Everyone's a bit mad at the moment. Mad people should not drive cars.

    Yes bonkers out there

In good news Youngest back out on her bike with pals. She did not like cycling up Cockburnhill Rd but it was so much fun coming down from Thriepmuir. Is her report.

i was thinking earlier today that i've had more close passes and head-on oncoming overtakes in the past three days than the rest of the year put together

@Frenchy @iwrats @gembo I have high tolerance of powered vehicle infringements but agree that there is a 'reclaim the streets' vibe with many drivers.

Today one incident made me phone 101 to report (waste of time - just rings out).

So I vented my anger on Twitter (waste of time 2). Answering PS close pass tweet.

"Black 4x4 T28 FFR at 3pm Dalry Road nr Haymkt. Masked driver too close to me and inches away from young woman waiting to cross. In traffic Q I suggested her driving was not good - you're not obliged to run pedestrians over just because you think they are in the way."

Incident so bad that the woman narrowly missed shouted after her. Blatantly overtaking me unnecessarily and callously driving inches from someone that was on the otherwise quiet road.
Think the decision was to squeeze past me on cargo bike (at 15mph) and at same time 'teach the pedestrian a lesson'.

But... I have to accept that I tackled here as she had wedged her car at an angle trying to filter and had window half down - plus was driving solo in a car with a distinctive number plate.
I didn't swear but just informed her that her inability to share road space was dangerous and I would report her.
She was maybe late 20s and had impression that she wasn't used to getting feedback.
If it had been a guy... (yes... bad LB picking on a wee lassie out in her dad's 4x4!).

The BMW is pointed into town. The road was closed in that direction for resurfacing.

Still helmets, hi-vis road tax ya weirdo.

Looks to me like the BMW is pointed out of town, no?

Not that it changes your point much, of course.

You're quite right. Thought it was the next crossing looking back.

One eyewitness told the Edinburgh Evening News: "Someone tried to undertake a cyclist on Minto street and hit the traffic lights, they were doing like 80mph or so on a 20.

“Both stumbled out the car, very lucky they didn’t hit anyone or any cars.”

Oh, yes, coming back from the vigil yesterday, I was coming down Ashley Terrace towards Slateford Road. There was a woman with two children on bikes on the road and another on a scooter on the pavement, so progress was a bit slow.

I hung well back and wide, and saw the Slateford Road traffic lights go red, so I knew there was no rush. The driver of the van behind me then decided to try and overtake me. Like I was going to let him past to threaten the woman and children. What exactly were they going to gain by the maneuver? So gave them the palm back "stay where you are" gesture, which, to be fair they did without further hassle.

The woman and children went onto the pavement at Slateford Road and I don't know where they went after that.

I have witnessed this just a bit further up the hill. Posted it here I think - sports car with defective suspension.

(It's actually a 30 zone so what is the problem?)

It’s a straight, wide road. Inviting speed.

It probably has a “design speed” of around 50mph

Wonder if there’s room for segregated cycle lanes...

Shame CEC thinks it’s an arterial road so ‘too difficult’.

Another incident on Corstorphine High Street tonight, at the spot where a man walking on the pavement was hit and his dog killed.

overtaken last night on Mayfield Rd by 4x4w$%#mobile coming back into town.

I was in the car, speed-limiter set to 23, so probably doing ~21. Much horn-blasting, revving and light flashing. Caught him at the next lights at Esslemont 200m away, then every other set all the way in. Pointless.

The driver of car in front of me heading up Comiston Road at the Greenbank Church lights. Having overtaken me just before the lights, they stopped for the red light then carefully and deliberately moved to their left to block the approach to the ASZ and stop me filtering in front of them again.

Coming up MMW two cars flew past on Teviot Place going the wrong way.

Had a grumble to myself and cycled round to Potterrow where predictably there were several destroyed cones and one car was in the side of a building.

No mention of this incident on the BBC website. A car at 50mph has the same kinetic energy as 250 bullets from an assault rifle.

Imagine if a squad of soldiers emptied their guns into a city centre building and it wasn't even cause for comment.

I am told the Gaelic for Cocaine is Urchaidh

    What do I know?

When I worked for the Addiction Research Group University of Strathclyde (Go ARGUS) almost 30 years ago now I was the last one in the office one Friday afternoon (everyone else down The Press Bar). The phone wrang and the Sunday Post were after a quote - so I appear on front page on the Sunday - Drugs Researcher Gembo says Why would anyone take a horse tranqullliser to go dancing? Still cant figure why Ketamine crossed over from the vet’s/battlefield. Maybe gives you a power nap? With vivid hallucinations and then you can go home refreshed or take some more Eccies and return to The Boogie.??????

You are the expert @gembo but I understand that many recreational drugs arise through warfare? Fighter pilots perma-pissed in WWI. All infantry and aircrew out of their nuts on speed in WWII. Steroids used to bulk up concentration camp survivors. Heroin as battlefield anaesthetic. LSD as mind-control weapon in Cold War.

    Ketamine also?

Ketamine was used as tranquilizer in the Falklands

Will have been developed by the Nazis or in the Marvel Universe Toby Jones’ villain( wiki ref in a minute Dr Arnie Zola of HYDRA)

Interestingly MDMA was probably developed by Alexander Shulgin author of PIHKAL (phenyl ethylamines I have known and loved) in California where it was used in couple therapy as removes the Male Gaze (not according to my barber)

But Nazis probably had something similar.

I call him Arnie but Arnim. Was his name

Police were on scene very quickly. Made sure to mention their driving on Teviot Place since I figured they wouldn't be too quick to admit that had they been racing.
