@wingpig he does want to go so maybe yes.

Mrs Garto had a young guy completely cut her up on his bicycle on Sunday. At craiglockhart hill. He mistimed his squeeze through the two rows of cars parked at the lights just as they change he then sailed right and down towards the Codfather/Dominos

On same trip a cyclist put life and limb at risk by trying to get right round the Calder road roundabout. Quite shaky and then at the exit Cultins Road was shut so there was another big wobble. We followed diversion Mrs Garto is very good with cyclists, ‘tis one I felt was quite lucky, Once we got round the houses I took some pleasure in pointing out to Mrs Garto that whilst we were stuck at the Makro/Booker lights the cyclist had found a way through Bankhead estate and was back in front of us again

    https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/crime/edinburgh-police-arrest-three-men-after-high-speed-chase-through-city-2991932

One eye-witness said: “I saw them tearing down London Road, driving like muppets on the wrong side of the road.

“Glad they got caught! Hope nobody was hurt!”

Police Scotland confirmed that all three of the vans occupants, three men aged 20, 20 and 19, were taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary, and later arrested.

The condition of the trio is not yet known, though it is understood that they did not receive serious injuries in the crash.

Also perhaps one for the sentient beings thread:

"The high-speed pursuit started at around 1:30pm when a van failed to stop on Holyrood Road when told to by officers."

Cycling north on Old Dalkeith Road, towing a trailer and using the protected cycle lane, I had to stop due to a stray wand in the cycle lane. Normally if I did this, I'd shift my bike onto the pavement whilst replacing the wand, but this was trickier with a trailer. Whilst I did this, two cyclists came up behind me, moved out of the cycle lane to get past me and then re-entered the lane. Apologies and thanks were exchanged.

Anyway...the passenger in one of the cars, whose journey can only have been delayed by a couple of seconds at most, shouted something about [rule 2]ing [rule 2]s not using the cycle lane as they passed me. I later saw one of the cyclists who had overtaken me engaging in conversation with the driver at the Cameron Toll traffic lights, so I assume it wasn't just the passenger who was being rubbish.

@Frenchy - So presumably the driver doesn't move out for vehicles on the road that are broken down or otherwise stopped for whatever reason then?

They must lose a lot of time waiting.... or have big repair bills smashing into stationary objects due to sheer stubborness! :-)

How are people with that level of mentality allowed to have a license?

The roadworks at the King's Theatre junction make it a bit of a nightmare getting to the canal at the moment: you need to either turn right to get to Lochrin Place, which is actually easier than usual in the absence of the left turn filter out of Gilmore Place, but still quite worrying with a 7yo; or go straight on and literally run the gauntlet as any cars can't overtake you until you're past the queue, leading to Driver Frustration™. So a special round of applause for the driver of the Abbots Travel coach who jumped the red going from Leven Street northbound despite there being very clearly no space at all to get past the box, and blocking the entire junction. Since I didn't fancy sitting there for another round of the lights I tried to go round the vehicle but had to bail onto the pavement as a blues-and-twos poileas vehicle made itself known on the southbound carriageway. All these maneuvres are not great with an occupied bike on the Follow-Me.

Note also the comment that it's the car park's fault for not having car-proof barriers <rolleyes>

Remind me again - Do we or do we not have to share the road with people who are capable of doing such things?

Bit of an odd one: Burnshot Road by Craigiehall. Bloke in a Mercedes carries out a perfect overtake, nice, slow and wide. There are cars coming the other way, but they are some way off. Overtake is complete, he moves back in slightly, but is still 2 or 3 feet over the white line, but then doesn't go any further. He must be 30-40 yards ahead of me and he is still on the wrong side of the road. Car coming the other way has to lock his brakes to avoid a collision & only then does he move back. I can only think that he was looking at me in his mirror the whole time & not watching where he was going.
    Weird.

Yup. Brain told him he had moved back enough and he only had eyes for you.

its my favourite road, west to east, three times daily, but danger is never far away, sadly

Chipwrapper headline: 10 beautiful but lesser-known villages within easy driving distance from Edinburgh

I'm sure road fulls of day trippers will add to their beauty.

Parking at Thriepmuir totally full by 11.30am yesterday. Verge parking kick8ng off. The facebook page Balerno Moans has even given up moan8ng about this. They tried to moan about cycle lanes but we rallied against that moan.

Sadly the people who were in the car crash on the slip road onto the great western road have died. Bad one.

@acsimpson: I thought at first that article might be a subtle way to persuade people not to stray out of the Lothian NHS Board area, but I see that three of the villages are in Fife so that rather blows that theory apart.

I will admit that yesterday was our first ever visit to Gore Glen. The two car parks were busy but not overflowing. Looks like there is a good deal more to explore down that way in the Arniston estate, which can be accessed from the glen.

The other weekend I noticed a lot of verge parking going on at Penicuik House as I passed by. A few months ago when we set out to go for a walk there we found the same, so diverted to Roslin Glen where the car park was almost completely empty. Odd.

@gembo: I'd rather formed the impression that the powers that be had pretty much given up trying to control verge parking at Threipmuir a some months ago, instead just putting up signs asking people not to obstruct the road, or field access. A bit disappointing that such wilful and selfish 'civil disobedience' should end up winning the day...

@ejstubbs, there are double yellow lines on the corners at Thriepmuir car park and wardens do go up but I would say the verge Parkers have won. Harlaw is different the farmer AB, has always been on the case and the spaces on the verge which is allowed, have been reduced to provide passing places.

Big smash on Ashley Terrace this morning, at least 3 cars involved including parked ones, many many airbags inflated, police/ambulance/paramedic car in attendance

From one of the Craiglockhart school WhatsApp groups:

"Person overtook bus , realised car coming and crashed into parked cars, sidelining one, straight into one which then shunted the rest"

Seems unfair to the partially sighted to single them out when any other idiot can get a driving licence!

Forget eyesight, there appears to be a widespread malady that prevents drivists moving their right foot from the accelerator to the brake.

Meant to say I passed the aftermath of this, happened right outside and at what will be Craiglockhart PS drop off time next week, one of the parked cars struck was pushed right over the adjacent pavement, not an exaggeration to say it could have been another tragedy as occurred in Morningside. There is also a rumour the driver legged it, as seems de rigueur these days

Not inconceivable. JC going to his allotment in East Finchley maybe would go up through Kentish Town.
