Umm are you OK yourself? Coherent typing suggests you are, but....

    And Cycle Law now, yes.

Geeeeargh. Poor van moof, very glad you aren't flattened.

(This whole leap to "oh maybe I didn't see you because you aren't wearing head to toe hi-viz?!? (so it's not MY fault I can't pilot a tank-sized car safely)" is a pernicious and infuriating thing.)

Have reached out to cycle law as well.

I went home to change bike and got toddler cuddles which helped a lot. Although Toddler did say "have you forgotten your laptop" when she saw me back which is the #1 reason I return after leaving for work!

Ah yes, the defence of unreasonable blackness. Like the crane technique for dopey voituristas.

I am petrified now as I am away out to Queen Street and will need to put my rain coat on. It is balck so I will become invisible.

Shorts should be worn at all times unless practically inappropriate. Bad weather is never a reason not to wear shorts.

"I'm not sure if I didn't see you because you are wearing so many dark clothes". I had a black jacket on, shorts, a buff and a flat cap as I'm on my upright dutch bike. I pointed out to her that if she hadn't cut the corner we'd not be in the situation, however interesting how quickly her mind jumped to "I can't see you in black" despite the fact I must have been a huge black lump, in broad daylight, with a light on....

Sounds a lot like my last collision - driver apologised profusely, and then when he realised he'd be paying for it said "I mean you're wearing black, I couldn't see you". I was wearing a dark grey jumper and black jeans - but had a hi-viz waistcoat on top, as well as a front light which is brighter than car headlights...

Fingers crossed you get everything sorted stress-free!

Interestingly police scotland chastised me (lightly) for not reporting at the time. Suggested that if there is an impact it should absolutely be reported on the spot ASAP.

    Cycle law scotland very helpful.

All cars should be painted orange. Or possibly yellow and pink, battenberg stylee. It would probably reduce car journeys by about 25% at a stroke...

    PS Glad you're ok....!

Small hatchback containing three burly gentlemen being driven down the footpath in front of the cricket pavillion on Leith Links at lunchtime. On the muddy grass to get round the chicane. Order is breaking down today. Checked the fridge for Zuul when I got in.

@ARobComp "I'm not sure if I didn't see you because you are wearing so many dark clothes".

That's the old justifying to family and fellow drivers approach. Anytime cycling comes up in a pub or radio phone ins then the 'what I can't stand are cyclists without fluorescent jackets etc" comment appears.
Cue nodding heads and agreement that if you hit one it can't be your fault.

Glad you only had damage to bike and nothing worse, due to paying attention.

There was a freshly crashed car at Bonnington (high point between Newbridge and Wilkieston) on the other side of the road (with emergency lights on). The road was frosted and very slippy. As I was cycling past an oncoming car driver decided to take a chance and squeeze in between us. He accelerated and did a sharp overtaking turn and it looked like he lost traction but managed to stop. He gave me an apologetic wave. Hopefully drove more carefully after that.

Dear Transit Van Driver on Newtoft St,

My "[rule 2] problem" was that you were driving directly at me on the wrong side of the road. In the circumstances I think I would have been quite justified in doing a lot more than slightly raise an eyebrow.

    Hope that clears things up,

A way too close overtake by a cement truck as I waited in the junction to turn right from N Bridge up High St earlier. Bad enough to make me swear loudly. Didn't see company but appears to be in need of an MOT... Since January 2019! White Renault truck NX65 BNU - now reporting to police. (HMM. Police saying doesn't need an MOT as it's a new vehicle - but it was first registered in Feb 2016 so surely should have one by now?)

Driver of the number 52 Borders bus who tried to overtake me and then pull in at a stop, all within the confines of the yellow bus stop box. His justification could have been that I was travelling quite slowly uphill so couldn't wait the extra ~5 seconds.

@Frenchy I experienced a similar incident on Gilmore Place this morning when a rule 2 driver decided to pull out from near the back of a very long queue of vehicles to overtake on the wrong side of the road as they headed for King's Theatre Junction where they would be turning right. I was cycling towards them but unfortunately had no vehicles for backup, which would have made this manoeuvre impossible. I raised my arm in protest, in response to which the driver took both hands off the wheel to give me repeated double vees as they passed me, in response to which I changed my raised arm to a just a raised finger. I rather wish that I had video evidence of this or at least the registration number.

Only the three incidents this morning :)

Close passed by my own uncle (who is a bona fide [rule2]).

Forced to the side of the road by a van driver changing into my lane.

Forced to brake sharp to avoid a collision by a t*xi driver running through a red light coming out of the Royal. Was red for him for a good 3 or 4 seconds. He held his hand up in acknowledgement as well and mouthed 'sorry'. But ploughed on through regardless.

In the car this morning and almost hit twice.

    1) Jeep coming out Craigs Road just about went into me as I was travelling South on the Drumbrae as some kind driver going North flashed him to come out.

    2) Waiting to turn right into Gylemuir Road and some idiot in a van driving North on the wrong side of the road almost hits me head on. Thankfully he regained his sight at the last moment and swerved back just before impact.

I had my lights on too but perhaps need high viz for the car as well!

RED driving instructor early afternoon today heading uphill south on Ravelston Dykes Road. I am standing on the pavement ...yes on the pavement ...ready to cross into costorphine hill and he careers round the corner... starts shouting obscenities ...banging his horn and gesticulating at me ..then swerves into oncoming traffic ... I am on the pavement. I think he had a younger person in the passenger seat. If this is the standard of 'professional' instruction... help us all.

@miak RED school guy should be reported. Twitter account should get a reaction as no other way to make people aware of what is in effect bad commercial driving. I've also seen other driving schools jumping red lights and doing some dodgy driving.
When solo, some instructors may think they are on emergency mission to get to next appointment. When with pupil they should be on best behaviour.
