    Driver overtook me on Captain's Road as we approached the traffic lights at Lasswade Road. Lights had changed just before they started to overtake, and we were ~50m from the junction, so it should have been a completely useless manoeuvre.

    However, in order to prevent it being useless, they drove all the way into the ASL. I was in a thrawn mood, so I filtered past and went in front of them anyway. When the lights went green, they accelerated past, narrowly missing both me and the car which was just pulling out of a layby on the other side of the road. Driver, of course, gave me a dirty look as they went past.

    Total time saved: Maybe 5s.
    People endangered: 4.

    Also someone turning right onto Gorgie Road blasting their horn at some people who were crossing the road when there was a red man.

    What small amount of sympathy I might have had for the driver was completely negated by the fact that they hadn't given way to me while I was turning left onto Gorgie Road at the same junction.

    Driver of an Edinburgh City Council van who close passed me on St Leonard's Street. And by close I mean on a nice wide street he came close. I caught up with him at the pedestrian crossing lights for a word and he refused to wind down the window but pointed to the bike lane.

    So it was a punishment pass then.

    He mouthed [rule2] off then drove off on his merry way or so he thought until I caught up with him again at the lights beside the Scottish Widows building and had another conversation with his passenger side window.

    I don't need to use the bike lane because it doesn't go to my work which is where I need to go. That's why I'm using the road, is that ok?

    [Rule2] off. Go away etc.

    Look, I'm just trying to get to work in one piece and home safely to my kids tonight. Why don't you just give people more space?

    At this point he stopped looking at me or engaging, although he did look a bit uncomfortable when I suggested reporting him to the council.

    Anyway the lights changed and he sped off until I caught up with him again at the next lights outside the Commonwealth pool. I was thoroughly enjoying myself by this point and had another go at him but by this point he was trying his best not to look at me so I banged on his window a couple of times then cycled off.

    It was his attitude that got to me. Worst I've seen.

    Why don't you report him to the council? If you have the registration number of the vehicle and the date, time and place of the incident they should know who was driving. They even have a web page you can use to submit it as a complaint. They might at least "have a word" (in fact you can even suggest that they do just that, since the web page does say: "If you're making a complaint, please tell us what you'd like us to do next to address it.")

    @ejstubbs

    I've been considering buying a camera because every time something like this happens I forget the registration number...

    @cocoshepherd - the bike lane beside Police Scotland that as you say is routed for going around on NCN1?
    Assume you were heading south beside it? This sort of 'non-vigilante' driver will have his own alternative Highway Code as you say. "Council spends money on paths that aren't used etc"
    Interestingly its twin at Buccleuch St does have an on road cycle way painted beside the segregated path. This allowing cyclist to move south rather than via Meadows.
    Newer paths need to consider cyclists using routes other than those pre ordained. Eg Kings Theatre Junction is one which will still have cyclists even after canal Meadows link.
    Sorry to hear about incident spoiling day.

    @CocoShepherd

    I had a guy half-out the van window screaming at me once. I told the police because I was pretty certain the puce-skulled driver was on the sweeties and they figured out whose van it was (the Council's) and they told them about it all.

    So yeah, if it was liveried you tell them.

    Since you know time & location & approximate kind of van report it anyway. You could also describe driver. If nothing else they might issues an "all staff reminder" about driving standards...

    A father and his young daughter almost taken out crossing at the green man in Stockbridge this morning due to a driver jumping a very red light at Leslie Place. Unfortunately I didn't get the reg and don't have a camera.

    IWRATS If its liveried maybe publish the video and wait for the google reviews to come in.

    check out J B Electrical & Mechanical Services Ltd on google reviews to see what a youtube video of one of their teams' road rage did to them.

    @LaidBack

    Correct - I wasn't using the segregated NCN1 path as I was heading south, not following NCN1.

    @IWRATS @unhurt @ejstubbs

    I've reported it using the Council complaints webform that @ejstubbs provided. Considering reporting it in vain to the coppers too.

    I'd leave the cops out of it. No corroboration no action and you've got the guy's employer.

    Citylink bus driver was far too close when they pulled up beside me on Frederick Street. They were going at less than 5mph, but their wing mirror was still literally within elbow range, so I politely suggested that the driver should leave more space. He started pointing at the kerb (I was positioned towards the right hand side of the left hand lane, to be fair, but there was absolutely no need to pull up alongside me.)

    Considered folding the wing mirror in, but wasn't sure that bus mirrors actually do that.

    I've twice "had words" with drivers with phones in their hands recently. Both times they tried to claim it was OK because they were stationary in a traffic queue:
    1) it isn't
    2) both of them had their phones in their hands when they came past me on the way to the queue...

    Had to take evasive action to avoid falling victim to James Pugh & Son on Liberton Road. Massive HGV changing lanes into my path.

    I looked up at the cab to remonstrate but he might as well have been driving a small house from a sofa in a room on the second floor. No way he could see anything within 3m of the cab.

    At the Captain's Road/Lasswade Road crossroads this morning, an oncoming driver almost took me out. They seemed to think that because the lights had changed to amber, it was safe to turn right, despite me still being in the middle of the junction. Thankfully they stopped when I shouted at them.

    Completely blank facial expression as I went past. Not even a raised eyebrow.

    Cut up by a taxi on Leith Walk. Was in contemplative mood so totally wrong-footed the driver with my amiable chat.

    As a result my cycling bingo card is now full, as I got my first ever 'I'm a cyclist too'.

    A lot of distracted driving today. Scared people and worried people and people zooming on emptier streets.

    Also the buses sitting with hazards on having got ahead of their timetables.

    Yeah, imagine how much more efficiently & how much shorter journey times, the buses *could* run if it weren’t for...

    And the speeding around on empty streets was entirely predictable. There was already a crash this morning, announced with glee on the radio. Like we need the hospitals filled up with motor violence victims at this time...

    Cracking incident going up Dundas St, a close pass and i didnt say anything ...overtook the car and then driver gave me a punishment pass hitting me with a wing mirror and driving into the ASL, I overtook him again and moved into ASLto his left ...he then started revving his engine and gesticulating at me...seems like other drivers and pedestrians had seen what he had done ...and when i suggested he get out the car... so that i could cough on him .. this elicited shouts of encouragement from passers by and other drivers.... all who seemed to have taken my side ... he then literally burned some rubber but couldn't turn right into Gt King St so i passed him on the inside ...then as cars passed me they were rolling down their windows and saying 'well done'. One pedestrian actually pointed and laughed at him. Amazing and a first.

    Forgot to post as work has been absolutely hellish this week, but a really bad incident on Thursday home time. I filtered up to the ASL in Tarvit St, behind a cyclist and in front of a car. The cyclist in front was considerably faster than me so was pulling away, I took a slightly too wide trajectory doing the squiggle into Gilmore Place and suffered a very bad revvy close pass from the car. I remember thinking ‘oh that driver is bad news’, which was immediately confirmed as he started signalling to the left, overtook the cyclist and immediately left-hooked him. I wasn’t sure if there actually was a collision, but if there wasn’t it was very close. There was angry shouting, the driver bounced out of the car and ran after the cyclist, waving his fists and shouting some more. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear much as I was too far and then the cyclist sped away so I couldn’t catch up with them to offer my details. (Ping me if this is you!)

    Now it is true that the sun was low and straight into everyone’s eyes, but that’s a reason to drive carefully, not to just speed around like a maniac.

    I was doing my new 5-6 mile fake commute this morning, and in Loanhead encountered the driver of an enormous Toyota SuperThunderPatrolMeister machine. I saw them approach the stop line of their side street, and almost but not quite assumed they were going to stop. Spidey senses were sharp.

    They didn't stop, and they motored out to turn right while I was only a few metres away. I swerved to my left to go around the back of them, and neatly avoided being squashed to massive tyre deth.

    I seemed to be the only person on Queen Street going anywhere near 20 today. Had a Lothian Buses van floor it past me at 30+, why speed in a company van?!

    Got overtaken by a bloated* Fiat 500 driver chatting into handsfree on the sharp bend on Horse Wynd.

    Idiots now think they can overtake on blind bends as there's "nothing coming"

    Here: https://goo.gl/maps/5wHownktx6xZsH3r7

    *The Fiat was bloated, not the driver

    I'd echo @neddie's thoughts that they should go to prison but they're in an electric vehicle. Clearly need let off with it since they're saving the world.

    Bit of a strange one on Spottiswoode Rd. Not sure it even qualifies as rubbish driving:
