Driver turning off Gilmerton Dykes Street was gracious enough to wait till I'd finished crossing the side street before doing so. Unfortunately meant she almost left-hooked a cyclist she was in the process of overtaking at the time.

Hopefully the cyclist understood that I was swearing at the driver, rather than them...

The Scottish Government agency’s latest advertising campaign is aimed at urging male drivers aged between 20 and 29 to slow down on country roads and be better prepared for unexpected hazards such as bikes and deer.

Driver of a minibus heading from Liberton Brae to Liberton Road today. They missed the traffic lights changing to red so badly that they passed safely behind me as I went from Mayfield Road towards Kirk Brae. The driver following me made their displeasure known, and I hope the pedestrians crossing Liberton Road at the time did so too.

This twitter reply is ridiculous. Are these really good reasons for bad driving!?

New car, sun in their eyes, in a hurry give them a break would you?

Motorists will find any excuse for each other's behaviour.

They'll probably try to infiltrate the shady cycling lobby via their public website.

Someone reversed a van into my bike at very low speed. They were behind a bus which had stopped at a bus stop, and when they saw the bus driver get off for a cigarette, realised the bus wasn't simply dropping off passengers. So they reversed in order to go around the bus, but without checking their mirrors. They stopped after some shouting from me and honking from the driver behind me. Contact definitely made, but no damage done.

Driver apologetic and got an earful from a passing pedestrian too, which was appreciated. The driver behind me reckoned I'd stopped too close to the van for them to be able to see me in their wing mirrors (no rearview mirror). I don't think that was the case, but couldn't guarantee it - I will be more careful in future anyway.

Approach Polwarth roundabout. Full daylight (brightest day in some time). No other vehicles in sight. I move into roundabout, past first exit, signal, move towards second exit. Notice white van approaching on second exit/entrance. Notice it accelerating towards same exit.

Scream. Slam on brakes. Van slams on brakes. "Sorry mate, i didna see ya". "How could you not see me?" Apologetic shrug. "I did look". "Please look more carefully next time, my kids want to see me tonight".

A driver overtaking a cyclist heading up Kirk Brae this morning was nice enough to leave them 1.5m gap. Unfortunately this meant they were considerably less than 1.5m away from me cycling down Kirk Brae.

Then on my way home, an almost identical manoeuvre in almost exactly the same place from a driver coming down Kirk Brae.

When POLIS ALBA go all in with the blues and twos and bang past you doing the ton, do they have carte blanche, or are they obliged to log that event internally with a reason given?

Police were called just after midday to reports of a collision involving a black Audi and a pedestrian on Chorley New Road, between Bolton School and the town centre.

The grandmother, aged 58, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

Police said the car failed to stop following the collision.

    https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/education/car-crashes-gas-store-edinburgh-school-after-parent-leaves-handbrake-3039540

At drop-off this morning, a car smashed into a concrete structure at the entrance to the school car park on Baberton Mains Wynd, used in connection with the building’s gas supply.

It is understood the car belonged to a parent and that its handbrake had been left off.

Concerned onlookers told the Evening News that it is a well-known school policy that parents are not allowed to use the carpark for drop-off or collection purposes unless there are pre-arranged agreements, usually for children with disabilities.

The crash resulted in an emergency response, involving the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland, an Incident Response Unit from the Scottish Ambulance Service as well as Scottish Gas engineers.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh City Council said: “We are aware of an incident in the school car park this morning and are liaising with the emergency services who are on site dealing with the incident.”

Wow. You could not enter that car park by chance. Steep hill to drive up and the route in goes through a cul de sac then swings round and up the hill to the car park. Separate route for pedestrians and bikes.

Used to have a barrier? Or I maybe confuse that with a similar barrier I had to go under a few times in old school in wester hailes.....

@gembo, looking at streetview there seems to be a gate then a car park then a barrier. The pics in the chipwrapper suggests the car was in the car park but outside the barrier.

@acsimpson, that makes some sense, the handbrake would maybe have to work to stop it rolling down the hill

I was halfway across a side street this morning, when a van driver turning started turning into it. They did the "What are you doing?" shrug at me, and slowed down - but they did not stop, and passed me close enough that I thumped on the side of the van. Wish I hadn't, as the dog got a fright.

So just in case the driver of the van with number plate CP19 KVH is reading this, then please:

    1. Start using your indicators. But do also bear in mind that they do not give you priority over pedestrians.
    2. Reread the highway code. Particularly this bit of rule 170: "watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way"
    3. Stop driving at people.

A female in a very large Range Rover, doing complex manoeuvre on an urban road in Musselburgh with a great big mug in her hand.

One motorist fails to anticipate our simultaneous arrival at a traffic island when trying to overtake and has to jam anchors on.

Another motorist can't be bothered with the above and just goes the other side of the island, in a 20 zone.
