Two for the price of one:
Dashcam: Caister driver captures own crash after 130mph dash
Amazon lorry driver ‘tried to ram motorist’
It's not clear whether the lorry driver was prosecuted - but if not, why not?

And a slightly more unusual one:
Plane makes emergency landing on US highway

The single-propeller plane appeared to have suffered an engine failure,

An engine failure, it only has one so surely its just engine failure.

Bet that was a shock to the driver who was rear ended, serves him right for not speeding.

Loonies out in force today. Had some eejit in ugly suv thing creeping on a red as my 5 year old rode across in front of his car at the Rankeillor to Gifford Park crossing. I made a reasonable amount of involuntary exhalation noises in response but that's why you take your ugly suv out of gear at pedestrian crossings. I don't trust you, your clutch control or frankly your clutch.

Waiting at the lights to cross St. Leonard's another onanist mounted the pavement and drove at us because he couldn't wait for the car in front to turn right. I remonstrated and he rejoined the main carriageway just I'm time to drench us going through the adjacent puddle.

None of this prevented the excitement and occasionally painful joy of going out in proper no nonsense rain/hail.

    @algo

    Three things:

    1) Your pavement mounter did that in front of a cop shop? Almost like they had some kind of impunity.
    2) Onanism is much misunderstood. Onan refused to impregnate his brother's widow. He was up for the jiggery-pokery but then shot his muck on the rug and יהוה did something hideous to him by way of retribution.
    3) The algolettes will have a precious memory from that rain-cycling that they will return to for warmth long after we are all gone.

Yesterday: impatient person couldn't wait behind me and another cyclist while we all proceeded up Bridge Road in Balerno to the lights, so drove past us at speed on the wrong side of the pedestrian island.

Walking kids to school this morning, son presses button at pedestrian crossing and we wait for the green man amongst other young kids. Green man appears and just as everyone crosses the boundary between pavement and road a drivist shoots through the red light only to join a queue of cars waiting at another red light literally no more than 50 yards further along.

There was a contraflow on Gilmerton Road last night, controlled by two guys on radios. They were resurfacing the stretch up to Liberton High.

As the cars came towards town the drivers were blowing their horns, making 'wanker' gestures and shouting abuse at the workmen.

As ever, none of them would dream of doing that were they not at the controls of an automobile.

Further out that road beyond Gilmerton Cove and the Mechanic Arms there is a temporary traffic light system that when they turn red you can just drive though (car after car, err and indeed cycle through) as it takes ages to change at the other end. Jeezo.

    Fixed that for you.

Saw on Twitter his mother say he had concussion, bruising and road rash, and that the driver pulled out of the junction without looking.

Glad the lad is doing ok. Scary stuff.

Found myself getting rather irate at pavement parkers today. 3 on double yellows opposite TEsco extra on Colinton road - just lazy. Two more pavement parks on a junction blocking the drop curb for my daughter's balance bike. There were spaces all over the place on the road about 5m away.

That happened to me a few years ago at the end of Ravelston Dykes Road, except the driver had cut the corner so much the impact point was on the passenger side of the bonnet (& I had deliberately stopped a few feet in from the corner just in case)

Was boxed in by a driver today going up the Innerleithen side of the granites on my recumbent. Was going a decent speed, he started to overtake and then matched my speed so he could gawp sideways at me. Road was too thin and with nowhere to go I was forced into a deep pothole. Wasn’t pleased.

@nobrakes - that's bad. Did you get hus numebr, vehicle type?
Pothole damage - on two wheels today?

I've had that a couple of times usually two young males in small car with passenger using mobile phone to take image. Not an issue on a wider road leaving space. Route up to Granites though will have road edge with bites out of it.
    Hope you're ok!

Didn’t get a number as I was trying not to crash :) No damage, suspension and Marathon Racers are a nice plush combo. There’s big sections of that climb where about 2 feet of the left hand side is just falling apart and unrideable. Don’t mind people staring, you get used to that as I’m sure you know but a bit of consideration is always appreciated.

On the bypass this morning, I was tailgated by someone driving a tanker. Right up close, less than a car's length between us (and narrowing) before they changed lanes. No idea what I could have done about it - utterly terrifying.

Then, I was beeped at on Straiton roundabout as I moved into the left hand lane here. The lane markings aren't particularly clear, and I was wondering whether I had actually done something wrong. Then the beeper overtook me once we were on the bypass, and I realised they were texting with both hands off the wheel, so I reckon they just weren't paying attention in the first place.

Oh yes. Last week sometime. I was following a couple of girls on scooters through the junction of Balgreen Road and Gorgie Road, heading for Saughton Park. In that direction you cross 3 separate bits of road with separate pedestrian lights.

I started jogging after the girls (I was walking and they were going faster than me) because I could see all the little green men were out. After we'd crossed the third road (Gorgie Road to Balgreen Road turning, in front of the park gates) a car was driven across the crossing, having turned right from Gorgie Road into Balgreen Road.

I shouted at the driver because that wasn't just some kind of bad amber gamble, the man had been green for ages and ages. I have no idea where the car had been or how the driver managed it.

I remember when I was young and thought I was infallible and invincible. I guess that's multiplied tenfold if you're an elite athlete.

Can't now see any reason to permit vehicles capable of more than 80mph on the road, that being the French motorway limit and frankly quite fast enough.

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again...

50 horsepower should be enough for anyone

(a 50hp power limit should encourage lighter and smaller cars as well)

I’m getting flashbacks to the 64bhp Fabia I had as my first car. The wee 3-cylinder engine was actually quite nippy at town speeds but ran out of puff after about 50mph. Not sure I could go back to that if I’m honest.
