Well, it's finally happened. This area has literally been an accident waiting to happen for a couple of years now - a free for all of rat-running through traffic (generally taxis & delivery vans), outsized construction vehicles and vehicles ignoring the one-way signs. Zero enforcement from police and traffic wardens. "Pedestrian ZONE" - don't make me laugh

Almost rear ended driving yesterday due to stopping on amber as the way ahead on the roundabout (near Perth) was blocked. The cheeky sod in the van behind had the cheek to blast on his horn while I just simply pointed to the traffic light. 1) amber means stop 2) shouldn't be so close to me 3) If I had kept going I would then have had to hammer on my brakes as the bus had not moved

Multiple counts of terrible driving arriving back into Edinburgh on Saturday. Car late pulling off the M9 to the m8(straight across white hatchings at speed) had been driving erratically for a while so I was holding back thankfully.

Second was a car that changed lane abruptly from A720 lane to the calder road lane on exit from the large roundabout at Hermiston Gait. Thankfully there was nothing inside of us and I'd just checked that mirror as I was able to swing to the side to avoid them rather than be boshed, which would have been quite distressing.

Have the dash cam that I need to extract footage from later.

Thanks to the driver of HGV with number plate DA16 UZH. By fiddling with their phone they missed the green light at the Captain's Road/Lasswade Road crossroads. That alerted me to the fact that they're a crap driver whom it would have been unsafe to filter past.

Heading West on the cargo bike at a fair (e-assisted) speed on Cluny Gardens this morning, with Micro-G in the co-pilot's seat. I moved out to pass a single parked car. The driver in the car behind us chose to overtake at this point, despite there also being a single parked car on the other side of the road. This was therefore not a point where there was room for the overtaking car to give us a minimum 1.5m of space, particularly as I wasn't being shy about taking up my lane.

Hot headed young man at the wheel? Nope: looked like a family on board. Man driving, woman in the passenger seat and two kids in the back. Really striking that he was a family man who didn't think twice about putting my child in danger.

Of course we caught them up at the Morningside lights, 30 seconds later. Notably this same driver then went through the traffic lights at said junction when they were truly, firmly and definitely red.

Spoiler Alert: Juries will refuse to convict, judges will find any excuse going.

A fellow parent, with their kids in the car, attempting to bully me and my kids out of the way with a massive SUV thing then overtaking us on the wrong side of the road at a junction looking at with pure anger just to save 10 seconds.... I despair

Dropping Toddler to Nursery this morning
    - As we were getting the bike ready a lawn care van drove past at at least 30mph down our 20mph street, with his nose firmly buried in an order form/work plan clearly to figure out the address. Going to pop out now to see if they're still working nearby and have a chat.

    - Stopped to wait for a gap to turn right across traffic and a council school bus that collects Kids with additional support needs came past so close and fast that I ducked and did a half swear. Toddler is on a front saddle that goes between my legs and my feet on the floor but I had a good wobble nonetheless. Bus had to stop about 30m further on for the lights. Forgot to take the numberplate stupidly as I was focused on getting us off the main road and up to nursery. Contacted council and they've let the schools transport team know, however apparently 5 buses in our area so they need a numberplate. Will head out tomorrow morning for a ride and see if I can identify it. Fairly sure the bus waits at the top of my street about 8:20 and it's a very new, branded bus. So hopefully should spot it.
Such a pointless bit of careless driving that would be enough to put anyone off riding.

Most other parents drop kids off in cars (and most will be very local).

Probably unfair to put here as not clear this was due to bad driving, but in the absence of a "today's rubbish root vegetables" thread:

Route shut after major potato spillage
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-54177862
"The A1 in East Lothian was partially closed after a tractor carrying thousands of potatoes overturned.
The route was shut southbound at the Thistly Cross Roundabout near Dunbar while the vegetables were cleared from the road.
Traffic Scotland said it took almost two hours to clear the potatoes from the route, which was reopened at 09.40 on Wednesday.
There were no reports of any injuries as a result of the incident.
The spillage forced the road to be closed after Haddington and traffic was diverted via the A199.
Traffic Scotland raised the alarm at about 07.45.
A recovery operation was launched by the Trunk Road Incident Support Service in a bid to reopen the route, according to Traffic Scotland."

    That's because it wasn't a Smash (TM).

Nice fast emergency response from the sounds of it, though. Peelers were there in minutes.

First time cycling into town for a while today.

Close passed at this traffic island, then again by the same driver after the lights at Marshall St.

Roadworks signs in the cycle lane on Gilmerton Road meant I was extra justified in taking the lane at this traffic island. So the driver in the red Fiesta chose to go the wrong side of the traffic island to overtake, at some speed.

To be fair to both drivers, they'd've had to wait a whole three seconds to overtake safely. Time they definitely wouldn't have spent sitting at the next traffic lights anyway...

I've had a lady overtake me through the wrong side of this crossing.

Some folk in a red hot hurry.

Last night, at the temporary traffic lights for the gas works on St John’s Road. Two cars at the front revving their engines. Lights go green and both rocket off at high speed. Must have hit around 50mph past the zoo. Could still hear them gunning along the Corstorphine Road racing section at Balgreen.

Numpty in one of those ‘almost minibus sized’ people carriers who decided to overtake a cyclist coming up the granites on a blind bend. We were coming round the bend the other way at 40mph on the tandem. Wasn’t a lot of room to squeeze through.

Nearly (not that nearly, but I was disappointed in myself) clipped a cyclist on Grange Road at the helm of my automobile. Failure to fully perform rear observation on my part.

The reason was that I was upset about something else altogether and that affected my concentration. I know that's a lapse in my road craft.

Père Gembeau may wish to give me a penance.

@gembo You could command him to buy a cycle computer then go to Turnhouse Road to calibrate it...
