    Drivers in droves. Yesterday's news.

Dukes Pass had to be closed by police as roads became saturated - despite warning.

Nearer to home, Blackness boxed in as drivers turned access roads into car parks.
Any cyclists out would not enjoy these fume fests.

Same at Tinto hill - car park rammed, cars parked all the way down the road past the tearoom then on for a mile into Thankerton. Saturday and Sunday

Seems like drivers were following the 5 mile radius until this weekend????

I was at Grey Mare's Tail on Saturday: chaos there with lines of parked cars on both sides of the road. Police motorbikes put in an appearance briefly. Same story at the Glen Cafe at the head of St Mary's Loch, but also loads of tents cheek by jowl on the loch shore. There was a parked police car there: I think they were talking to the campers...

Some pretty impatient reactions from the majority of road users however

FFS, a friend in East Lothian had a call from the police last night telling her that her cycling husband was off to hospital with head injuries because a random driver had taken offence to him and done an emergency stop on front of him so he went through his rear window. Luckily there were witnesses to challenge him when he denied it. Even more luckily they were a doctor and nurse.

Cyclist is off to surgery this morning for plastics to sort his face out. Luckily his brain and neck were ok. Mental health might not be of course.

Horrifying - hope he recovers well, obviously. Police taking it seriously too, I hope.

@frenchy I know the police are involved. I've advised my friend to call Cycle Law Scotland.

Good call. I hope your pal is OK in the end and there's some semblance of justice.

That sort of behaviour must be pursued in law. So glad there were witnesses. This sort of action is directly linked to the sort of rubbish the conservative councillors are peddling and they need to realize this.

I hope your friend makes a good recovery

handy to have this thread as a confessional. Driving back earlier through Leith I was waiting in the junction to turn right from Great Junction Street to Bonnington Road - as the lights went to red and the oncoming traffic cleared I completed the turn, but by the time the traffic had passed the pedestrian phase was on green. I'm very sorry for the folk waiting there. I hardly ever drive but this happens regularly when I'm a pedestrian. Why there isn't a delay to wait for the cars turning right from the junction I don't know. Next time I am in that situation I'll just wait in the junction itself and deal with the potential annoyance of other drivers.

Man in car turning right from Cadzow Place onto Abbey Lane did something similar, but hesitated after passing through his stop line (on red) and was then stranded when traffic emerging from Abbey Lane started moving. Didn't see if he carried on when the vehicles stopped, which would have been ped green.

Elsewhere this morning, the usual rushing idiots annoyed that they had to go slower than 30mph crossing to Abbeyhill from Easter Road overtaking salt the crest of the junction, when they couldn't see round the corner to the right and couldn't see over the top of the junction. Rushing idiot heading north on the Pleasance sounded like they were contemplating going the wrong way round the traffic islands to overtake. Rushing idiot on Marionville Road apparently forgot about the speed bumps and had to back down on their rash acceleration after not bring allowed past me through the pinch points.

Thank you father gembo. @wingpig I didn't cross the line on red, but did probably move off on red after the oncoming traffic.... Either way I accept culpability but also find the rushed nature of the pedestrian lights dangerous in general.

Stood at this junction with @steveo for a while and watched people drive their cars at and through groups of pedestrians. In the last case it was a young lady on her own who also shouted obscenities at them.

I showed @steveo my axe, he showed me his electric bicycle.

    @IWRATS

Whitehouse Loan is terrible rat-run, that needs shut down, a la Blackford Safe Routes proposals. It’s really badly flared as well, making crossing difficult

@algo: I didn't cross the line on red, but did probably move off on red after the oncoming traffic

If you are past the stop line when the lights turn red (as can happen e.g. in queuing traffic or, as in your case, when waiting to turn right) then you are free to proceed so long as you do so in a safe manner and with due courtesy and respect for other road users. So long as you didn't intimidate, endanger or inconvenience the pedestrians you did nothing wrong.

I have occasionally encountered the form of rubbish driving where someone is in the middle of a junction - i.e. past their stop line - when the light turns red, and they sit there blocking crossing traffic while waiting for the repeater light on the far side of the junction to turn green, despite the fact that the queuing traffic that had originally held them up has long since moved on.

Absolute chancer on the Seafield Moor Road about half an hour ago, so almost totally dark, and yet another incident of rubbish driving on the approach to the blind left-hand corner where the double white lines are.

I saw the driver coming up behind from some way off, but also saw the headlight beam of a car approaching from around the corner, so I took primary since I was already in the DWL section. Approaching car came round the bend and headed away behind, while Mr Impatient came up behind me. I pulled into primary+ position, but seeing no more beams he overtook anyway, and was fully into the opposite lane as we took the bend.

Had a cyclist been coming the other way, perhaps with less efficient headlights, this driver would have killed them.

@algo, when I learnt to drive, towards the end of last millennium, people stopped when the light changed to amber (as per the rules). That meant people waiting to turn right had a chance to do so before any other phase started. Now we are in the age of the OLAM and the first car often doesn't even stop on red there is no time.
Sadly the light or timing wont be adjusted to reflect illegal activity and the police don't want to enforce such rules.

Yesterday: I'm driving along Slateford Road at the speed limit and a driver uses the bus lane to pass me on my left in order to get to the red light before me.

This may not be rubbish driving so possibly not fair to post here and hope nobody hurt, but I'd wager on a wet morning on the setts there they are covered in diesel - we all know what that's like - I was turning very sheepishly this morning and avoiding anything metal...
