding, causing traffic chaos during construction.

Something I particularly hate, but am experiencing more these days is as follows. When turning righ, I tend to move to the RHS of the lane I am in, indicating. If I can't turn straightway, I wait next to the central white line. However, often I get cars zooming past on the left at high speed. This isn't of concern if the road is wide. But it isn't always. Sometimes I have to maintain balance before putting my foot down as I am aware that some impatient driver is zooming up, ready to run over my foot, perhaps unaware that I will lean to the left. Perhaps I need to change the foot I put down, but I am not so dextrous.

@amir - I've taken to remaining in primary for such right turns, particularly where I've been scared by being undertaken at speed. Such locations are usually where a driver turning right fills the lane in any case, eliminating any qualms I might have had about "holding up traffic".
